My new classes in April will be working on blocks which create a second pattern when joined together and tessellation. This video looks at off centre log cabin using contrasting light and dark fabric in different widths.

Once the blocks are completed the fun starts playing with the arrangements and seeing the patterns emerge. Small blocks can be used as a border by simply rotating them.

Quilt as You Go crazy quilt blocks 5
Who's the guy walking outside, saw him thru the window, I had my sound turned off and followed along as you worked.
Ha, ha, my husband, he was gardening.
I just got this machine. Do you put the feed dogs down and watch stitch length ?
Hello Debbie, yes once the feed dogs are down, the speed I move the fabric will dictate the stitch length.
Hi from the US! Subscribed
Hello Laural, thanks a lot for that great video. Is this the original extension table, delivered with the machine, or did you buy it seperately? Many greetings, Christiane
Yes it is the original extension table. Stay in touch .
Hello Laurel, thanks a lot 😊
Just bought this machine 3 weeks ago. Loving it. I have 2005 husquavarna designer and this baby puts it to shame.
I have a 6650. A few years ago, I made the mistake of not going ahead and getting the 6700. Oh well. I'm looking at getting the extension table. How do you like it? It seems pretty steady, is it?
Hi Teresa, I can’t manage without the extension table especially for ruler work. You can adjust the feet individually so it doesn’t wobble.
Hello! I hope you had a blissful day. I just got to sit down and watch you with my hand quilting! I hope you have a glorious week ahead! Thank you for posting your video and your positive energy!
Laurel, Thank you for the demo. I sent you a message asking you if you would do the demo. I got my 6700 this past June but I work so I have not gotten to use it much. I have used it enough to know I love it!
I am not sure why my husbands name shows up but my name is Robin Collins.
What size stitch length please?
Hello Sandra, once the feed dogs are lowered then the length of stitch depends on how quickly you move the fabric and how much pressure you put on the foot pedal. Your hands become the feed dogs and once you relax into the movement, you move in rhythm with hands and feet. Takes practice, but well worth it. Think much slower than free motion work. Good luck .
You make it look so less fiddly than I thought is was, thank you for sharing.
My classes will be making lots of quilts using jellyroll from January. If you sign up to my website or Facebook page, you will see photos as their projects progress. Happy sewing.
Thank you for a very well explained crazy quilt tutorial, I think that I can definitely have a go at this technique. Much appreciated.
Thank you, this is a good technique if you prefer not to be precise in your cutting! It suits me perfectly. 😉
I love your bright pink thread. It’s a great machine. Nice choice.❤️
I only use Glide thread for ruler work, it works so well top and bottom
Love this Laurel, new subscriber here from Australia. I was so looking forward to seeing the finished demonstration quilt top too…😊✂️✂️
Thank you Julie, hope the demo helps. Making these videos helped me through lockdown but it’s great to be back teaching live. Hope the situation in Oz improves soon.
mike is to far away, CAN'T HEAR YOU........
I love my 6700P! I've had it for 3 yrs and have never regretted this purchase. It's a work horse!
I can hear this one! 😁
Thank you for your clear instructions. You helped me avoid making crooked seams by sewing outside-in on the Y seam. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get a straight 45-degree angle.. The line was crooked some of the time.
Good morning Yolanda, thank you for your kind comments. Please have a look on my website for images of completed Attic Windows or Arctic Windows as one of my ladies called it, she had draughty windows at home😂
@@laurelbyrnetreasurequilt8518 Artic windows--I like that! You are an excellent teacher. You take just the right amount of time between instructions to let the information sink in. Some people just talk too fast for the brain to absorb it all. Good luck--I hope more people discover your channel like I did.
as a person new to everything sewing and seeing so many different techniques to make my head spin, why do you put 2 pieces of sashing between the blocks?
HelloJan, this quilt as you go technique has the backing fabric and wadding already in place when you add the front strips. To join the blocks together we need sashings on the front and the back. There are other techniques where you join the front blocks together and then use a large backing fabric in one piece but it’s more complicated as you have to join the wadding. I would suggest you make a small lap size quilt to start and build your confidence. Have a look at my other videos and see if you find one you like or see the photos on my website with the projects I’m teaching in class, the kimono quilt is very easy. Welcome to our world. X
Congratulations! Their ploy worked didn't it...LOL While I haven't used a 6700, I did own a 6500 for many years and was hard to let it go but I moved up to a newer Janome. Ruler work is great isn't it? I have the same set as you, plus others I bought from China. Have fun!
Thank you Anna, I’m a Gold Westalee teacher and love them. They are made by Sew Steady .
I love this! Will definitely make one of these quilts. Your instructions and suggestions are very helpful. Thank you for making this video!
your voice is so calming and clear in this one.
Volume to low and I’m watching on an iPad.
I’m so sorry, you can’t hear well. I’ve been told it’s something to do with individual settings on each appliance. I’m going to try and add sub titles. Thank you for letting me know, it’s very frustrating.
No sound
Kathie can I ask what device you are watching on?
Glad I found you as you're so easy to follow. Looking forward to seeing more.
Thank you Louise, I imagine I’m in front of my live classes and talk to them.
I find the volume in this fine Laurel but I did have my phone volume on the highest. Very good photo quality and your clear instructions of course
Your sound needs to be turned louder.
Thank you Joyce, I don’t think I can control the sound on your device. I’ve checked the video on my tv, phone and iPad and it’s ok. Could you try listening on ear phones and see if that helps?
Hermoso trabajo y que buena combinación de tonalidades, gracias por compartir sus conocimientos, saludos! 👍🏻😀👏🏻🌹
Nice, clear demonstration of the log cabin block. I think I’ll try it. Thank you for the time and effort!

Yeah couldn't hear a thing, too bad
Hi Lee Anne, can you tell me what device you are trying to watch on please? I’ve checked and the sound is coming through fine on my tv, phone and iPad. Could you try ear phones and see if that helps and let me know as I don’t want to leave you disappointed.
I think you need to turn up your volume thank you
Very low sound!!!!
Hi Nancy, I’ve checked and it’s fine on my iPad t.v and phone. Could you try listening through ear phones and see if that helps. Let me know if it’s better.
Sorry but 5he sound quality was very bad.
