Канада
Добавлен 19 май 2008
This Channel is a collection of railway-related videos , the originals of which were taken by John Cowan. Starting in 2021, the video clips were provided to James F Gilham, (aka Skeena Pacific), who did the technical work of editing, re-editing or re-mastering them and uploaded them to this site on John's behalf. Others have assisted John in the past, for which he is also very grateful. In July, 2024, Mike Lara took on the duties of editing, mastering and posting John's videos to RUclips.
The videos range from 1978, taken from Super 8 film, to the present day. They are from locations throughout the Americas, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Boy, I'd sure pay to have captions added to explain where the heck we are throughout this film!
4070 was the lead Amroad unit in the movie Silver Streak.
Those CP yards IN st Luc were something else , i saw so many rare units there . American units ( before all these mergers ) were sent up there for work to be done on em. Id see Cp's on the St Lawrence bridge with flat cars hauling Washington, Boston & NYC subway cars. Now, since that merger, CP yards are gated ( which, they always shoulda been) . Plus who could forget the shortcut those yards would be from Cote De Liesse. Ahh memories of CP around Montreal. Edit: i see u got shots from the tower in Mo.West at 20:28 . Nice. The history around that area is nuts , with the tracks going in three directions- I understand that station had most of its traffic from the Elmhurst- Sealtest Diary. At 22:36 that track was the first and for a time the only CN CP track that crossed over.
Cool video of old cp trains!! Hey john the first video of your video number 4070 cp f7 that same locomotive was used in the movie silver streak!!!
Those double deckers had so much room awesome
Wowwwww Real sound's direction from the 8mm camera ? So great to heard that !!!!
Brings back many memories. Didn't remember the old conventional having a new comet at the end so they could be bi-drectional. Only remember STCUM/AMt electrifying the old ones to get rid of steam heat (and then not having locos with HEP, so those boxcars with generators in them). CP ran its gallery car trains with locos on west side to redice amount of walking at windsor station. STCUM/AMT and EXO today, runs the locos on east side to increase walking (but easier access to switch locos at Vaudreuil). The used to be a wye at Dorion yards to turn around the old conventional trains. (and a wye at Rgaud as well, but once down to 1 train per day and using the bi-drectionla gallery cars, it was no longer used).
This has to be fake. The coke hwy is where most of this is. The hwy has been there for atleast 80 years
Never to be seen here again.
Isn’t it odd that this line has survived and the Ottawa valley line which was used more than this one has been abandoned
Nice footage of the havelock sub I remember seeing this train at locust hill in about 1976
great capture of a lost adventure
You do realize you got the year wrong.
Great video! Come see lucastrainverse!
My dad was engineer for Hydro, on that route for 38 years. He retired in 1983. We lived next to tracks in Milner. Had a derailed train in our yard in the 70s. My grandfather worked on the passenger trains. Nice to see these memories
Weird 1246s bell isn’t original CP. same w 1293. Wonder if the Bella changed when they arrived to RMNE and OC specifically
A journey I never tire of. The last time I did it I took my bike with me and rode from Einasleigh to Forsayth. Spectacular ride over the Newcastle Range and really enjoyed my stay at Forsayth.
If I'd known about the Savannahlander when I visited Cairns some years ago, I would have made time for it. However, watching your video is the next best thing.
Thanks John, such good memories of such a great trip.
Wow ! Thanks for sharing.
Looking Fabulous and Fantastic and Spectacular Condition Famous Canadian Identity Railroad Business Locomotives across Canada
The sound heard across Courtenay and environs at 12: 30 and 1: 10 pm.
Among other trips on the E&N I used to ride this train twice yearly going to and from tree planting in the Horsefly and Likely area from Courtenay to Williams Lake by train. I had a gigantic pack that weighed in at around 80 pounds with clothes and shelter for a couple of months work that I would somehow manage to get track side from my cabin the the woods for the ride down to Nanaimo and then lug that pack by cab or something to the ferry and across to the North Shore to catch the other Budd Car on BCRail off to Williams Lake to catch another ride or two out into the bush. It was a rite of spring for me to make these trips back and forth year in and year out. Eventually I had to substitute the Greyhound bus for the Island leg of these journeys (another lost relic from the past) after the Inland Island highway had put the final nail in the coffin of rail service up and down Vancouver Island.
