i do it on my router directly that way it associates the mac address of the host with a specific ip address, and then i setup dynamic dns and port forwarding to open up my server to the internet, for example for ssh ftp or http/https connection ...

this is what I needed, thank you. I often lose electricity and the dhcp settings on the router are reset, this helps if the virtual machine is running in a bridge network.

Could you please elaborate about Wordpress ditching php and switching completely to Javascript? I cant seem to find anything in the web making such statement. Do you have any source related to that topic? If this happens to be true. It will be quite huge impact and will break a huge existing ecosystem wich is one of the main reason they havent moved out from php so far.

As a PHP developer, you should notice that ChatGPT uses MySQLi instead of PDO. Always use PDO for security.

I agree with everything, except that in todays time I think the time is everything, so I feel when I use a framework such as Laravel I am able to do the project must faster and move on onto next client. But that's my personal preference! Other than that, your videos are really good, keep up the good stuff, looking forward new content.

I'm building up my php portfolio over the years, there's no end to it and you have to get your hands dirty with many other things. And there's a big difference between professional specialist and a jack of all trades.

I have been programming since 1974. I have worked in about 16 languages. I have two CS degrees. I have personally written more than a million lines of code. I have written compilers, interpreters, communication protocols, vector graphics engines, and pretty close to everything inbetween. First, the bad news. PHP is not a good language. Many bad decisions were made in the design of the PHP language. Comparison : Most current programming languages are badly designed. Without naming names, I can assure you that it will be far more difficult to find a single well designed programming language than to list 10 bad ones. Now the good news. You can create working programs in PHP. Yes, it is pretty slow, but modern servers are so fast that it doesn't matter as much as it used to ten years ago. Yes, programming in PHP can be quite clumsy at times, but most of the time it is possible to find a reasonably elegant way to code an algorithm and avoid the worst bits. Yes, the untyped nature of PHP variables is not a good idea, but with coding discipline you can mitigate that to some degree. There are other issues, but the same general principle holds. Is it worth learning PHP? Well, if you are intending to create a complex website, you don't have that many options. If your proposed website is going to have a complex database layout and complex user interaction, then some form of CMS coupled with PHP and MySQL is going to be the dominant choice of most web developers, for good reason. So, yes. For complex websites you probably want to learn PHP. The alternatives, such as coding the majority of the website in something like server-side javascript, will probably be even more painful. A final note. Although, at the current time, GPT cannot code your website for you, it can certainly (most of the time) code quite workable PHP snippets - for beginners, this can make a huge difference in time taken to arrive at a working algorithm. For more advanced programmers, it can be very helpful as a reference for seldom-used API calls or to spot a non-obvious error in a piece of complex code. Yes, I know that this is true for most languages, I'm just mentioning that it is certainly true for PHP, and this can help to reduce the problems you may experience because of oddities in the language.

All this is bs to. If your "php" job offer ask you to know js you will be full stack or just js programmer. PHP is backed language and you don't need to know even one single line of js to do your BACKEND jobs! Stay away with bs php jobs with js.

I love your content. I'm a 40 year old Brazilian English teacher (almost 41, now) trying to switch careers. My English is fairly good and let me tell you what, I'd accept an entry lvl job for 1k dollars a month if they accepeted me as a remote programmer. That amount is almost double of what I'm making right now in Reais (BR money). I do struggle in finding projects to make or whatever to show my skills, but I'm sure that I'll soon find out. My goal is to find a new job in the area by mid 2024. Thanks for your videos, I find them inspiring.

Wordpress and woocommerce are both trash. Drupal is good for employment. Overall php is slowly dying and really trash code. I work in laravel and php and it is nothing but a security risk. Also only 75% of the web is built on PHP and that is just because a lot of old dead static websites from 20 years ago are still in operation. Major companies who built their original platforms in PHP have moved on. Don’t let these old dinosaurs tell you that there is a future in this technology. Learn Golang, rust, Java, and any type of JavaScript framework, but for enterprise level react is the king.

A little bit antiquated on the hard skills, but mostly relevant and interchangable. Some changes I would make: - AlpineJS, React or HTMX for JS - Webpack or other module bundle tool - Git for version control - Nginx if you want to run PHP on a socket with better caching - Optional: Varnish for HTTP caching - Optional: Redis for additional storage and caching layer - Optional: RabbitMQ or other message queue system for running background operations. The optional ones are mainly for getting the most out of your application's performance.

I find php MySQL very interesting. It is still in demand.
