cheap crawler goes for a crawl - hanging with the guys - leave the fpv running
Big thanks to the guys for inviting me over to crawl their course 👍 I brought out the fpv cart for shits and giggles and they thought it was pretty cool. First run with the heavy weight tire wheel combo and it's gripping really well. Stoked to do more with this rc.
Quick rundown here on what the cheap crawler is:
Austar 313 scx10ii clone with Injora 35t "tuned machine" 540 (a.co/d/ilULSSj)
Servo on axle mount (a.co/d/hKW7laV)
Proline G8 super swampers
Injora wheels with brass rings (front only)
Amazon dual stage foam (outers are foam front, hairbun rear)
Scx10ii front axle shaft with universals (a.co/d/fqfw0GY)
Custom axle adapter. See link, order two/three per axle cart.sendcutsend.com/s2wkgfg9...

Well it had to happen. After perhaps the longest decision making process of my life I have landed on Arrma Mojave 6s. I resited as long as I could, why? Maybe I just wasn't ready before. This rc makes my brain explode. So good and so damn fast. The fpv install was easy. everything into the rollcage and somehow the gimbal doesn't shake like crazy. fpv gear is running off its own 3s battery so I ...

This is direct from the airunit sd card to youtube. Loving the audio, drive train sounds so good. Lots of small vibrations but I'm sure those are from the mounting, there's no extra bracing to the chassis, I just stuffed everything into the roll cage on the body and clipped it on 😳. Re-built, over-built!! Quick test run was looking really good on this machine. I added a plastic brace between the two side plates to fight off some of the side to side shake I was having. Also swapped in a larger roll motor on a super beefy 5cm wide 3mm thick mount, this also holds the storm32 board keeping the wire runs super short. Tire rebuild with new foams and balancing also helps. New bo...

Bending Aluminum! RC fabrication for functional stuff👍
When u cut ur windows out for fpv, do you reinforce the body at all? Any tips for cutting a clean opening? I need to cut my slash 4x4 body and am worried i will trash it
@@funeralatpizzahutgood q! I get a stepped drill bit for the corners so I get a big radius there. Any sharp corners will crack open really fast. Usually I build a hoop type roll bar that the fpv gear attaches too. I try and get this close to the roof of the body to support it. I have dont the shoe goo and dry wall tape before. It can help but I dont do it much anymore
this is insanely smooth
the buggy body and those wheels and tires make it looks so good. I have been working on an fpv setup for my slash. your gimbal setup is next level though.
I heard you said you don't need shock oil at the beginning of the video, not sure if you were being sarcastic or not but either way the tuning tricks ive found to help me is soft springs, normally softer in the rear if you don't go with the same spring rate. Roughly 60wt to 100w oil in the front shocks to keep the travel slow, it depends how many holes are in your shock piston. And in the rear you want the shock to fully extend with the tires staying on the ground when going down hill, if they extend while the truck is picking up the tire already in the rear only then the oil is to thick. You will be surprised how much springs and oil make a difference in how the truck performs, even if you are at a beginner stage in crawling it helps alot. Keep on tiny truckin🤙
@@connorclark8541 I was being a smart ass for sure haha. I think my spring rates are ok, big problem is the shocks won't keep oil in. So I need to get something that functions properly then I can get to work tuning the oil. Will give your advice a shot for sure. I guess in crawlers shock oil is all about how fast the rc transfers weight?
@JIPPERR_1 it's more of how slow it can transfer weight but still maintain control. If you slow it to much the tire picks up or doesn't drop quick enough
Fun fact the "P" and "R" in the in-car view are the pitch and roll angles 👍
It’s awesome seeing how you hang out with your friends in your neck of the woods. That’s a pretty cool rig.
Thanks Erica! It's been easy to meet people into crawling, it's fun for sure but I can't do with out my fast rc's
Epic runs! Did you GPS your speed? Looked like you hit some pretty high velocity.
@@rcautoball I have a pretty good idea of average speed from the lap distance and time but no idea what the max speed would be. Just under 30kph average. Probably around 50kph max? I did get to full throttle a few times
@JIPPERR_1 That's what's up! I felt like you got over the 30mph mark (about 50kph) a few times. But it also felt faster, which I'm sure is due to the scale of the rig. I'm gonna GPS mine next time I go to the track and see what I can hit on the straight.
@@rcautoball the narrow track makes it feel fast for sure. About 3 or 4 ft wide 👍This rc should top out around 65-70kph when it's got proper traction.
Dope ish..
Are these the aliexpress tires?
@@chrisginoc that's correct. Perfect fit 👌
@@JIPPERR_1Do you only run it on 6s or do you ever run it on 4s? I’m trying to decide between a Mojave, Fireteam or Kraton.

