I'm sure I made a few rules mistakes during this video, but I had a lot of fun in this playthrough and got out of some really tough spots so I wanted to post it. In this playthrough I had swapped Black Widow in for Rockslide and Spycraft in for Counter Intelligence to help deal with some of Ronan's difficult cards. It didn't end up being necessary for the win, and in the majority of scenarios I don't recommend those two cards over the deck list you see here. I don't actually recommend playing Adam Warlock against Ronan at all unless you are just looking for a challenge. The villains from the Mad Titan's Shadow campaign are a blas...

How I Build Decks in Marvel Champions
Good stuff!
@@Aplexity thanks :) I’m glad people still find this video
Can you use wild resources to satisfy specific resource requirements? (I thought you couldn't)
Nice gameplay, love how u explain every single step!
Thanks! I thought it would be useful seeing someone go through a full campaign setup and seeing my thought process for how I choose what card to play. Glad you liked it!
Man I wish I had this much time on my hands to do this. Darn kids 😅
@@Nodnarb518 ya I don’t have kids yet
Nice combo for Adam Warlock & Spider-Woman: 'Agent Coulson' & 'Rapid Response'. Bring Agent Coulson into play (Inc. with Summoning Spell for AW) & Coulson will search (deck & discard) for 'Rapid Response' to hand. Play it. Agent Coulson can do some thwarting and when desired, he can 'chump-block' with RR putting him back into play and him returning the favour by putting RR into your hand. From here you just play RR for 2ER (it entered your hand for free) and you get 2Thw from Coulson & a chump-block every turn - for 2ER! You also have permanent access to a 'Spy' if you want to play with 'Spycraft' etc. It can't hurt to run 'Team Training' (usable with other allies too) to avoid 'boost spam' from Exp2 and some villains. I'm still a big fan of bringing 'Target Acquired'...
That's a great idea! Switching one of the leadership allies for Rapid Response sounds so good. I wish I had thought of that before posting the deck lol
@@DaringLime Coulson/Rapid Response is classic combo from Wave 2! Very surprised you discovered it today! Anyway, good game despite the misplay. I played Ronan only twice, and it was in Standard, and it was awful. I really think this is the "dumbest" encouter set of them all. Nebula is crazy, but she has a game design mechanics. Not well balanced, but that is another subject. Collector I has a toxic gimmick in expert. But he has a gimmick, and pretty manageable in Standard II But Ronan? The guy has five activations, and an attachement x2 that you can't interact with it, and it give everything; piercing, overkill + 1ATK. His mod set is fine, I use it a lot, but Ronan? He has nothing, no game design whatsoever. I play VG expert from time to time, I play Magneto from time to time. I even play Loki in campaign mode. But Ronan? Even in Standard I would not play it. No work behind this boss. Just tones of activation, and extra encounter card. I respect a lot the game designers of this game, even when they fail. We are humans we all fail. But this boss is not a failure. They just did not try. A challenge need to be design, otherwise, I will just roll a 8 sided dice, and see if I win on a 7. That's lazy game design. End of rant. Good game for enduring this guy.
@@alberttaco3668 I might be late to the party with Coulson + Rapid Response, but you gotta remember I went backwards lol. I went skipped wave 2, got MTS as my first campaign box, then spiders, then mutants, then played guardians, and very last I did red skull lol. I think my deck still works good without it. I would have to swatch Vision, Beast, Falcon, or Power of Leadership to fit it in. It would probably be scenario specific when I do that. For Ronan I think he's a good candidate because when he hits for 8+ every turn you need to block with an ally every single time. I would probably swap vision in this case. I initially was surprised at how difficult Ronan was and I didn't go back to him for a while. Lately I've been enjoying him a lot more. I understand why you're frustrated, but I wouldn't say the designers didn't try to make him fun. I think it was maybe an overcompensation to the feedback they got of Rise of Redskull being too easy, but I really don't know. I wasn't around at this point of the game's life cycle.
