    This is the kind of real content that I have been looking for about starting up. So 37k in honey -15k expenses/150 hives $146 per hive in just honey if you did nothing else. Is that close or am I missing something?

    Great story. I spent 30 or so years in the Tampa Bay Area. Mostly in Citrus Park back before the most of the development of the area. Back when there were orange groves everywhere. I've been beekeeping since 2019 and have about 25 colonies here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Today, I'm extracting honey and over the next few days will be putting those supers back on.

    A little constructive criticism. "umm" makes you sound uncertain. It takes away from your credibility, working on that will improve the quality of your videos massively. Other than that, solid video, keep up the good work!

We beekeepers don't have time for that crap. (And what's sad is this is 4 years later -_-)

    Everyone seem to stress about drawing minni frames. If you use foundation, add a cup or two of bees with a cell, feed syrup, confine bees, then set out in yards a few days later after cells have hatched. You will find bees will draw their combs.

      I use different mite treatments throughout the year. These nucs had recently been treated with oxalic acid. Healthy colonies usually keep the beetles under control but if they get bad I use Swiffer dry mop pads to trap them.

    In another video you replied you will not be using the Pro Nuc, have you figured out how to keep them alive in the Pro Nuc boxes? I currently have lost 2 colonies using the Pro Nucs, but I want to make sure it wasn’t user error. I think I oversees one colony and they left. The second could have died from over heating because I had the vent closed, and Im in south Texas, similar to Florida weather

      I’m just using up the ones I have for nuc sales as a starter and transportation box that the customers keep. I can get away with using them in early spring before it gets too hot here. Come summertime they’re worthless.

    • @time2fly2124
      @time2fly2124 Год назад

      pro nuc boxes are definitely prone to overheating, my first year i did some splits with them, but the summer sun cooked alot of the brood that i gave them. after that, i put a sheet of plywood over top to shield them from the sun.

    Unfortunately the biggest challenge is keeping the bees alive and the hives thriving. I was a small scale bee keeper for 10 years (15 hives) and one bad winter wiped me out. I;m out now as I cant afford the nuc or colony prices to rebuild. The really money these days is in producing bees.

    Not bad for 200 hives. Im looking at going with 200 hives when I move to Asheville this summer and expand to 500 over a few years. There are 4 honey stores in Asheville so I will start there with a website for online sales. I breed queens and will sell nuc's as well. I love making new colonies. You have a good story, how big is your honey house? Spinning honey is a job! I got into bee keeping to give back to the world but fell in love with the bees. Im an x marketing guy so you need to add your web address to every post every where.

      @@Typhus-th6ud Not at all. I do my inspection as normal. I can harvest combe as standard hives do. The best part is you don't need to find some one to spin out the honey. I use a 11lt pail with a couple of hoses on the extraction tubes, turn the key and let it do its thing. So far it's been very easy and no mess..
