you're missing the washer that goes against the spring. it either fell inside the oil pan or it's stuck.

Wish you had taken your time filming the position of the hooks. You went so fast on the camera I can't tell where they are at. In that second position I can't see the hook at all. Is it the hole on the frame of the car?
Very Helpful video and thank you for posting it. on that 12mm bolt that goes through the caliper and into the fork, there was a nut on it that I had to get an open ended wrench on and there is a plastic white cover that goes over the end of the 12mm bolt head that just pulls right out with a flat head screw driver. That was the only difference when I did my 81 xj650j.

I did not install a relay. All I did was unplug the old light and plug the new LED one in. I put the link in the description for the LED light that I used.
Did you end up upgrading your headlight? I remember reading on xjbikes that a relay was needed but not exactly sure why or what it does
