Wonderful interpretation, with a purity of voice rarely heard from today’s sopranos. Elisabeth Schumann originally sang this alongside the composer, Richard Strauss, accompanying her on the piano. That violin note at the end in this orchestral version is sublime.

I have some idea of his opinions of Toscanini, Strauss, Krauss, Schuricht, Abendroth, Knappertsbusch, (and obviously Karajan), but this question for me sort of undermines the whole presumed subjective objective dichotomy.

Does anyone know what became of that rumor that there existed a recording of the Bruckner 7 adagio with Muck in Hamburg?
