    I am battling this... it has taken years for a diagnosis because in my area (Western Canada) no vet seems to know anything about camelids. Alpacas in particular. It took a vet from Ireland to help me start on the path for alpaca recovery. Problem is - they still suffer even thought the skin scrapings come back they are gone. My one male is still inflamed and his immune system seems to have taken a beating. We used Ivomection (injectable) for several weeks... it didn't do anything. Then we used Dectomax - that seemed to work. I have now been told to bath them - but I don't know what to bath them with. My 18 year old male is getting so inflamed looking and now he has an odor. It is incredibly frustrating because I have been battling this for several years. What do you recommend?

    Just had to put down a couple months chick which I assumed had Mereks disease, however Im unsure as the sighs for it are almost completely paralysis. While my bird at first only had one leg that she wouldn’t stand on; but was still moving, eating, and drinking. However after a few days she began not eating or drinking, couldn’t move her one leg at all, laying down all the time, and would have these weird spasms which she would cry out and flap her wings frantically. Another reason why I am confused as she came from a store that clams or should have vaccinated chickens. Plus my other birds near her, both vaccinated or unvaccinated, weren’t showing any signs of having it. Again it was only her one leg that became paralyzed, not eating/drinking, and spasms. I know you might not see this, but you being a vet I have to ask if you may know or have any theories on what might have cause such symptoms?

    I have this issues in my chicken flock. It started by a hen, she looked just fine but seemed unbalance when she stood. Finally, she became total paralized, and died. Then same thing happened to two other hens. It also happened to a rooster, but I put the rooster down. Not long after that, a pullet about six month started to have same sympthom, she got worse day by day, so I put her down. And recently I also had hen with this issue but it was not able to eat because her beak couldn't open, seemed like it locked. It tried to feed it with hand but it did not work. Finally she died. And now I have a pullets that get weak legs, she is unbalanced, but still eat and drink. Until now, I am not sure what it is. I only knew ND can cause paralysis. So assume it is ND. But deep down I still not sure. I have tried my best and always encourage myself that this nightmare soon get away. But honestly, I am so exhausted, mentally and physically. I felt that I am not good enough at taking care of them ...

    I have pulled a triplet lamb from mum. I left all three on for best part of 4 days, to be sure she got her colostrum. I'm currently feeding half powdered colostrum and half milk replacer. With some added greek yoghurt. So far seems to be going well. No tummy upset that I can see. I will do that for another day before going fully onto milk replacer.

    It's time for the Australian & Kiwi accents to evolve so that they stop sounding like they're pinching their noses when they talk. It's too strident & irritating to listen to - as with vocal fry & the sibilant S everywhere. That said, add calcium supplements as well as a sprinkling of D3-K2 in their feed (I'll use a capsule per50 lb/22kg bag, for every other or every 3rd bag.) If you give them too much in the winter, it'll boost their mood & their production, but it'll stress them if forced to lay in the winter. I'd add it just into & coming out of winter.

    We thought a calf got stepped on. Now she is 3 months old and can't hardly walk on one of her front legs. Her front leg is cruching. We will have to put her down! 😢 She was born in a pasture and not my calf. it's just a shame being that she is so bright-eyed and happy! Other than the leg no health issues.

    Agree! When I was first taught hypothermic care for new kids, its ALWAYS honey in the mouth first and a warm bath until they hit 100 and it stays there. If you take them out and their temp starts dropping again, keep them in the bath until they are fighting to get out. Towle and hair dryer (or heat gun set to low) and then a heating pad blanket bed. Only after that do I start dripping warm colostrum into their mouth with a clean syringe. Just a mouthful at a time, until I've gotten at least half a cup into them. (I always keep colostrum stashes in the freezer, pre measured out for emergencies.) Usually after a 30ml syringe they are pretty strong and willing to nurse under their mother again. Then they are In the clear in a nice warm barn, sometimes burritoed up under a heatlamp for a snooze. About two hours after that warm snooze (and milk) they are on their feet and driving their nanny crazy.

  • @kuwaitloving
    @kuwaitloving 3 месяца назад

    We actually have 2 cases: a case when the stomach is full of gas only and here we can use Sodium Bicarbonate, but in the case of you can hear water sound when you shake the animal belly and here you cannot use the sodium bicarbonate because it will react with the liquids and rapidly produce air in the stomach and death will occur. In short, watery bloat is fatal and needs special medications not among them NaHCO3.

    I can't disagree more with your stance on euthanasia. I had chickens with this symptoms and 40-50 % of them made a full recovery. My stance is to isolate and give special care and extra vitamins (at least, if not some antibiotics) in the water until it recovers or dies naturally.