I think you made a mistake 14:37 when you attack Iron Fist it is for 2 and you apply a stunn and not as you did you attack for 1 then apply a stunn and attack for 2
I don't think I made a mistake with that. Iron Fist reads: "Response: When Iron Fist attacks an enemy, remove 1 mystic counter from him → stun that enemy and deal 1 damage to it." When in Marvel champions happens before its trigger fully resolves. So you remove the mystic counter, stun the enemy and deal 1 damage to it, then you deal 2 damage with his ATK. I could be wrong though, that's just how I've been playing it. If you see something in the rules reference to the contrary let me know and I'll adjust how I use him in the future.
@@DaringLime Indeed you are right I looked up the information and it is as you did taking one marker inflicts 1 attack overlays stunn and then attacks with its attack for 2
@ cool. I’m often wrong even when I think I’m right though lol
Very good game and campaign. Still my favorite campaign, but I don't own AoA yet. But every other campaign has some kind of flaws, minor or major, but this one is perfect. Not overly difficult, like GMW. Not too easy such as Red Skull which I like, or Next Evolution, which I did only once, so no real opinion here. Not grannular, like Sinister Motive. It is a cool campaign, but too many stuff to track on, like you are on a D&D rpg campaign. And VG is evil lol. Mutant Genesis feels almost as good as MTS, but you have to tech a bit against it, and you can be unlucky with Future past card or Magneto. So yeah MTS is perfect to me. Very easy to setup, track. Every scenarios are fun, even Hela or Tower Defense because of the "added" objective, and Loki/Thanos feel less grindy than standalone. Ebony Maw? Campaign or not, is still in my top 3 fav villain of the whole game. I just give him steady, and street of mahyem on top of any mod set I want, and the guy provide 100% fun: win or lose. See ya for your next Battle Mage fight 😎
Thanks for checking out the video! I feel very similarly to you about MTS. It does the best at having a simple campaign that adds a ton of value to the experience. I still prefer sinister motives in some ways. But MTS is the best in my opinion for creating the best experience out of the least complexity. Ebony Maw is an amazing villain. For some reason every Ebony Maw gameplay video I post gets way more views than the other gameplays. Seems like a lot of people think he's cool! Hope you enjoy the Ronan fight!
@@DaringLime Alright, I give you a challenge to test your Adam Warlock deck. Feel free to try it or not, I already provided it to SoloMarvelChampions, and ReyReyPlaysGames. Both told me they would do it, but monthes past, and no news. So I try a new youtuber. Ebony Maw with Standard I and Expert II mod sets. Formidable Foe is on the Expert side, so he's steady, and he has a free acceleration icon. If you feel it is too challenging, keep Formidable Foe on Standard side so, no extra icon, just the Steady status. I recommend using the default mod sets, for Ebony Maw, which are manageable, but you can increase the difficulty by replacing Armies of Titan by a stronger minion pack. This challenge is doable, I did it several time, and it is a solid deck tester. Feel free to not do it. That is your time after all, and your enjoyment should come first. :p
@@alberttaco3668 That sounds like something I'd like to do! I was already thinking about buffing up ebony maw somehow either with heroic, standard 2, or hard mods or something, so this sounds perfect!
Can't thwart main scheme at 4:50 because "Patrol" minion
Good catch. With the updated rules on patrol allies can't thwart when there is a patrol minion out. Thanks for pointing it out!
A cool thing about warlock though is his battlemage can remove threat while patrol is out, unfortunately that's not what I did at 4:50 though lol
Really enjoyed the video! Don't worry about any gameplay mistakes, it happens and you fix the game state as much as you can. Last night I did a game against expert Venom Goblin and forgot to shuffle the rest of my nemesis cards into the encounter deck after Shadows of the Past. I already played through the Villian phase and was on my turn when I realized the error. I guess that could have affected my game but I didn't sweat it. I won a turn after that and still enjoyed my game. One of my favorite things about MC Solo games is that the number one rule for me is always to have fun. I try to follow rules to the best of my ability and always look things up when I'm unsure of something. Unless you're intentionally cheating, mistakes are fine. I've been taking Captain America with me through all the villains I've opened and I ALWAYS forget his retaliate from the Shield every so often. Love the content and keep it up!
