STIHL 011AVT - 1989
1989 called and said they wanted their chainsaw back.
I found this one in the back corner of the shop, along with a set of carburetor gaskets and a new air cleaner. The crankcase passed the pressure test so I rebuilt the carb, replaced the reed valve gaskets and here it is.
This saw is very, very different than a current STIHL model. The oil pump on this saw runs with the engine, so it pumps oil to the bar any time the engine runs. The oil pump is not mechanically operated like modern models this one uses an impulse port and a diaphragm arrangement not much unlike how the fuel pump section of the carburetor works.

California Import Parts - BUYER BEWARE

BUYER BEWARE This place sold me a brand new defective carburetor and won't take it back. If you buy one just understand that the picture they show on their website does not match the carburetor you will receive. And in my case, the carburetor I got will never work and could not possibly have been tested at the factory. CIP1.COM - they have beautiful pictures of carburetors that you won't get if...
STIHL MS261C Chainsaw - Replace Piston & Cylinder
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Fresh out of Silver certification school I got a call from my instructor and he asked if I would be willing to fix a burned up MS261. A "real life" warranty job. I would do at least one thing differently now; clean the entire machine more thoroughly before beginning the work.
Stihl SH86 shredder / blower 20 dollar find

This one needed a new spark screen, air filter, and a pull start rope. I didn't even touch the fueling system it ran just fine with a cleaned spark plug and fresh fuel. I cleaned the parking lot for about 5 minutes with this thing and it worked perfectly.

Customer bought this trimmer, used the fuel we put in it, and then put regular gas in it. He did not want to pay for a repair and abandoned the machine. I ordered the parts to repair it and sold it for the cost of the repair.

This machine was warranty scrapped by Stihl for a failed piston. After the call-back period expired I was free to do what I wanted with it so I ordered in the parts and re-assembled the machine with a new piston & cylinder assembly.
STIHL MS192TC - Replace piston & cylinder (customer installed upside down)
Просмотров 9 тыс.2 года назад
Customer brought this saw to me non-running after replacing the piston & cylinder, unfortunately the customer put the piston in upside down and ruined the rings and cylinder. In addition the flywheel had a broken off key, the carburetor gaskets were bad, the fuel pump was bad, the sprocket was worn out...the list goes on. Customer said to fix it, so I fixed it. It runs quite nicely now.

This one came in with a no power complaint. Spark arrest screen was completely blocked. I installed a new plug, pickup body, air filter, and adjusted the carb. Starts/runs great now.
STIHL MS362CM

This MS362CM was dropped off with a no start complaint. It started right up for me but it needs some attention before it can be used again. The chain is way too loose and the area under the chain cover is packed full of plant debris. I found rust on the chain and rim sprocket because the material was damp and left to sit in the saw.
STIHL SH86c repair

This one came in today with a stick in the works, a broken kill circuit, and needing a tuneup. I installed a new HD2 filter, SH86 service kit, and repaired the wiring at the kill switch inside the handle.

