Lessons Learnt #publiclandhunting
Hunting is one of the greatest pursuits out there. The variety and magnitude of challenges thrown at oneself is never ending.
In short, overcoming them builds character.
This hunt on New South Wales Public Lands was definitely one of those, especially for my son.

Snowed Out 2021
Просмотров 1272 года назад
Winter of 2021saw ago a long planned Public Land Hunt head south after one of the biggest snowfalls across the New South Wales Ranges in years occurred. With snow down to 900 metres and the country we planned on accessing being well over 1000 metres above sea level, roads were closed with up to three feet of snow and hundreds of trees down. Luckily for Ethan and I some fast scrambling and we we...

After being asked about a few books I posted on IG I decided to add a review of those that I read and enjoy to the channel. I heard about First Casualty on @ClearedHotPodcast when Andy Stumpf had Toby Harnden on a a guest. First Casualty is a superb read if you are into politics, personal commitment, history and more. The book is easily sourced through Booktopia in Australia.

Regular viewers will see that I spent a number of hunts with my son joining me this past season. This has been a amazing experience for both of us. Ethan learning more on how we handle hardship, disappointment, fatigue and that we need to eat properly . And me, on how to encourage and mentor him on the challenges he is presented with each day. Yet, I don't think the last season would have gone ...

We hear it so often, start them young. With so many opportunities to try sports and other pastimes it was time to get my young bloke out amongst it before he found an alternative interest. I have a maven b2 9x45 I loved them I can see through in the dark they are amazing, now I am interested to get long range set of maven b5 for night sky view as well as day use, which one would you recommend either 15x56 or 18x56? I want to get 18s but don’t want to lose quality and clarity through less Exit pupil which could be important for night sky vision, so please help me to chose from these two options 15x56 or 18x56. Thanks.

    when you calculate the area of the objective lens, the 56mm is almost 25sqCM which gives you 50sqCM of light gathering with both tubes; which is almost exactly the same as single 80mm objective lens, which is 50sqCM

    It’s a disgrace what our governments are doing to our power supply. We should have the cheapest and most reliable power in the western world. They won’t be happy until they destroy towns like Singleton and Muswellbrook that revolve around coal and power generation.

    • @huntingarete9214

      There never has been any plan on how to manage the any change, how to achieve it and whether its fair to the citizens. So a#%eholes in Government sold it off. It was never theirs to sell. They were merely custodians. The most unfortunate thing is when the Power Generation worker demonstrated in Macquarie Street in 2006 most passersby thought we were just looking for ourselves; in reality we we knew were privitisation would end. We are seeing it now with highest prices and less reliability.

    Nice work on encouraging people to do their own research. The media put their own political spin on things to push their agenda and people need to see what’s going on. The US media is a prime example of media manipulation they are happy to cover up the Hunter Biden laptop but push the Trump collusion with Russia which turned to be completely false and just a smear campaign.

    It’s good to see two young blokes putting the effort in to give your thoughts on these binos. Your comparison is very useful for me as I am looking to buy a decent set of binos. Nice one. Interested to maybe try some 180 myself. Been using 200gr eldx in My Sauer classic 101 300wm. Using ADI 2225 but not achieving the best results. So might try mixing it up with different powder like the 2217.

    • @huntingarete9214
      @huntingarete9214 3 года назад

      Could be the ticket Jimmy. It seems some of the 300WM just weren't really designed to take advantage of the heavy modern bullets. And this was the case with the Montana. I'd reckon you haven't got anything to loose by trying 2217 and 180 grainers , especially if it turns into tighter groups.

    How do you like the maven? Had a leupold vx3i on my tikka. Really liked the clarity but poi shifted 3 inches from antelope to deer season. Just couldn’t trust it if I have a buck of a life time in front of me in the future. Sold it and just got a maven sr.2 with the SHR reticle. Haven’t mounted it yet but seems pretty crisp thus far.

    • @huntingarete9214
      @huntingarete9214 3 года назад

      BB the clarity of the optics , the design of the SHR and the accuracy of the turrets on the MAVEN RS-1 is right up there. The only concern I have is with the non-locking BDC Turret, which I haven't yet fitted to Ms Montana. I have fitted the BDC turret to my other RS-1 on my other rifle. Overall I am very impressed with the RS-1 and love using it.

    • @huntingarete9214
      @huntingarete9214 3 года назад

      Max, we didn't have a set of the Swaro SLC 15X56 to directly compare performance. But the Mavens were certainly right up there amongst the top Euro glass. As Nathan and I say in the second video there are a few other factors to consider than just the performance of the glass. And what I see through one model may not be what you see. When I select new optics I will drill down to the top three or four models that suit my needs and assess where I can the differences, what I like and don't like. Then make a decision. Thanks for the interest.

    • @huntingarete9214
      @huntingarete9214 3 года назад

      I think you could but they would be a handful to use efficiently and smoothly. If you intended to use them primarily on a tripod I would suggest some hand held use is acceptable. But if you were looking to purchase these as primarily hand held binos I would suggest looking at a smaller pair, say the 9X45s or 10 or 12X50s. I hope that helps.

    Great video Dave they were baiting when we went out last week. They pay a bounty here for fox scalps and complete wild dog furs. $10 per fox $120 per wild dog. I guess the people not allowing it have never run into 1 wild dog if they are lucky its only one while out bush. Things can be vicious.

    • @huntingarete9214
      @huntingarete9214 3 года назад

      KTEDC yep its a pity there isn't a bounty in NSW. Likely a blinkered view of the authorites that are yet to be convinced of the vital role Hunters play in the control of Wild Dogs.

    Slow down to noisy and get rid of them gaiters they’re noisy as try a different brand

    • @huntingarete9214
      @huntingarete9214 3 года назад

      Luke what you see in the video is not the entire hunt. Stalking into that area took over an hour to go little more than 400 metres. The gaiters aren't the noise. Its the boots. And the amplifier on the camera is incredibly sensitive especially when combined with the quality microphones many of us run on these cameras. What I didn't capture on video was that I was initially less than 50 metres from the boar when I first spotted him. Till he started to suspect someone was about, when directly downwind of me and catching a bit of scent, he had no idea I was there. And in that few minutes no shot was presented. Noise is something I am always looking to lessen as should every hunter. Thanks for the advice.