I totally agree! When I'm playing off stream I don't sweat rules mistakes at all, I just move on. I just feel pressure sometimes as a youtuber to do everything perfect, even though I inevitably forget things. Thank you for the support :)
@@DaringLime I totally understand wanting to avoid errors while filming. I'm planning on uploading my games onto RUclips in the near future, just to have a fun way to document my progress with the game and will almost certainly be nervous about making numerous ruling mistakes. Even if no one watches my video I can see myself still wanting to play as accurately as I can. Thanks again for playing Adam Warlock, I haven't opened my Mad Titan's Shadow expansion, but seeing this hero utilize everything the game has to offer is always really fun!
@@Jimbonusonza I'll tune into your channel once you get started! MTS was my first expansion and Adam Warlock was my first hero that I played frequently, and my favorite for the longest time. He taught me deck building.
Very cool run. I really like Campaign Hela. While not really more difficult than regular Hela, I think the dynamic of finding the Stones and unleashing Odin to his final form, makes it all the more enjoyable, and setting up the huge battle against Loki, which is, IMO, much more fun than standalone Loki. The reason is, you will have Odin and the captive ally, + the nurn stones and Shawarma to take him down much faster than in standalone. I feel people complaining about Loki being too long, is because they never tried the campaign. Just my feeling ofc.
I totally agree that campaign mode is more fun for MTS than standalone. Every scenario becomes a lot more fun in my opinion. I think that allies and Norn stone are really cool, and carrying odin over and getting rewarded for rescuing him and finding his armor is great!
Maybe I'm wrong but I feel you misplayed cosmic ward. If Ronan has two fanatism attacked to him, you remove one counter from each, everytime he attack once, right? So for the same reason/logic, if you have two cosmic ward in play, both of them trigger and get discarded, right? This is what I feel about this card ruling, you can have two out, but you should really never have more than one in play, because of the forced interrupt timing. Tell me if I'm wrong, please. 👌
I hadn't thought about that before. I looked into it a bit. In Rules Reference 1.6 it says: "Each forced ability must resolve as completely as possible before the next forced ability being triggered by the same triggering condition may initiate." The key here is that it must resolve as completely as possible before the next one may initiate. That's an interesting point about Fanaticism though. Fanaticism says: "When Ronan the Accuser attacks you, that attack gains overkill and piercing. At the end of that attack, remove 1 fury counter from here." So in this case, (even if you assume you can give an attack overkill and piercing twice) there is still a target for the 2nd Fanaticism-The fury counter-so it will still remove the counter. Cosmic Ward says: "Forced Interrupt: When you reveal a treachery card, cancel its "When Revealed" effects and discard it. Then, discard Cosmic Ward." So if we resolve that fully, there is no when revealed effect to cancel, or treachery to discard. It is not exactly the same as Fanaticism though. Cosmic ward says "Then, discard Cosmic Ward." If you look up "Then" you'll find "If the pre-”then” text of an effect does not fully resolve, the post-”then” text does not attempt to resolve." So in this case, the pre-"then" text is not fully true, so the second sentence will not attempt to initiate. I think this means that the next Cosmic Ward no longer has a valid target, and therefore can't initiate (Similar to the she hulk stun ruling). This was a really interesting rules question! Often things like this can work against the player, but in this case I think it is actually in our favor and you are allowed to use 2 copies of Cosmic Ward. Also, I would guess that the design intent was for you to be able to, or else they would have added Max 1.
@@DaringLime You are very correct. The "then" means the sentence triggers only if the sentence prior to "then" fully resolved. So yeah, you can put 2 cosmic ward safely! Thank you very much for the research. 🙏
@@alberttaco3668 No problem! I appreciate you asking the question. I wouldn't have learned that had you not mentioned it. I just always assumed you could have two without ever finding in the rules if I actually could or not.
I’ve been having fun with Iceman since Children of the Atom gives the Domino ally the X-men trait. Guaranteeing that your cryokinetic perception hits feels really good.
Ya that sounds like a great way of improving the consistency! I will go back to iceman at some point and give him another shot.
Wow, finally got through this beast of a video. Great discussion all around. Very entertaining as well! I loved that you both shared your favorite decks and discussed how they could be tweaked/improved.
@@DMTip I wasn’t expecting c it to be so long we just kept having more to talk about lol. I’m glad you liked that section. We didn’t have it planned to talk about it in that format until until we were recording.
