    A book that I find very helpful in understanding more of the background of the gospels is SITTING AT THE FEET OF RABBI JESUS: How the Jewishness of Jesus Can Transform Your Faith. This is by Ann Spangler and Lois Tverberg. Jesus and his disciples were all Jewish, and devout ones at that. I’m reading through it a secon time and it’s enlightening as to how Jesus’ hearers would have understood Him from the mindset of their Jewish biblical beliefs. It’s amazing how much of Jesus teaching is built around the Old Testament as it was understood in the first century. Well researched and documented.

    Thanks! Great reading list! Here's a good one, highly regarded, beautifully organized and thorough. It's emphasis is on the Greco-Roman world + Judaism. Covers a LOT of ground. "Backgrounds of Early Christianity" by Everett Ferguson. Copyrights 1987, 1993, 2003. 672 pp. Synopsis: Having long served as a standard introduction to the world of the early church, Everett Ferguson's Backgrounds of Early Christianity has been expanded and updated in this third edition. The book explores and unpacks the Roman, Greek, and Jewish political, social, religious, and philosophical backgrounds necessary for a good historical understanding of the New Testament and the early church. New to this edition are revisions of Ferguson's original material, updated bibliographies, and fresh discussions of first-century social life, of Gnosticism, and of the Dead Sea Scrolls and other Jewish literature.

    When a God wants praise in the midst of a persons Pain, Sorrow and troubles. This is exactly what a Narcissist would do. I stopped praying not because I didn't have faith, because it takes faith to pray to an unseen God. I stopped praying when I realized that God had to be hearing my prayers in order to intentionally ignore them with complete indifference, Prejudice and Hostility. Faith means nothing to a Malevolent Narcissist.

    I, too, had never thought of the cost of a letter, how dear it must have been to Paul. It also makes me think of all the trials he suffered and, in the midst of those, how important he thought it was to communicate the gospel and guide the church. We are truly blessed to be able to pick up a bible (or more) and have it in a language accessible to us!

I have a Cultural Background Study Bible and find it distracting. I don't care about the different gods etc. I just know what God says not to worship other gods or idols. Don't waste time on "Biblical Hebrew" which is only a one facet (out of few) of the Hebrew language. Just learn Hebrew. When you have Hebrew you can very easily master the biblical text. On the other hand, if you even master the "Biblical Hebrew", you will not be able to understand modern Hebrew.

      It is your opinion,so don't discourage him or others, because you don't think so,besides biblical hebrew is not useless if you trying to understand Bible better or another sources written in the ancient hebrew, because modern hebrew has lost a few grammatical devices,that are not used in modern hebrew and in transcribing Bible into modern hebrew your comprehension of it will be a little bit disproportional in terms of meaning of particular grammatical syntax in certain words and phrases in text itself and so on.

      @@Ғарыштық You're right' if you want to understand the bible you need to learn the biblical Hebrew. All I said is that if you master modern Hebrew, the biblical way pf expression ("biblical Hebrew") will be very easy for you to understand. Every Israeli child understands the bible language after a very short time of learning, all because he is a native Hebrew speaker

    • @Ғарыштық
      @Ғарыштық 2 месяца назад

      @@ashershaham Yes of course, but for me personally I am not interested in modern hebrew and reasons are simply subjective for instance:I don't like phonetics of modern hebrew,because they are not very variable in sense of sound abilities,which biblical hebrew has and other is that I want strictly to understand the Bible and not to speak with jews in Israel or to know the language simply to read a book or to go to Israel and be able to read signes there.I am more interested in Biblical comprehansion and maybe writing for myself in biblical hebrew just for fun purposes.

      @@Ғарыштық Modern and biblical Hebrew sound exactly the same. It depends on your personal preference and the accent you choose. Like American or British English, very similar but a bit different. However, if you study modern Hebrew, the Bible becomes very easy