@@ChaddRainsFPV thanks my dude 🙏
Yasss!! Bro I need this!
It's getting easier all the time. The caddx/xf/heq gimbals look to be very good and will save a ton of work. This build was different for me as I usually build off the chassis. This one has the fpv stuff tucked into the body roll cage, it's not perfect but definitly very good. The install was as easy as it gets, also maintenance cleaning etc is straight forward with the fpv out of the way.
@JIPPERR_1 have you ever looked into using a steering wheel and screen over the goggles and control??
More details on this fpv setup in my previous vid 'Lets build a fpv gimbal part 4' link below. Cheers! ruclips.net/video/k0lZWsQP6e0/видео.htmlsi=HNIjf589uhX61yS3

ah dude, i just bought the FX gimbal... great work though mate, I'll probably end up getting one down the line anyway👍 just smashed the front wheel off my Mojave 4s this morning, wouldnt have happened if i was driving it FPV!! And why couldn't you, Chad Rains and i live on the same street? Damn it, it's impossible to find mates into FPV rc😫😆
@@boccatxrx5023 the fx gimbal is going to be the way to go, I'll be getting some myself 👍 just waiting for the dust to settle a bit and I'll get a 2 or three axis. In a way this is what I've been waiting for. What I'd like to see are more of the control boards and motors available so I can work them into the custom builds.
10/10 info here brother 🤙
@@ChaddRainsFPV 🙏
Key thing here is we now have a way to share parts via send cut send 👍 And you have an excuse to go buy a Mojave 6s.
Hi Jipperr is the o3 latency tolerable for high speed racing with your Mojave 6s?
@@twistedyogi hey this isn't the 03, we're using an original dji airunit with the caddx camera on this rc. All the stabilization you see is via a two axis gimbal I've built. That being said I feel the latency is tolerable on this equipment, I do notice it at times especially if I run analog for a while then switch back to this machine. I've been told that dji is still best for range and penetration. Hard to know without back to back testing, wish I had my goggles recording here cause it got quite mushy at the far ends of the course.
Great video mate, whats the size of the car?
@@MUSICPLAN777 this is a 10th scale so about 325mm from axle to axle
@@JIPPERR_1 thanks mate, you from US?

Very nice long range trip. Thumb up.
Thats a sick little trail there, may have found something cool close to home myself. looks like such a nice day for a drive ;)
@@mackmcd8725 the Google maps hunt is lots of fun. In my area open street maps also shows a lot if walking paths so I look at both quite a bit 👍
You could use a flight controller from a drone as your esc then it would put gps data on screen. Also a beep to find if lost. So many ways to spend money
check out Qlite osd 👍
@@chriscord6524 I see what you mean, I was more interested in what it feel like for someone having the rc go past at the typical speeds I was driving. It's pretty not scary as long as you see it coming along. Average speed is like 25 to 30kph. So about like a bicycle
@@JIPPERR_1 I use mine as more of exploration and perimeter security
@@JIPPERR_1 don’t get me wrong. I really like all your work. I’m just a data geek and like all those numbers crowded up on screen. But I’ve also lost more than 5 drones learning
@@chriscord6524 I'm with you 100% love having the gps and other data on screen 👍

