I have that Champion splitter in a 27 ton. Its a work horse for me.
Excellent same here! No complaints really! Check out my champion splitter review video!

For sure!
Split some birch.

Nothing burns sweeter than a nice piece of ash.
@@SnuffyDirt agreed!
I have had the larger size 34 ton I think it is for a few years now. The Champion engine does seem to want to run. It starts every year without much fuss. I just wish it had a controllable throttle - I hate going from zero to full when it’s cold and there are lots of times I’d like it to just idle while I’m grabbing a big log or moving some of the split that fell around me. The original pump suction line failed in me, it got very hard and the combination of the hose clamp, the internal spring to prevent collapse under suction and the vibrations went through it very fast once it started - once it sucks in air it will turn the oil to foam exceptionally fast. I’ve used mine in both horizontal and vertical orientation. Split 36” diameter rounds of 18” red oak with no more effort than you see in this video. However the supplied pin to lock it is not strong enough, at least on the 34 ton, and will bend - replace that too. I keep a jig of old engine oil and put a little bit on the beam under the wedge where it slides - if i remember to get it coated before shutting down the steel won’t rust in you after the paint comes off. The 34 ton weighs in around 560 lbs, so you might want to invest in some sort of “trailer dolly” for moving it around unless you have a ball hitch or some such. I had to tow mine about 20 miles to get it home - go slow and it rides well enough. However if you have to raise and lower the hitch much, the bar with the pins is annoying…when you get the dolly to move it around, get a bolt in crank leg - I don’t know about the balance on the smaller splitter, but it’s a little hitch heavy for holding it up and fussing with the pin holes - certainly doable but that upgrade is on my list next. Last item, the ram cylinder does get hot, uncomfortably so to the bare hand while working (nice through gloves on a cold day though) So wound I recommend? For the price, yes. Basic solid machine - wish it had a throttle though. I get tired before it does every time.
Sorry, I guess this comment should have gone on your previous vid where you give the review, your channel just came up in my feed with this vid, I guess I have some binging to do !!
Great review! Thank you for taking the time to write such a good write up! Awesome thoughts! I like the idea of keeping the bottom lubricated with old oil. I will need to try that!
I just picked up the same splitter a few weeks ago and I agree with everything you said. The table on the engine side should stick out more and also go over the engine to help protect it. There should also be a shield to put over the hydraulic filter, those two changes would be a great addition. For my personal use I think the cycle time is perfect, it's fast enough that I'm not waiting around and slow enough that I'm not rushing, which is when accidents happen.
@@hailster agree! 4 way wedge would be nice little add on I think as well! The machine is a workhorse

Looks a little dry try spraying every 2-3 weeks
I will try that for sure! I was thinking that. If I spray it will it help heat it up more as well?
I’m not sure if it helps heat but I no if you have decay in there it will heat up also some wood chips if your looking for heat. But I always try to keep mine damp
@@stephenbarnaby1509 Awsome. I will give that a try for sure
Broke my new champion after four hours... Piece of shit. I rebuilt my old county line. Never again wit champ
Good review. Sounds like a good splitter for a family to buy and use. Maybe even start a small business with it. Thanks.
Thank you! Thanks for watching! I do also have some other splitting videos. It is great family splitter
Never understood why guys split so small.........I like those larger roasters. I have the same splitter and love it.
Do you think I spilt too small? Ya the splitter is great for the money! It is a workhorse!
Super log splitter 👍
Thanks!
I agree that the hydraulic filter should be protected by a light deck that could hold a half round and the table on both sides could be a bit wider. As for a four-way split, head I think the compound head on this splitter is by far the best head for a moving head splitter I have seen or used. In my personal opinion the only time a multi way split head is useful is if the split head is stationary and the pieces are being pushed all the way through. This is the perfect splitter for my firewood business. The cycle time is exceptional and the light weight makes it easy to take to the wood or move as the pile moves. I would guess I have split more than 40 cords with mine in the last 16 months. Had a cylinder fail that was promptly replaced. Runs like a dream.
Great! Thanks for the comment and feedback. How many cords a year are you splitting for your business? It does have some nice power which I like.
@@Giantpumpkinswitheric Mostly I run a firewood processing business. I try not to take possession of the wood. I would guess on average I split around 6 cords a month. So I guess I really underestimated how many cords I have run across the splitter. It must be closer to 80 or 90 cords. I used to split wood by hand and felt like no splitter could keep up. Then my boss bought a 27 Ton Champion and there was no doubt it was faster than by hand and I was not as tired so I could spilt longer. When I "retired" I bought my own. I figure it takes me 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on if I have to go vertical for the big rounds, to process a cord.
I would say I am about the same. Maybe 1.5hrs to split a cord working at a good clip.
Check out the split fire splitter. It's dual direction. Best splitter I've ever bought
Eucalyptus next
@@naterager1 I don’t think it grows around here.
@@Giantpumpkinswitheric lucky you that stuffs hard as rocks.
I hope to grow a giant next year!!!! After fighting just about every pumpkin issue and winning I have what I think is bacterial leaf spot and if it is they say to rotate out curbits for 2-3 years. Do you know if that is in the same area or anywhere? I live on 8 acres and wondering if I could grow in another spot?
You could make another area and rotate. Or I have seen some growers plant mustard and then till the mustard under. When the mustard starts to rot it releases gasses and fumigates through soil and kills bacteria in the soil.
If anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer them!
this video has great information about growing pumpkins in general giant and small. thanks for this information.

