Hi Teresa, I can’t manage without the extension table especially for ruler work. You can adjust the feet individually so it doesn’t wobble.

Hello Sandra, once the feed dogs are lowered then the length of stitch depends on how quickly you move the fabric and how much pressure you put on the foot pedal. Your hands become the feed dogs and once you relax into the movement, you move in rhythm with hands and feet. Takes practice, but well worth it. Think much slower than free motion work. Good luck .

HelloJan, this quilt as you go technique has the backing fabric and wadding already in place when you add the front strips. To join the blocks together we need sashings on the front and the back. There are other techniques where you join the front blocks together and then use a large backing fabric in one piece but it’s more complicated as you have to join the wadding. I would suggest you make a small lap size quilt to start and build your confidence.
