    How did u get 5m on the first example if u subtract m for each side

      I know this is 3 yrs late: In the first example: -4(M+8) < 28 + M. First you expand the left side to as follows: -4M -32 < 28 + M. To get rid of the M on the right hand side, you subtract M from both sides of the inequality: -4M - M - 32 < 28. which is same as -5M - 32 < 28 . Now we can Move the 32 to the right side by add +32 on both sides: -5M < 60. Divide both sides by -5 and flip the Inequality sign to give you M > -12
