    You are adding vowels to the sounds. This is not correct. You are adding /er/ and /u/ sounds to some of the blends.

    Shouldn't blends with such as cr and dr and fr be pronounced without the "ER" sound? For example "cr" was pronounced "cer" but the picture is crab not "cer-ab"?

    • @brainfriendlyreading347
      @brainfriendlyreading347 9 месяцев назад

      We are OG trained and understand the emphasis on clipped sounds and the rationale behind your comment. Years ago I would have said the same thing. Fast forward years later using chart tapping instead of card decks, the explicit nature of tapping the chart and blends coupled with Arm Tapping (similar to finger tapping) has meant that children are never confused by a consonant blend that comes at the beginning or end of a syllable. They understand that Bossy Rs with an ER sound sit on their elbow when arm tapping. They know about syllables and when they tap those consonant blends and arm tap and write words (engaging in that orthographic mapping process) they very naturally understand those two letters come together at the beginning of a word. ALSO, using that slight variation of the R sound allows for continuous phonation with children who are still becoming proficient blenders at this level.

    • @brainfriendlyreading347
      @brainfriendlyreading347 9 месяцев назад

      Children benefit from tapping the charts daily. About two charts (or the equivalent of two charts at a time is as much as most children have stamina for). Start with the 1st chart (even if they are older) and then the BLENDS. Then do the TEAMS followed by the edge of the Syllable Chart. Many children don't NEED to tap the inside portion of the syllable chart. They can but they don't need to. Purchase the entire set of charts, directions, progress monitoring tool and a keyword page at brainfriendlyreading.org/shop for $6.

    When students are writing for dictation a word such as where- do they write wh /wh/ ere /air/? or do they write and spell the letters, then underline and say the word?

    • @brainfriendlyreading347
      @brainfriendlyreading347 9 месяцев назад

      There is a tricky word. Part of the word is expected /wh/ and in this case ere says /air/. I teach that word along with there. Both have a similar pattern and need to be taught explicitly using an approach similar to a heart word method.

    Why are the h-brothers done at the end?

    • @brainfriendlyreading347
      @brainfriendlyreading347 2 года назад

      The chart is arranged so that the children can easily find the H-brothers and 3-Letter Blends. We do want to tap them all together so the children see the pattern of two letters that make one sound. You can tap the H-brothers with the 1st Chart as many teachers do who use a Balanced Literacy curriculum and teach Kinder/1st grade. They want the children to practice those sound/symbol connections early and often.

    How did you decide which digraphs and trigraphs to include and which not to?

    • @brainfriendlyreading347
      @brainfriendlyreading347 2 года назад

      We picked the most commonly used ones. Since we have multiple charts, teachers/tutors/parents can select the charts that have the skills needed by the children in front of them. The 2nd Chart is meant for older children in upper grades who aren't necessarily struggling readers but may not explicitly know all of the phoneme/grapheme combinations on the chart. It becomes useful for them for spelling.

    I believe 'time' can be a proponent to learning to read in context to maturity, attention span and understanding of why reading is important. It is difficult with small children for them to understand the why. However when my 9 year old son realized he would have to know how to read to pass his driving test and be a safe driver he became very motivated to learn to read. Still with challenges but now with drive and understanding. Time served a very good purpose and helped him feel supported and allowed him to mature to reach his own point of motivation. 'Be still and know that I am God'!
