This is a great way to make these cheap chicken coops more robust. I did identify a potential wear point with the roof tarp abrading against the metal siding as it flaps in the wind. This might be avoided by slipping over a length of 2 inch poly irrigation pipe which you have cut a slot into. You can drill it into place. That would give your wall a soft edge.
I’m inspired by this set up! How do the roof tarps fare in the wind?
@@karenlombardi8242 we haven’t had an issue! They usually last about 2 years for us
Smart ideas
This looks great! We are starting to set our own up and got some great ideas from you all. Thanks for sharing!

Can a kennel gate like this be reinforced to protect from bears?
@@milala-kw4zy I’m not sure, that’s not a problem around us.
What keeps a predator from digging under the run/coop?
We have another fence around & a stray dog that has taken it upon herself to watch all our farm animals & protect them
@@snappfamilyfarms Not mentioned in video.
I want to use half of this as a tractor. Can i do that? Or does the roof running horizontal come in one piece? Ty!
You should be able to! They have smaller sizes available too
I'd put a skirt of fence around it. A lot of critters dig under
Good job. I would put hardware cloth all around it, too. Raccoons and such can reach through those holes. I would also put extra hardware cloth along all the door cracks to keep snakes from coming in.
Great design, Thanks for sharing
I ordered mine with a dome roof, going to use hardware cloth and a bigger tarp, I cant wait! Thanks for the great video! I love how well built this turned out!
Thank you so much!
Hello. That's a great idea for a coop and run. I'd be concerned about the mesh around the entire structure. Sure, it'll keep the chickens in, but it won't keep predators out. I'm using a 10x20 of these as a run and I added a 2ft 1/2in hardware cloth skirt around the edges and 4ft 1/4in hardware cloth around the side and door. Then I added chicken wire on the slopes and then the green mesh all the way around. I'm not 100% if this will keep a desperate animal out, but it will definitely give them a run for their money of trying. Hope your chicks stay safe and thanks for the video.
Thank you for that info! We’ve had our chickens set up like this for about 9 years & don’t seem to have any predators around except hawks thankfully! We’re also putting up more fencing in the area.
I put some pelletized bedding in my chicken run, and my chickens REFUSED to walk on it. After a day most of them finally did except for 3 of my chickens. One even flew into the side of the coop trying to get out to free range. They would get right to the edge of where the pellets and mulch meet and would go no further. 2 chickens would fly out the door and one just flat out refused for 3 days. 😂 now they love it
Ours were like that at first & now they prefer it too!

I love my Lavender Orpingtons! Your chicks are so cute! Hmm, maybe I should expand my coop....
This takes up up to 45 chickens lol!
Beautiful property!
Thank you so much!
Wow! Your blackberry bushes look amazing! I tried to order some thru a local nursery here, but they never got any in. I did transplant some wild blackberry whips from the back of the property to up near the house. I would really like to plant the thornless.
Try Stark Brothers, they have a year guarantee & thornless is a complete game changer! No stickers in your fingers or cuts
@@snappfamilyfarms I will definitely try them. Thanks!
