What is unique about the Mall? Originally it's customer base was the local residents, go there today and it's clear the only customers they are interested in are tourists and PRIMARILY the Asian tourists looking to shop at the Rodeo Drive.esq designer stores.

Even if they may "look" local, true 3rd+ gen residents usually show respect. Many times vacationers show no respect for our what is acceptable & thats usually where troube starts. Hey Dwayne ! Next time if we get to Oahu , we need to spend the whole morning at Kaka’ako Markets.. Our mission was to have JoJa Burgers then to the Bishop Museum on the Saturday we were there. Absolutely loved the JoJa Burger and we got a sugarcane drink from Sugah Daddeh. Totally blown away how good the sugarcane drink was with a squeeze of lime and ice ! We only touched the surface of Kaka’ako Markets. You are right about the Aloha feeling about the markets , we loved it to. Cheers Rod and Gemma 🤙

Mahalo Rod and Gemma! Listen, I'm down to spend any time at this market. There are always new and regular vendors to see and try. But you guys did it right when you came to visit Bishop Museum. I had no idea Bishop Museum would be about Polynesian History I thought it was just Hawaiian history so I was in HEAVEN learning about the history of Hawai'i through the lens of Polynesia and how the islands are so interconnected. I gotta get to Australia one of these days!

😂😂You peeped that!!!! So, you wanna know what's funny? I was trying some different things with this episode from a creative perspective, mainly more angles of the camera and a few other musical things (shout out to @josehernandezjr whos a dope creator and has incredible visuals and music placement is on point), so I was flirting with the idea of eating on cam this time. I don't know I how feel about it yet. I just don't like having my mouth open on camera while I'm eating, so not sure if I will do it again. But for this episode, I really wanted to illustrate how good this food was to me so it felt appropriate. I really love these places and would eat any of them again in second! As a matter of fact, I was just at Da Seafood Cartel's brick-and-mortar the other day cuz it's 🔥 If you ever come here, definitely go there! Happy to be back!!! Mahalo for coming back too! 🤙🏾❤️🙏🏾

Aloha Dwayne, mahalo nui for this informative video. I just turned 65, and finally got my senior Holocard, and was anxious to try it out. The older I get, the less I like driving my truck around, so I want to take advantage of public transportation. I spent 4 weeks in Japan last year taking advantage of their amazing public transportation. I purchased a rail pass, and travelled 3900 miles via rail, and walked 107 miles. Japan really inspired me to use more fully Honolulu's public transit system. Aloha a hui hou from Kailua.

Aloha, Dwayne! I'd like to think that most residents are as good as you make them out to be. But it's not a perfect paradise ... there are some bad apples. As a local, I've often wondered how black transplants feel about living in Hawaii, whether they feel more comfortable living here than wherever they came from. And I've also wondered what they think of our local police officers. Thank you for sharing your experience. I, myself never met a black person until I went to college on the mainland. Never met a Jew until I went to the mainland, too. And I personally knew maybe a dozen Haoles (Caucasians who had originally lived on the mainland) up until that time. The vast majority of the people that I grew up with were Japanese, Chinese, Filipinos, Hawaiians, and Portuguese (Portuguese weren't considered to be Caucasian). The local population of Hilo back in the 60's very much reflected the sugar cane plantation heritage. When I was born, sugar was still the primary industry on the Big Island. Reflecting back at my childhood years, I think you would have fit right in. 😉

Agree with the majority of this. I had the same experience the 25 years I lived there. But something needs to be said of local people using the N-word. Way too many do and use it as a pejorative. And in the workplace, I got passed over many a times because they picked a local person with way less experience than me. Love Hawaii, but it’s not without its problems. Just a little perspective, I’ve been back living in the Midwest for 7 years and have literally never heard anyone using the N-word as a pejorative in my presence. Heard it wayyyy too many times to count in Hawaii.

thank you for this video... inspirational. I'd like to reach out to you via email with a few questions. As someone who has lived in a few states in America I understand where you're coming from with mainland energy. thank you, Dwayne.

Great video..Hawaii is really a mixture of different cultures...People will be treated kindly if they giveout kindness & respect...but once they start acting disrepectful, locals will snub you for sure..