Awesome!! I've been trying to plan a trip to the beach to drive my fpv car for a few weeks now, can't seem to get it done. Maybe this weekend :D
I know of 2 ways to get an osd in your goggles the analog is easy
Comment
On this trucks inside view, are you in goggles 100%? Or just when it’s far away?
100% of the time 👍
looks like so much fun, and a nice view too! great place to shoot. footage looking good and stable too.
Cool footage and spot. Your build looks pretty dialed in. I recently scored one of these trucks cheap and was thinking about setting it up FPV. I have an 03 air unit/googles2 laying around that I think will work well. I am debating which gimble to use. When driving in fpv do you find yourself wishing you could look around? I am debating if I want to use a stationary stabilized gimble or a powered one with head tracking.
@@cornfieldcrawlers9907 I have used head tracking before and it can be nice but for fast rc's i want reliability over all other things. The gimbal adds a lot of moving parts already. Save head tracking for a drifter or explorer type build imo 👍
Dude I don’t know why the algorithm hates you. So I’m going on a like and share mission on all your stuff. This is what they will be doing in 10 years
@@chriscord6524 thank you brother! It may he because I use copyrighted music. Not sure if that impacts things. Hope we can be doing this more in like 1 year 👍🍻🔥
Very exciting footage! Do you do the driving and filming? Or is there a separate videographer?
@@motionsic thanks much! Always nice to hear that. This is just me myself and I filmingthis and all my videos really👍 Once or twice I've had someone else record some footage for me. Lots of very talented rc youtubers out there, great inspiration for sure.
This is amazing!! Is it feasible to race four of these on a circuit? Would there be any signal interference, and what challenges could arise? Imagine going head-to-head with four of your friends on a rallycross track-now that would be next-level excitement! I'd love to hear your insights, master.
@@twistedyogi you absolutely could race these. Managing a few different fpv channels is not big deal, they do this at drone races already
nice lap! this rig is beast!
@@andykopylov thanks! One of my favorite builds so far for sure👍
This gimbal handles so freaking good dude 🤙
Yell yeah, remember that jump fondly!
Killer stuff as usual dude! There is a fair bit of moisture and fog on the lense... Did you conformal coat the vtx for a bit of an ip rating or just risk it for the biscuit?
Ya lots of dew on the ground! I use one of three different methods of waterproofing depending on the thing that needs it. Either conformal, or 'liquid electrical tape' or 'fluid film'. I think this vtx got the 'fluid film' treatment. I use it on more complex electronics but its my least favorite as it stays wet forever. Way better than damaged electrics. This is the original dji vtx so it's all enclosed in an aluminum case too.
@@JIPPERR_1 Yeah, I figured you would have some waterproofing methods... I remember how wet the coast and the island are. If you only went out when it was dry, wouldn't get out much, haha.
For everyone playing at home: in the opening sequence the fpv clips and handheld video are the same passes. The fpv view tends to be a bit understated. 👍 Cheers and thanks for checking this out 🍻❤️👊
Badass dude! Have you tried the new dji gimbal?
Not yet! Have seen some really good footage off the caddx gm2 and 3. Did dji make a stand alone gimbal too? I hadn't heard of this if they did. Just a matter of time 👍
Hey this is really cool idea. Do you think its possible to setup a small race track with a few of these and race them ? What issues do you see in doing that?
@@twistedyogi no issues! It's really fun 👍different fpv systems can interfere with each other but generally possible to have 4 or more cars running at the same time.
Cool build weird front tyre choice Nice breakbeat Is it hard to drift with fpv couse no feel of forces. Check steering feedback someone made it
@@Johnny6ex re the front tire, that's just cause we were running pavement earlier, they definitly pushed a bit or dirt. Great tire for pavement though 👍
@JIPPERR_1 maybi if rear i like to hava front tyres grippier than rear good for drifting cornering
Epic image stability! You sure put it through the wringer👍. The car chase is intense. FPV racing should be a thing🤩