A survivor for sure. The engine runs great.
California Import Parts failed to respond to the complaint I filed with the WA attorney general. They also failed to respond to the complaint I made with the AZ attorney general. My credit card sided with me on this and gave me a permanent credit for this purchase. This is a Dishonest Company. Do Not Buy from these folks.
I have the same problem, can you give me some pointers on how to start wit the piston replacement? Is there a manual and a list of parts to look for? I have a BR 380
So I just checked the only documentation I can find that mentions a BR380 is a tech bulletin from 2005. It looks like this might be a non-USA model?
Next time add tool size please
Complaints filed with Arizona and Washington attorney general. They're still showing the wrong pictures since at least 8-9-24. 10-11-24.
What EMPI (Engineered Motor Products, Inc. if I am not mistaken) needs to do if they are actually serious about supporting people with a stock fuel system is send a separate threaded bung with the carburetor that has been turned down to match the stock VW fuel inlet size. 1/4" fuel hose is for american cars, VW beetles run cloth braided 5mm fuel hose. FYI for those fine engineers at EMPI: 1/4" converts to 6.35mm. Too big for 5mm fuel hose. End of discussion. And shame on CIP1 for not just taking this thing back. Even my trash can doesn't want this thing because it doesn't match the picture. You didn't send me what I thought I was buying and you still have the incorrect pictures up as of 8/31/2024 - 10/11/2024. Shame on you CIP1.
Yeah so CIP1 is telling me they want me to destroy the carburetor, take pictures of it and send them, and then they'll issue me a credit. Meanwhile the incorrect pictures of this item remain on their website as of 8/28/2024. Anyone who buys this item from california import parts will not receive the pictured goods. The difference is more than cosmetic as you cannot run stock VW cloth braided fuel line on a 1/4 inch barbed fitting.
Asked how to change it not start with the cylinder and piston already out
Just leave it out.
Nope. Just like warning placards/decals, If they are missing I replace them.
Precise and delicate
Probably made in china knock off
After my husband tore out 😂my first neulasta-ouch-seeing your video made me freaks out on fail-safe for next treatment 😮
where did you buy the piston and head ?
OEM Stihl
Has anyone upgraded the led assembly to a triple led assembly on a dcf787 model impact driver
What is that stop tool? Is it from stihl too?
Yep. Locking strip, STIHL part number 0000 893 5905 $2.20 at the dealer.
Where’s the blowing tube
How do you get it back in, mine a pain to get back in
Spray it with some WD-40/PB Blaster/ Stihl multipurpose lubricant(my fav) and then use a rocking motion to push it back into the slot.
My first training in high school photography was before digital cameras ever existed, believe it or not, and the details of a camera's mechanical makeup were never shared like this. It was explained though that at high speeds, one side moves closely behind the other to create a stripe of exposure in equal timing all the way down the film and just today I was wondering how that was mechanically possible. Your video gave me a good clue about that but what I am really looking for is a breakaway mechanical drawing and 3D digital model/animation that can demonstrate this at slower than real time. Mechanical cameras were a wonder of technology. Something I saw recently that triggered my curiosity on this subject were some video of old phosphorous flash cameras being used where a second person held the flash in the air. The timing coordination between the camera and this kind of flash intrigued me as well. Of course, film was not as fast to expose back then so motion would be pretty blurry.
very impressive post more
I took the muffler off to look at the piston. I don't see a "ring" in the groove on the piston. Is that normal? Should I take it apart to inspect it closer?
How much did you charge the customer to do all that? Might as well go out and buy a new one
The customer abandoned the machine after it was determined that the engine was destroyed. I fixed it because I needed some practice doing P&C exchanges and sold it as-is in running condition for the price of the parts and shipping.
Rakitan baru broo
nice
It is better put everything original.I always buy original parts
where did you buy ples link
Cool tool 😊❤
Great work. I would like to see a lot of young man learning different trade it will be a different country. All I seeing is pushing buttons on the self phone.
This was in the shop again yesterday. Bar oiling hole got blocked, chain ran dry and started to smoke. Customer stopped running and brought to me. Clutch service, chain sharpen, bar dressing later it left running and oiling. Nice to see an engine that I built from parts out doing work in the field.......
Nice clean and organized work great traits to have i can tell you take pride in your work 👍 nicely done pardner I wish I had a tech like you I don't mind paying for the job if done right the first time well done carry on gentleman 😀 👍
I waring this last ten years to some people. "If you replace with original parts.. your trimmer or chainsaw will last longer"I was working at stihl dealer and it was great experience
I will at some point master the art of pouring fuel from a can.....
What type of seal do you use ? The red one
Dirko HT (high-temp). It's the sealant STIHL specifies in the service book. However just about any RTV should do the job.
Thank you for this video just save me some money and taught me how to fix my impact drill💯
Any reason you used the soft seals instead of the hard seals? I thought the soft seals were only if you didn’t want to split the cylinder and pan?
This one came back again with a fuel leak this time. I put in a new fuel line from the purge primer to the carb/tank vent and it is back up and running again.
Hey buddy, I have a 68 chronostop 920 cal. I need to find out which parts make up the datejumper mechanism. Under the plate is just a spring on mine so date disc is loose. Any help much appreciated
where do you get the piston and the cylinder ? do I need the same model number?
I work for a dealer and order my parts direct from STIHL.
Great tutorial thank you! Attempting this today.
What type of grease is that you are putting on the oil stops
STIHL multipurpose grease
So this machine came back yesterday with a not running right complaint. It looks like it got wet, the plug is corroded externally, the clutch springs and shoes are rusty, clutch drum is rusty. What stopped the show is the chain brake, it's a farmertec cover and it melted and the brake band is out of position and rubbing the drum now. New housing on the way along with some clutch parts.
Show Video of 029 Stihl. Boot attaching to carburator 11:17
Great video! Definitely going to subscribe
thank you sir
So, you really skipped out on the one part I was looking for. In regards to the "top plate" which, as I understand it, some of the 029's use it and some don't. Could you clarify as to weather or not a "top plate" is required or not? It's basically a formed washer that goes under the clutch. Thanks!
Best way I have found is to use 50:50 vinegar and Hydrogen Peroxide. Eats most metals! Even copper! If that don't work (chromium), muriatic (hydrochloric) works better but has a fume to it. Works super fast. And I can leave and not effect the stone at all. Also it eats metals ajax or bar keepers won't touch (rare earths). I admit yours is a lot safer method though. Only use acids if this won't work. I use on my Gesswein ruby stones for jewelry work and for gunsmithing use. Also for various other tasks in my engineering.
I have to say you do good work u seem like you actually care if it's done right and u torque the bolts not many shops around me do that. Good job I really like watching your videos.
Nice work but replacing all caps is generally unnecessary. The common failing caps are from later years not the 80s.
I’m working on the same saw. I have a question regarding the little spring on where it goes. Thank you
Inside the impulse line from the cylinder to the handle housing.
At 11:52 when you install that rubber grommet is there a screw that goes in there as well? I found a 029 and it had screw that was just sitting in that grommet not doing anything just rubbing up against the muffler. I wasn’t sure if I was missing something. Thank you
The small annular buffer does not have a screw. It uses two plastic spreaders to keep it on.
