Giddy Lane
Rush-Seven Cities Of Gold bass along (again)
Second time around! I keep trying to get better at this song and I think I have some degree. But nobody can be Geddy Lee like Geddy Lee! The man must be an alien. This song has fairly deep meaning at this point in my life...
"A man can lose himself, in a country like this
Rewrite the story
Recapture the glory..." Rush.
Once again, thank you JJ-BASSless for the bass-less track!

Rush-Stick It Out bass along
Просмотров 425Месяц назад
From the Counterparts album, Stick It Out is a hard driving, pounding song. This era of Rush saw them coming back to hard driving tunes pretty much free of keyboards. I also love this era of RUSH as they had started exploring alternate tunings including "drop D" (like this song). Playing this kind of driving tune makes me feel much younger… Although the only thing sticking out these days is ...
Rush-Time Stand Still bass along

Sometimes I wish time would just stand still. I wish Rush would still be a band, I wish I was still left with more time. "Freeze this moment just a little bit longer". This song is so powerful in its message. Much more so now that Neil has passed. This era of Rush is definitely alien to me... still learning this beautiful song. Again... thank you JJ-BASSless for the bass-less track.

Happy 71st birthday Geddy Lee!!! I have always wanted to work on learning something from Clockwork Angels... Rush's last album. Seven Cities of Gold was top on that list. I decided to learn it in honor of Ged's b-day but the time got away. I started working on this last night so I'm still getting the "feel" right but posted it anyway as I doubbt I'll get it right in time (if ever...). Forgive m...
Rush-Freewill-bass along (again)

Rush's Freewill is (was/will be) a very intimidating song for me! I posted a version about six months ago playing along with the full track... with Geddy as my crutch. JJ-BASSless has stripped the bass line away, leaving all of the other tracks. So I took my training wheels off and gave it a shot! I definitely have a little of my own "freewill" in here…

Alanis hired one of the best bassists around to lay down the groove for this song.... Flea... Frickin' Flea! I'm definitely NO Flea for sure!!! The dude is outa this world!!! I did my best funk... as a mainly prog rock/metal bassist, this is a little out there for me.😉🤘🏼 As always… Thank you, JJ-BASSless for the track with no bass.
Rush-The Spirit Of Radio bass along

After a weekend of campfires and fun chores, its back to the grind. The ultimate drive to work song. The Spirit Of Radio was Rush's stab at the establishment... an industry that is quite demanding and full of compromising. I can only imagine their take on things today. Yet again I would like to thank JJ-BASSless for the Rush track minus any bass.
Rush-Vital Signs bass along

After a hard spring day on the ranch I felt I needed to check my Vital Signs and there's no better way than Rush! I have struggled with this song forever... I learned the main riff wrong years ago. I have since corrected myself but old habits are hard to break and fall back into it (just one friggin' note!). I would like to thank JJ-BASSless for the Rush track with the bass line removed... it's...

Closer To The Heart was probably the first Rush song I ever heard as a kid. When I was finally old enough to start buying albums, I bought Exit Stage Left and was suprised to find so many songs I heard growing up from friend's older siblings would be Rush. I would really like to thank JJ-BASSless for the bassless Rush track.... up until 2:24 its all me on bass and keys. After 2:24 I added a liv...

The perfect summer drive with the windows down song! No one like Rush takes you on lyrical journeys. This was one of my inspirational songs from my youth. It brings me back to my days of playing “weekend hobo”, riding freight trains and free of worry… “hopping the turbine freight”! I would really like to thank JJ-BASSless for the work providing this Rush track without the bass line. The bass ...
Rush-Leave That Thing Alone bass along

Holy moly this is HARD! Plenty of mistakes and falling out of the groove. From 00:00 to 03:20 its just me on bass.... no Geddy. I found the stems w/o bass. However, whoever made it cut it off early so from 03:21 on it a bass duet with Geddy & I (he's the one spot on lol). Perhaps I should've "left this one alone..."