I have very similar Cyclops to Lime...I had 'Not my Responsibility'. It's like another get 'Get Rage-y' in that the ally can often block a scheme activation or even an 'Auto-Step1-with accelerate/s'
@@shanepheeney9029 I’m Glad you came up with a similar idea. That is one of my favorite decks I’ve made.
Another fun game, thanks! So, what are you final thoughts on AW and this deck, do you prefer this version or the Hela one?
@@brucehenderson-dm2qh I prefer the hela one. I’m still considering some changes. I’m gonna take it up against some difficult villains before I post it and do a write up.
Shadows of the Past...sure can be "great" to see sometimes. Especially if your 'Spider-Woman'...sure Villain, have some crud!
@@shanepheeney9029 thanks for giving me a bit of sanity lol
15:03 that attachment requires you to exhaust your hero in addition to paying the resources. Under Attack is such a mean modular…
@@koroviev8897 I forget that sometimes. Good catch! I often make a few rules mistakes in a game.
@ sometimes it is a lot. Specially against Ultron.
@ ya there’s a lot of moving parts.
Nice game! The deck might have been a little bit ally-heavy this time, making it a tad less efficient, though AW certainly had the economy to be profligate in paying for allies.
@@brucehenderson-dm2qh part of it though is I have so many allies because I want to be able to loop summoning spell on the first deck pass without worrying about discarding a bunch of cards and losing my upgrades. A couple more events could be good though. Do you have any suggestions for which allies to swap for which events?
I totally agree about multiplayer. When I do deck testing, I always play two-handed solo. So many of the Hero Ratings are strictly for solo. My Spider Man Protection deck is amazing for the team. He can almost always defend or block for two heroes. That frees up other players to do more, and we worry less about threat because no one needs to flip as often. No one is calculating the value of how much thwart is equal to just staying in hero form. It's weird to say, but Protection ==> Protects heroes ==> Keeps them in hero form ==> Prevents villain scheming ==> Reduces threat... Plus it gives the other heroes extra actions, because they don't need to recover. This is why Protection and Aggression pair so well --you don't need as much Justice.
Everything you said makes sense to me. I do actually think about how much that’s worth. The way I see it flipping down gets you an extra card and a new ability that is also worth about a card. You have to recover, so you lose out on a basic thwart. So it comes out to saving the difference between a scheme activation which is about 4-5 threat, compared to losing out on a basic activation but getting about 2 cards. Having a protection hero around in multiplayer is useful. Spider-Ham seems especially good with his cartoon physics. I do think there is a trap though where everyone stays in hero form to stop the villain from scheming. In my opinion, in 3-4 player games it is usually optimal for 1 player to be in alter ego each turn. Many heroes get crazy amounts of value from doing that. Thanks for the comment :)
@@DaringLime Great breakdown. I love that you really analyze the value of Hero vs Alter Ego. Some heroes AE is worth more. Early on, I really did not like She Hulk, and now she's one of my favorites in Justice, flipping every round.
@ that’s interesting. I do think she hulk is strongest when flipping. And I like flipping, but she still hasn’t clicked with me. It’s a bit sad for me because I want to like her lol
@@DaringLime I did do some Home Rules with her to make her more fun for the gaming table. 1. Gamma Slam is an upgrade placed out on setup (still costs 4). Then if you use it, it goes out of play (like Valkyrie's Death Glow). 2 Legal Practice --if you discard all 5 cards to max it out, you replace Gamma Slam. Makes both of those cards way more fun, and makes She Hulk more fun.
@@josephgerman2674 That does sound like a lot of fun! That's really creative :)
Adam Warlock: Opening Hand ==> Quantum Magic and trash. Hard Mulligan ==> Quantum Magic and trash. Next hand ==> Summoning Spell discards 5 upgrades... His deck NEVER works. QM needs to be an upgrade, not an event. I've won games with Adam. I've never had a single fun game with Adam, because he absolutely handicaps himself every game. Now I don't play any of his discard powers until he gets his upgrades out. Takes forever. He's a much slower build than even Iron Man. Such a hot mess. After I played Bishop, he actually worked fine, and I really thought he was an apology for Adam.