What was the weight??
Came in at 531.5lbs. Little light but still a success!
I grow in a 315 square foot pumpkin patch, my larges was 789 pounds. This year I made a video every day and posted on RUclips. July 10th storm of 6 inches of rain in two hours took me out for a personal best this year but I still grew some giants. 🧡🎃🧡 agree with your list!

Good season! Too bad it went light, but nice to have an official weight on it. Also, weigh-offs are always a good time. They must subtract the weight of the lifting ring, strap and rope from the final weight. They always remove all of that before showing the final weight at the weigh-offs I go to. I like that because you can get a picture of it on the scale without those things on top.
@@theturnerranchwi I appreciate it! It was a really good time! I believe they zero the scale with the rigs before the weigh off starts. Had a good group show up for of family and friends for support! It came in 12.5% light unfortunately! Thank you for following along all season and for the tips and advice! I hope yours is still growing!

One of the easiest wood to split try elm or hickory or knotty pine
Sure is. Red oak is easy as well
Are we not supposed to bury or cover the shoot with the tendrils? I thought that was the root at first so had been. Now I know more but still at least covered to prevent drying out. Does that part do anything for the pumpkin in terms of nutrients and or water?
If you cover the shoot with the tendril it will just act more as an anchor for the plant. I don’t bury them. I let the tendrils stay up on top of the soil. The purpose of the tendrils is just to stabilize the plant and to grip things to anchor
Catching up on videos but are the flower boxes to attract pollinators or just pretty?
The flower boxes are for pollinators but they are nice to look at as well!
Another question, the male seems to be rubbed around the outside, I thought it would go in the middle?
@@bella61567 focus the pollen on the middle part of the female pollen. Get good coverage on all the parts
Wondering why you bring the male flowers in the night before vs grabbing them as you pollinate? (Just learning)
@@bella61567 I bring them in just so I do not need to tie them up the night before. It’s easier for me to head right out in the morning with the males rather than look for the males/cut them off from the plant in the morning
@@Giantpumpkinswitheric good to know! Is there a way to preserve the male flowers so when the ale blooms we have them. A few times I had no male flower when the female bloomed. I assumed I needed to select flowers from the same species (I have 4 species I’m growing)
@@bella61567 I would network with another grower near you. Pollen is only good/alive for 4-6 hours. Fresh males that just opened work the best. If you do not have any males another grower could give you a few the day before
Love your videos and learning a lot. Do you have a video on vine management? I can’t really see the topic from the video list
I thought I saw someone mention prune no the tip of the main to stop the length growth and direct energy to the fruit. Of course now I can’t seem to find anything on that.
@@bella61567 thanks for watching! I do not have a video specifically on vine management but if you are going to train any vines only move in the heat of the day. The vines are way more flexible. If you move them first thing in the morning they will snap very easy
@@bella61567 some people stop the main vine at the fruit. Other growers keep the main vine growing all season. You want to terminate side vines when they reach about 15 feet

Looking forward to using your growing tips for a first try on a giant! I've got my seeds and am researching to prep my area. You've inspired me ! P.S 2 volunteer pumpkins popped up from my cold composting. One was a carnival and the other an Atlantic giant! Had no idea how to care for them- only watered and gave fertilizer tea at the base of each. 18 carnival and 10 30-pound lovelies later, I'm hooked!🎃