I finally did it... after years of loving Tool... I learned this (mostly). I play Rush, Iron Maiden, etc., but Justin Chancellor's approach has admittedly intimidated me a bit. Powerful, precise, staccato notes that just don't sound right if even just a millisecond off. Tool experts go easy on me please!!!😂😎
Jerry Reed-Lightning Rod bass along

From my youth (1977)... Smokey and the Bandit has just been released. I bought Jerry's "Eastbound and Down" album and found the song "Lightning Rod". This eleven year kid was just blown away by Jerry's guitar picking. Fast forward to tonight and I decided to attempt learning it for fun (no band I'm in would ever play this)... I'll probably never play it again after this, but it was a fun challe...

Nice!
Thank you! It was fun jamming this with you, Lindsey, Ian, Sol and Andy last night!
The whole YT may discuss pedals and tones, but once you play like Geddy no words are needed. Love it!
Thank you!
Great! Can I ask what setting, amp, plugin you use to record? Thank you
Thank you. I am using an EBS EultiComp compressor followed by a SansAmp Tech 21 YYZ going straight into a Studio One DAW for recording. When I play live, I use the same set-up along with an Orange 500w Terror Bass Amp.

Finally someone represents what i have been wondering for years!
the signals-grace-power-hyf era was very powerful for me.
@@jeffryb It was for me too, but it took me a decade to connect with HYF & Presto. Never tried playing any of it until now.
Well said in the description, and you do a great job playing it.
@@Farewelltokingz thank you for both, it seems to hit home lately.
That was killer! It's always great watching someone totally get into a song and nailing it.

Amazing cover! So many great tunes on the album. I think Ged would approve!

Great cover! It was really fun watching you nail that!

@@lanepattersonbass4183 im 57. Just got a bass 8 days ago. Never musical ever. Man. My fingers cant stretch, lol, im learning tho. Couldnt play a thing before, now im playing little stuff with my fender play lessons. So its a start! Thanks for doing these bass covers, truly impressive when u start incorporating synth and keeping up with geddy!
That's awesome! Just keep playing, you will be amazed how rewarding it will be. It's frustrating at first, you're brain will learn faster than your fingers, but they will catch up! Trust me.
I love to hear the Rickenbackers sound, it’s the 4001 version, i have them too, perfect bassguitar, thank you for your video, rock on! You have a nice musicstudio, keep on rockin’! Thanks Lane Patterson, thanks! Which wires do you use?
Thank you! I definetly count my blessings. I'm playing through a wireless transmitter. I you mean what strings do I use, they are D'Addario nickel wound XLs.
4 Rickys. Nice playing, but 4 Rickys. Damned.
@@nvjohansson9741 Thank you... it is a bit of an addiction!
Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve been looking for a good cover for a while but most I’ve seen are, well… not great! This will help improve my performance!
@@DRPowell thank you and you're welcome both! I have to admit that this is only about 75% correct and I have added quite a bit of my own since I was trying to cover more than just the bass part in the band I was in (3 piece band). So I wouldn't use this as a guide to how to actually play it correctly.
VERY NICE, loved the bass lines & fills at the end. Another beautiful Rick that sounds just as good!! How many Rick's do you have?
Thank you! I definitely have a Rickenbacker addiction. I currently have six: 4 four strings and 2 five string basses.
You did your thing on this on. #megusta
Thats for sure!😂

There is so much good work right there it just pours through! Thank you Lane. Nice studio too!!!
Thank you!🙏🏻🎸
Nice job man. Now do the solo Geddy does on the live video version. Just kidding.
I need more fingers!
When your hands learn something, it's so hard to change one note!
That is a fact for sure!!
Nice job Lane!!
Thank you!!
Greta job man! Nice home studio.
Thank you! It keeps off of the streets!
What did you turn on, or off with your left foot at 325?
I'm turning off the bass chourus (Boss CE-2B) that I turned on for the bass "solo".
Keep practicing. You'll get it some day.
Every day!
good job. i think if you raised your bass up quite a bit, that you will find you will be faster and alot more flexible with fretting. if you raise it, it will keep your wrist straight and keep the thumb behind the neck. try it and see if you arent a better player
Thank you! Actually used to play with it a bit higher, unfortunately arthritis in my right wrist has required me to lower it a bit. I also use my thumb a lot for muting the E or the A when I'm playing the D or the G to keep sympathetic vibration at bay.
@@lanepattersonbass4183 keep jamming!
