Joseph Oziel - Tape 5, "TRIFECTA FOLKLORA" [Audio + Cover]
Просмотров 503 месяца назад
The fifth tape, called trifecta due folklora due to the 3 composers in the cover, Bartok, Ginastera, and Saygun, who were inspired by folk music, and borrowed many aspects of them in their music. This is a granular synthesis of three of their pieces: - First Movement of the Bartok Piano Sonata - First Movement of Ginastera's Second Piano Sonata - First Two Etudes from Saygun's 10 Etudes in Aksa...
Joseph Oziel - Tape 4, "This is my disco" [Just Audio + Cover]
Просмотров 283 месяца назад
Fourth tape in the series. It kinda sounds like disco music hence the name. The idea is interesting. I wrote the same synth track, and saved it five times, but with these tempos: quarter note = 98, 99, 100, 101 and 102. And then in shotcut I overlayed them on top of each other producing polyrhythms. Now you can really hear the difference in 1 bpm. Everything becomes much more spread out as it g...
Joseph Oziel - Tape 3, "Many Instruments" [MIDI Visualization]
Просмотров 393 месяца назад
This is the third tape. Just a midi visualization. The idea for this tape is actually quite simple. General MIDI uses number identifiers for its instruments, so I looped through some sequences (from OEIS), and mapped the number to a pitch and instrument (with modulus if it is too large). And then I did it with 3 different voices and sequences, and put them together. The green sequence continuou...
Joseph Oziel - Tape 2, using fractal sequences [MIDI Visualization & Musesound Audio]
Просмотров 724 месяца назад
The second MIDI tape in the series. This one uses fractal sequences for OEIS (online encyclopedia of integer sequences). This one was not programmed in python, but instead used the "listen button" for the sequences. The values of the sequences provided the value of the pitches that were to be played (modulus 88 of course). Fractal Sequences Used: A003602: Kimberling's paraphrases. Fractal seque...
Joseph Oziel - Tape 1, using trigonometry [MIDI Visualization & Sonic Analysis]
Просмотров 1094 месяца назад
This I believe, is my first electronic piece. I composed it entirely using trigonometry to choose the pitches, and coded the program in python, using the midiutils library. In the beginning, the first voice is playing a sine function, and then the second starts with cosine, and shortly afterwards, the third voice starts with sin(x)/x. The midi visualization really helps see the functions. Then ...

Joseph Oziel - Brangerspar, for Piano Trio (2024) Performance: MIDI This is first piano trio I have written. It was meant to have more movements, but I did not feel like writing the rest of them, unfortunately. The beginning is blue and solemn, slowly devolving into random madness. That must be portrayed in the playing of this piece. The piece starts with two notes, Eb and Gb, and slowly adds m...

Fantastic !
A beautiful piece. Would that we could all have such a gloriously productive old age!
I don't think the concept is entirely new, but it is filled with intense life
And when the world needed him most he returned.