I'm sorry you've had a bad experience with him. I really like him though and have found him to be pretty strong. I have a series on my channel defeating the entire mad titan's shadow campaign in solo on expert mode without losing a single game or being in trouble for the whole campaign. I built my deck to mitigate the problems you are mentioning. I hope it helps! And if not, that's okay. Not everyone has to like every hero.
@@DaringLime Well, I have friends who love Adam, but hate his deck, so I did another round of house-rules. 1. Quantum Magic is a discardable upgrade. That's fixed. 2. I added to the staff: Alter Ego Action: discard a basic aspect card to place 1 card from the discard pile on top of your deck. This is like the way Battle Mage works, but you have to flip. It's super helpful, but not as good as Quantum Magic. 3. (We don't always play with 3) I added to Warlock's Cape: If you discard more than 3 cards from playing an event, shuffle one of those cards back into your deck. These just give you more chances to get some control over the discard pile ==> Adam no longer randomly handicaps himself by discarding an important upgrade. Instead, he randomly slows himself down, but is able to recover. 4. (everyone loves this) Cosmic Entities cost 1 per player, and activate once per player. This is way more thematic. Some people think this makes him OP, but I don't mind him being like another Dr Strange. Also, I make his deck 50 cards to mitigate some of this.
@@josephgerman2674 I do like 50 card adam warlock decks. It's really fun! With the deck I built for him recently I made sure to include 5 cards from each aspect because I never want to have a turn where I can't trigger battle mage. I like that you make house rules to make the game more fun! I think that is a big advantage that board games have over video games.
After purchasing the core box and Nightcrawler this evening i have watched multiple YT videos today and this is by far the most informative. Great work. Oh i also picked up the 200 sleeves you recommended
That's so great to hear! I'm glad you are getting into the game and liked the video :)
1st off: gotta say (even though only half way through so far), Great chatting & discussion guys. Love it! Yay, I think I fixed my issue with internet & malfunctioning speakers (been offline lately)...1st up viewing, this 🤩 As a mostly multiplayer (typically using 'at least 1' of Std2/Exp2) but still get in those Solo games. I like playing the MPer games more - gets some social time with my friends too. I'm mostly a MCDB storage unit for my decks. Seldom go view (sometimes if personal health is low, and not up to anything else) others' decks. Rare comment - I think I may be a little blunt sometimes - though I believe sometimes it was warranted. If you use a "MP" tag with a Leadership deck with no Team constraints nor theme etc and don't have Maria Hill in it and you have specifically excluded using a 'sideboard' for her...sorry, remove the tag or redo the deck imo! I do need to also reinforce that there is much more control of the tight situation in solo vs multiplayer, but multiplayer has more room to absorb the greater (escalating per per player) chaos being thrown at you. Most SS have less scheme points and thus much more reliable to clear in solo etc (not all players 'deck design' & 'deck pilot' at same levels). In Solo, you can play a PSS and tell yourself, clear it immediately, but in the higher counts, you often can't rely on that getting cleared. So, both design & play has to be different. Love me some 'Venom' in Star-Lord! My quote(to friend who played my deck): "Venom should never survive to generate a 2nd Enc card!". Activate...innate as much as possible until 2 HP left (3 uses = perfect to align with Helmet max too?)...activate...block! Love the comparisons in Jubz/MsMarvel...low stats & 'resource'??? Yeah - Overwatch / PP ally...gotta observe those "game terms" LOL "Resource theory"...I'll have to catch that later, but look forward to it...gotta go for now...but 1st thoughts are "output return for (ER) investment" and yeah 'Reliable Doubles' can somewhat skew that too.
I'm glad you're back online! I like reading your comments. You point out some important distinctions between solo and multiplayer. They are VERY different. Especially side schemes-both villain and player-get much more difficult in multiplayer. The benefit of player side schemes increases in multiplayer, but often I don't find it makes up for the additional resources required to thwart it. Maybe when I post the final version of my Adam Warlock deck I'm working on you'll get to see it on MCDB :) It's great to hear that you're feeling better, and I hope your good health continues!
On side note, I do feel that Full Body charge is such a well designed card. Yes it is overcosted for what it does, but in the end, Heroes that lack damage can afford it, such as Nova, Captain Marvel, or Warlock, because they have great economy. This is why the card is not ubiquitous, but still very playable, if not required.
