Una città che si affaccia sul mare senza avere neppure una spiaggia cittadina per poterlo godere. Da una parte il porto commerciale ( dove una volta c'erano gli stabilimenti balneari) che almeno dà il lavoro a tante persone, dall altra una zona ben + ampia che in passato ha dato lavoro e crescita ma da almeno 35 anni è un fantasma . Peccato davvero perché il Golfo è molto ben disegnato dalla natura. Purtroppo usato molto male dall'uomo passato e presente. E non dite che ci sono le Cinque Terre, Lerici e Portovenere vicine: almeno che il parcheggio, il caffè, il gelato, il treno e l'ombrellone col lettino lo pagate voi !!

Great match Chris scared Martina into playing very tentativly. This match could easily have gone the other was as could their 88 semi. Two very close 3 setters. Evert challenged Martina most times they played and beat her 37 times more than anyone else.

I think this is one of their highest quality matches ever

how does/did Evert lose 5 games in a row in that 3rd set after being up 2-1 with a break, and all the momentum? bizarre..

Almost every point Bonder wins its off of an unexplained unforced errors by Bonder. While Chris was playing very well in this tournament she preferred a hard hit ball hit to her and Bonder just returns the ball. It’s as if Evert becomes interested when score is close and then she cuts down on her unforced errors. Training to hit a much harder ball that presses her kept Chris more interested and thus fewer unforced errors.

Evert lacked her usual weight of shot. Her ground strokes all of 1983 had no punch. She armed and aimed the ball, pushing it and her balls bounced up high and short letting her opponent to hit cross court shots that sent Chrissie running down balls. She started changing this on her first tourney 1984 with new graphite racket that gave her more depth at indoor championships s Martina in 5he final.

Old school evert was being squeezed to be a better athlete and Chris spent most of 83 in denial before getting her goals in order to put up a fight with Martina. It took all of 83 ( a year of contemplation) and 84( a year of hard work in gym ) to topple Martina in Jan 85 and then win 85 French and 86 French.

When you get to 54 quarterfinals, then 52 semifinals in slams out of 56 entries, I think we can rule out 'luck' as the most important factor. Evert just wins those big big points too often and that record weighs on the minds of her opponents when they play her.