So glad I rode this when I did.
I love it! Central Vermont Railway is Canadian National Heritage unit.
BC Rail budd cars went to Vancouver central station? Usually you have to go to North Vancouver to catch them
great video, thanks for sharing
incredible! not much early 80s Vancouver stuff viewable on the net. This is pure gold. Love the BN stuff and the footage of the end of the first Amtrak era in Vancouver before 81
Love the consists. Don’t recall Conway scenic owning a fourth CNJ coach. I recall they have 3 from what I remember
they have 4. whitehorse ledge is out of service on the turntable track. the combine coach was given to downeast scenic in 2010
@@Mountaindivisionrailfan252I appreciate the info. Had some ideas for replicating some CNJ and DLW coaches. Although that would be a handful

Nothing better than seeing FP units in comutter service.
Vivid memories of the 1301 and 1302.
Good film, lots of CN & CP steam locomotives up for grabs around that time! Good film! Thanks!
It’s a shame that 8mm film deteriorates overtime and its expensive to have the content digitised to dvd! So many old films have been lost due to degradation! So it’s nice to watch fairly decent film still surviving! Thanks for sharing!
I love the old deteriorated sound. Gives it a flare if you know what I mean. Reminds me of when 3254 was in her CN years
Awesome. Via outta bring back the baggage cars.
CP 8800: Built by MLW (1958). Rebuilt by CP Angus as RS-18u, chop-nosed and renumbered to #1831 (4/3/1985).
So im confused. What was a CP freight doing at a CNR yard ? Then taking one CN's engines
This is a great film John. Thank you. I am a railfan and a lifelong wanderer of the Gatineau and Ottawa valley. I enjoyed seeing the old equipment and familiar scenery.
Too bad that some rail bed is missing between Princeton a Coalmont now. Rebuilding those sections and replacing the iron bridges the floods took away would be $10's of millions.
Gotta love red ALCO's . Nice vid , thanks for posting !
I remember taking the ACRR through Agawa Canyon back in the mid 70s. One of the most beautiful trios I ever took.
Tracks in good condition
Imagine being the guy who has to sit in that caboose listening to those flat spots banging into your head all day. I'd find whoever squared off those wheels and have some serious words for them 😂

Hard to believe that in five more years, this line was shut down. And 11 years later the Kettle Valley Steam Railway would be in operation over part of this line. I know I wasn't around for this but I still recognize the landscape in some areas. Especially at Trout Creek and West Summerland.
Only just discovered this video.I was a Pinjarra based volunteer with HVTR from 1981 to 1995,great times with great people.945 looks a bit scruffy, don t the crews clean locos any more?.Great to see 1401 smoking out the bush,I was one of several HVTR members who put the money together to purchase this loco from Westrail so I still have a financial interest in this machine.
Fantastic video, well done. I can’t wait to film Hotham Valley in the near future.
The most beautiful horn I've ever heard. I wish I could make the trip to Squamish to ride that most excellent Budd car,see the museum, and dream of a few BC Rail MLW and SD units to be there too. Thanks for sharing the video and bringing back memories of the Provinces Greatest Enterprise.
You found thr D&H Lines.
Do they still do these trips?
Hello! Yes, we still run this Budd RDC every Thursday and Saturday this summer, as well as Sunday long weekends. We continue to utilize CN's right-of-way as often as they will allow.
@@CJDipper1212 That's cool! Hopefully one day you guys can work something out with CN and do a longer trip up through the canyon or something. A trip to Whistler or Pemberton maybe?
As a five year old, I rode over the kettle valley and columhia and western travelling between Vancouver and Nelson. I still remember parts of the trips at 72.
Very cool.old enough to have seen bits of this line in use.
That was very good. Sad to see it's gone.