I totally agree! It isn't optimal on everyone, but it feels so good when you are playing a hero that can afford it.
Very cool run, but keep in mind you were a bit lucky with your cosmic ward sitting on the board for the whole game. That mean you had very few extra activations, especially overkill one that you noticed. I still think you would have done fine if they occurs, with all those soul world counters, and your deck is/feel pretty solid. Thanos just did not a good job at really testing it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing your gameplay or your deckbuilding, I'm just saying that this was not the most epic run it could have been. Good game, and see you for next chapter: Campaign hela :p
I see what your saying about Adam Warlock being good against Thanos because of Soul World and Cosmic Ward. I still don't think he is very difficult though. Anyone that plays allies is very unlikely to die to Thanos in 1 turn. And with both main schemes having 12 per player threat, it is unlikely to lose to threat either. His encounter deck is just really easy in my opinion, and as soon as you figure out how to deal with a villain that has high base stats, he doesn't do much. The standard set is harder. When I list out cards that are easier than the standard set it is most of his deck: 2x The Mad Titan: which just puts a stone in play, which 2x "I Am Inevitable": Just a facedown boost card. 2x Deviant Syndrome: Just 1 threat on the main scheme and a tough status card which most of the time doesn't matter, and worst case scenario it is 3 threat on the main scheme which is significantly easier than advance. 1x Thanos's Helmet: You can just completely ignore this until you either have the resources or have burst damage like I did in the game. 1x Thanos's Armor: Also can be completely ignored until it is convenient to deal with. 1x The Titan's Throne: the amplify is bad, but when defeated you get to discard a stone, and it only has 2 per player threat which is really easy. The only cards in his deck that I think are worse than some of the standard set are: 2x Master Of The Stones: +1 +1 for one activation adds an infinity stone. Roughly equivalent to a standard set card. 2x Avatar of Death: Worse than Assault and gang up because of overkill, but isn't a game ending card unless you are already low health which is rare because the rest of his cards don't do much. It's possible that I'm missing something, but to me it seems like he is a stat stick that has the gauntlet, which I don't think makes him comparable to other villains that are considered difficult. For instance, I think he is easier than every scenario in the mutant campaigns. The infinity gauntlet +4 semi difficult encounter cards doesn't seem that bad to me. I'd be curious to see your thoughts, I don't mean this to sound confrontational, I just wanted to explain why I felt that way and see what you thought.
@@DaringLime I think I agree on everything you said, about him being huge beat stick with tones of health/armor, but no trick to really corner you in his kit. Even the gauntlet/stone is just a way to slow you down more than traping you, and a huge stat boost to make him even more monolitical. I think what can turn Thanos into a more epic run that you get are the following: -The children of Thanos boost effect can combo with an Infinity stun "discard a support or ally" as a boost, and infinity stone says "discard ally or support or upgrade". -Super giant spawned through Space Stone, which is a double strike, one from the quickstrike, and one from the regular mook activation, and both stun -Overkill activation in the 5 few turns -Children of Thanos Side scheme with Crisis Icon + when defeated get extra encounter card. Crisis make it hard to ignore and extra encounter card early can mess up your setup. These are the 4 combos that he can achieve, and since we played mostly two players, he consistently pull one of them on average when we played against him. You get none of them, and that make sense from a statistical point of view, solo does not dig the deck fast enough for him. So yeah, in the end I put Thanos in the challenging but fair. Like Venom from Sinister motive but less slippery/shaddy than him. And while I think MG villains are mostly Stronger than him, except Master Mold I think, I would say that we do play with a 6 allies limit per deck, which make chump blocking rarer/less efficient, and make Project Wide Awake on par with Thanos, if you follow this logic.
@@alberttaco3668 I think that makes sense. Thanos can combo sometimes, especially in multiplayer. I think that without a perfect defense protection player and having that 6 ally limit thanos is about on par with project wideawake. I actually think it is a lot more fun to play with 6 or less allies. I have a lot more fun when I am struggling a bit and trying to figure out how to go alter ego without losing. That's partly why I had so much fun during my progression series with the precon decks. It's more fun having less allies in many cases.
Great game! Really enjoyed watching it! You piloted AW really well, showing off his versatility, even when bringing a stun/confuse-lock deck to a stalwart villain fight! Hope to see the rest of the campaign soon!