FAN-TAS-TIC!!! I must say my ignorance impedes me from understanding the text, but as far as text-aside-music, this is AWESOME! Thanks so much for sharing.
You can hear the complement union property at work here.
I know about music, i study music, i compose a bit. To my opinion this is just shit. Its awful. It reminds me of some abstract idiots that paint gibrish paintings looking like shit meaning nothing and other abnormals praise them. If she wanted to protest or bring attention to Stalin's atrocities i can totally get it. Other wise its not music its shit it just gives you a nice headache...
Such lovely instrumental colors-and what a sense of humor!
Fix your clefs Turnage
What a compelling piece! Gradually getting to know Schnittke's work, thanks for uploading this!
Great piece, thanks for sharing! What edition of the score is this? The choice of clef in the piano at points is baffling!
Believe it or not, this is the second version. Yeah I believe a lot of those clef choices were mistakes lol
Wow! Surprising. There must be something I'm missing. Turnage 100% knows what he's doing.@@JosephOziel
Crazy software behavior? Maybe edited by Sing-GPT?
Yeah. Probably deleted clefs
Ah yes, Turnage, quite a time I've heard a composition of him. Thank you for sharing.
Sounds like Ross Geller’s song he wrote on the keyboard
Interesting 😊 The drawing however resembles more Stockhausen's Licht. 😊
Thank you!
Is this the commisioned work for Tomorrowland 2024?😊
Actually, do you know the book by Nierhaus about algorithm composition? I was thinking the other day about it after your post.
I have not heard of it. I will check it out!
@@JosephOziel I bought it a couple of years ago at a - more or less - reduced price, these publications are pretty expensive usually. It gives an overview of possibilities concerning algorithms like cellular automata and fractals and such. The composers who use all these techniques, I still have to explore.😊 I also noticed that Neil Sloan, mathematician, of the OEIS, has put his sequences on music, a bit like you did here. Anyway, all the best.
oh wow this sounds really interesting. i will try to get the book, or possibly find it online. Thank you!@@christophedevos3760
Great idea, well done. Is this the way Ligeti did it in his etudes? 😊
Thank you! Ligeti was, in fact, against using pure math and science in his music. He instead preferred to be inspired by aspects of it, such as the neverending way of fractals, and their patterns in the fourth movement of his piano concerto
@@JosephOzielindeed.
compression/stretching of rests and poor rhythm overall make this a frustrating performance
I thought this man couldnt write music in his style without excess glissando but this is pretty cool
peaceful
Interesting, I had no idea this could be done? I'm puzzled how you go from python to midi? Anyway , thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I used the library MidiUtil, which allows me to generate midi files from python code
@@JosephOziel I see. 😊
thank you for this posting

How do people actually enjoy listening to this? Honest question.
yes. very, very much :)

I want this to be played at my burial

One of my new instant favourites.
sodelicious.............................
Very expressive! Love the interplay of the lines - if you follow them, they definitely transport. At moments here and there I sense an almost Scriabinesque flavor, which is always a huge bonus.
sigh
sodelicious…
This is what happens when you take subjectivity too far
That's my cat wandering around the piano, guys. Sorry about the noise 😃
Your cat must be an incredible composer.
So boring. I'll stick to Barber's Piano Concerto.
Really lovely music ✨ I have to ask though, is it a rick roll or is the similarity coincidental?
I’m pretty sure it’s coincidental lol
pretty piece
random noise edit: oh you're the guy that mindlessly, religiously glazes Cage.
I’m more of a ligeti fan
Aww, little Johann Kari Baldursson here shitting on Benjamin. Having been a pupil of Geroge, I can guarantee you'd never win a single argument against him. Calling this "random noise" says everything about you; that is, you have no idea what you're talking about.
@@JosephOzielWhy not block that asshole (real name Johann Kari Baldursson)?
@@philipconnelly1505 I bet. I am not a fan of George Benjamin, but I appreciate his craft. What you say about "never win a single argument against him" is so accurate, not only for George Benjamin, but for the overall British circle of composers. I had the opportunity to witness - these Brits are always so incredibly sharp - and absolutely no BS. Nothing slides
What a typical, WIM-hateful comment 😃
Delicate but not based..! Based means nothing!!
Movement 2 is so amazing (and the rest of the movements)
hell yeah
Distinctly baffled by the people claiming *this* piece is ‘just noise’. My god
John Cage was an asshole Haikus being Japanese, and I Ching being Chinese Bro was doing crossover cultural appropriation at its finest
Based! I am stupidly curious how many people also thought Carter composed it because he was 90 years old?
He was close to 90 when it was composed lol
coincidence...? 🤣@@JosephOziel

@@JosephOziel Thank you for making it.

Thank you!
@@JosephOziel -- Remarkable detail and complexity! Where did you learn such Annotation? What were you thinking? BRAVO from Mexico!
@steveegallo3384 i was inspired by ligeti, mainly his Kammerkonzert. As for notation, I have to thank some friends, also thank you
Quite an endeavor to learn all the rhythms. Did you practice with metronome?
This isn't my performance, but it is true that this piece is difficult rythmically
Given the fact that this is a solo piece, my solution would be to just approximate it. Even amongst an audience of professional musicians, hardly anyone would notice or care that you didn't get the rhythm exactly right. When it comes to modernist music, there are composers like Messiaen, Ligeti, and Reich, whose music requires absolute rhythmic precision. This piece is not among them.
Snappy little tune. I can't get it out of my head. Now I'll be whistling this all day.
Jesus aint coming!
