      @jayevans8918 I agree. The Wyeths are a talented family, but N.C.'s work deserves more praise. From what I understand, Bank of America still owns the paintings, but they are kept in storage. If anything good ever happened in the USA, America ESTABLISHED THE ULTIMATE ILLUSTRATION! Screw the separation of illustration from "art" painting. Any decent painter is decent at recreating Jackson Pollock...or Rothko... and lets try Wyeth...or Rockwell.... The tragic neglect of the illustration is based on its commercial reproducibility, with which it visibly distances itself from the ORIGINAL WORK = and the reproduction does not have the same value as the original. Even a good reproduction of the Mona Lisa is only a mental stimulus that may lead you to go to the Louvre to see the ORIGINAL, and the illustration is definitely intended as complete information... and only a few of us really know how ARTISTICALLY the original works.

    I’ve known about NC Wyeth for a long time. My parents had the Treasure Island book for us to read. I’ve always been a fan of his art and purchased The Giant picture for my granddaughter when she was born. I’ve also been a fan of Howard Pyle and purchased The Magician and the Maid of Beauty for my husband as well as Evening at Keurners by Andrew Wyeth. However I didn’t know as much about his life except that he felt undervalued by his designation as an illustrator I’m glad that he supported his children to succeed despite his perceived shortcomings.

    The narrator needs to learn to read, unless it’s ai, then it needs to improve its model. I’ve never eaten egg tempura, but I’ve painted with egg tempera. I live in Wyeth territory and have loved seeing N.C.'s and Andrew's original paintings - Pyle's too - marveling at the colors and selection of just the right moments to depict. It is so sad to me that N.C. couldn't get to the place he wanted in fine art. He had amazing skill and I wonder if that caused critics to not see the value of his fine art, whereas Andrew did not have the illustrator baggage to live down.

    • @brucetidwell7715
      @brucetidwell7715 18 дней назад

      From the examples in this presentation, his "paintings" were just not as good as his "illustrations." My intuitive thought is that he held himself back. As the narrator says repeatedly, his paintings are flat and don't have narrative. I wonder if he held himself back because he was afraid that adding action and narrative was slipping back into mere "illustration," and not "real painting."