@@brucehenderson-dm2qh I was away at my parents house the last 2 weeks for Christmas. The pace of the videos will increase when kids get back home today. I actually filmed the entire campaign in two sittings before I left. I just made a rules mistake with Hela that made me not want to post it so I slowed down the release schedule so that I can film it again tomorrow. I remembered her plus hp for side schemes in the victory display, but forgot her +1 ATK/THW. I don’t think it mattered because she was stunned or confused or I blocked with an ally almost every time. But it’s too embarrassing for me to post lol. Thanks for saying I piloted Adam well! He was my favorite hero for the longest time when I started playing so it has been super fun for me to come back to him :)
Dum Dum Dugan is great with Field Agents. Field Agents are underrated in my opinion. You get more activations for Agent 13, Quake (ATK2), Agent Coulson (THW2). Dum Dum Dugan turns into an ultimate finisher with 6 damage every turn for 0 or 1 consequential damage. Also, Government Liaison doesn't have Max 1 per player limit, so you can have all 3 of them on the table (2 is enough though) and use them to spawn Field Agents and other cards. These and Surveillance Teams became main sources of Sky-Destroyer triggers and fuel for Dum Dum Dugan and Homeland Intervention for me.
@@Fckrsns that makes sense to me. I like all of the combos you mentioned. Next time I play SHIELD I’ll give Field Agent another shot! I think the thing that bothered me about Field Agent when I tried it is that I often use my allies to block and it feels low tempo. I don’t like to block with agent 13 though. Readying up helicarrier is just so powerful that she is better to keep around than block with. Dum Dim Dugan I think would be really fun to keep around like you were saying and swing for huge amounts of damage multiple times. Another thing though is that when I was playing SHIELD last times, I was in solo. It seems like in higher player counts it would be a lot more valuable, especially with a protection player. I’ll give it another shot and let you know how it goes! :)
@@DaringLime I've played SHIELD in 2-handed solo with another hero in protection, so my experience might be biased :)
@ I think shield agent is viable in solo for sure! And I’m also biased lol. Everyone is biased toward their own experience. That’s funny that you played it in 2 handed with a protection player. Smart move :)
Best buyers guide I’ve seen yet! Can’t agree more about going web warrior route!
@@Bogrin thank you for the high praises :) I’m glad you agree with the web warriors. It’s my favorite by far.
I just got the core box and have been enjoying playing spider man vs rhino. Next is expert mode. From there do you suggest trying a different hero or a different villain?
@@YTZack408 I would personally recommend 2 player or 2 handed on standard. And just face all the villains a couple times with different hero combinations using the precons to find which heroes you like the most. Then move on to deck building and expert.
What a great discussion! I've been watching this here and there over a few days, and I'm about an hour 40 in, but I wanted to mention I relate to your deck building journey quite a bit, though I only just started my own channel. For a couple of years, I only used MarvelCDB to save my own decks, and I still don't go on there to use others' decks. I have used other content creators' builds as inspiration for my own here and there to stretch myself into new possibilities, and I only started publishing my decks publicly again recently when I tried to create some beginner decks for a 4-pack challenge I took on, which I noticed that andyr mentioned!
Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you’re enjoying the decision. It’s a long one! I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels that way about MarvelCDB. I think that not using it was integral to learning how to deck build for me. I’ll go check out your channel!
@@DaringLime Yes, I think the same is true for me when learning to build decks. And thanks!
@@DaringLime I think some people prefer to learn by first mimicking others, while others want enjoy the creative process more and want to do it on their own from the very beginning. As a math teacher, I find the same to be true of my math students. Most want to just follow what someone else is doing, while a small percentage want to think through the problems on their own and figure them out themselves.
@ no problem!
@ that’s really cool that you’re a math teacher. I love math. I got my undergrad in physics and I’m in grad school now doing research on batteries.
Please know that I pay more attention to your deckbuilding videos than some of my classes in college. LOL 😂
@@krittapastt.95 that makes me feel good lol. I also sometimes pay more attention to videos than school lol
How do you feel about building a deck that’s all basic? I feel like there is enough good stuff to do it now!
I have a video on my channel talking about basic. Short answer, yes. Basic is extremely powerful.
@ nice! I’ll check it out for sure and would love to see a video of you building a basic deck!
I’ve now watched it and you basically did build a basic deck! Very cool haha
@ I’ll do that at some point!
@ thanks:) glad you liked it!
It looks weirdly similar to another channels video. 😂 You do great work.
Thank you!
Ally cards are definitely the most overpowered just by the sheer value you get from them.
I think that's true. The ability to thwart, attack, and block solves all of the core struggles in the game.
"finding your voice as a deckbuilder" is a very philosophical way of looking at it.
@@JohnCollinsIsAWizard indeed
Yes, I never thought about that way previously even though I recognize that my style is different than what I typically see shown from all the other content creators.
@ I think it’s really cool that everyone builds decks a bit differently.
For #7 do you still apply spiderman's 3 defense?
No. You only apply your DEF stat on a basic defense, or if a card tells you to. It's convoluted.
Hi! I am coming back to Champions after selling my whole collection. I like you recommendations since I don’t want to get The Red Skull box again, since I already played that one a lot before. However, I have a question. Sinister Motives comes with Protection and Justice player cards, and SP/DR and Spider Ham also come with Protection and Justice precons. Don’t you think it might be a “problem” getting so many cards of just 2 aspects?
I think that depends on your perspective. If you don't like Justice and Protection and don't enjoy the web warrior archetype that comes in basic, then I imagine that would be a problem. This video was specifically just my preference though, and for me, I like the web warrior basic package, and I really like the S.H.I.E.L.D. archetype that comes with Justice and basic. So I would be very satisfied with that. And having a complete S.H.I.E.L.D. and web-warrior archetype for me outweighs not getting a leadership or aggression pack. Another factor in this, is that I don't think the corebox cards are as incomplete as other people do. For instance, with just the core box cards I was able to defeat every villain on expert mode. And I was even able to use Iron-Man in solo to defeat Ultron on Expert with the Doomsday Chair modular. I find all of the aspects to be viable with the exception of protection in solo can be a bit rough with only the core box. So out of all the aspects to "fix", getting extra protection cards seems like the most valuable investment to me. The SP//dr pack comes with repurpose, energy barrier, and forcefield generator which is game changing for protection and especially iron man! And clarity of purpose also comes in the back of the SP//dr pack, which is a great card for leadership. I hope this explains a bit more of why I think the web-warriors would be what I would get if I were to redo it. But also, it's just my opinion. Thanks for the question, and I'm glad you are getting back into the game! :)
@ I do love protection and Spider people. Justice is just whatever. I get what you are saying. I have been playing just the Core Set for a while know, and it really surprised how robust it is. I even think that with another IP (one less prone to raise expectations infinite expansions) it would be considered a great game by itself! On my last time with the game I went straight to expansions because of the influence of internet wisdom (😅) and I now see I missed a lot. Anyway, I am sold. I’ll order SM and the other spiders right away. See you around :)
@ that’s awesome! Let me know how it goes :)
Very good piloting despite unlucky draw/shuffle. And you spawn Black Swan way too soon lol. As you said, stun and confuse won't help you that much for next three villains! Thanos next, this is where the troubles begin!
That video will be going up soon! Thanks for staying tuned into the saga
I realize this video is half a year old, but this is a great summary of a number of helpful rules' clarifications! I'll want to remember this video next time I know someone is just starting out and has played a few times and is ready to figure out some of those extra details that can really help. Thanks!
@@MCDeckDiscussions-n5n that’s so great to hear! I’m glad you liked it and will recommend it :)
MTS is my favorite campaign so far. It improves every villain, especially Hela with more pressure on setup, and also Loki which is less grindy than in standalone thanks to campaign allies. Ebony Maw is an extremly fun and customizable scenario IMO, but I think you misplay the treachery that remove spell counter at the end. You remove a counter from a spell, the spell trigger/is discarded, then you mill card from the encounter deck to fish for a new one, because you had no spell after removing the counter at that point! Anyway, great video, can't wait to see the full campaign. Adam Warlock is very tricky to play, and I like his playstyle!
@@alberttaco3668 good catch. You’re probably correct about that rule. I also really like MTS. It holds a special place for me.
