The last bumper harvest of the summer season!
Recorded a week ago but only just got round to uploading now! Oops. Bitter sweet last bumper harvest of the season. The Christmas potatoes took a turn and got blight so they were harvested a little earlier than planned.

Harvesting the first melons and a blight update!
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.Год назад
Surprise trip to the allotment. First melons harvested, potted on some autumn and winter seedlings and a big clear of the poly tunnel as blight creeps across the country!
Oyster mushroom update and a huge plum tree harvest!
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.Год назад
The oyster mushrooms are growing! We’re using laundry baskets to grow them in on the allotment, with straw and inoculated grain in. First harvest off one of our two plum trees too - Victoria plums this time!
My best tip for tomatoes this time of year!

My number 1 tip for tomatoes this time of year! Another allotment harvest to take home too - happy days.
Seeds to sow: August edition (plus special guest!)
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.Год назад
Seeds to sow in August - there’s still time to get quick crops before winter and start sowing for longer term to harvest next year. Special guest appearance from a little helper with four paws too…. !!
August plot update (plus something exciting in the laundry baskets!)
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.Год назад
An August update on our plot. After a rainy July the garden is loving it (and weeds!) We’re giving blue oysters a try in some laundry baskets - let’s see how they get on.
I’m excited! Polytunnel tour and bumper harvest!

I’ve been away from the allotment for almost a week, and wow so much has changed! Got a bumper harvest from the poly tunnel and some onions too.
Planning and making allotment paths!
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.Год назад
Finally, got round to updating the paths on the allotment. We decided to use membrane for some this time, as cardboard wasn’t quite doing the trick to keep the buttercups at bay for very long.
Quick cropping carrots for an autumn harvest!
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.Год назад
My last carrots of the year! I’ve chosen to sow quick cropping round variety which grows well in a container and reused an old washing up bowl with holes in the bottom for them. Even managed a little harvest before the rain came too.
Plant your leeks like this! And surprise harvest!
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.Год назад
First time I’ve managed to get up to the allotment for a while because of the rain! Managed a few hours getting some jobs ticked off the to do list while it was dry. I planted out my leeks, I learnt this technique to planting when I first got my allotment years ago and I’ve done it this way ever since! Potted on my new chilli from RHS Tatton show, which is a beautiful variegated variety with pu...
Seeds I’m sowing in July!
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.Год назад
Some succession sowing of radish, spring onions, beetroot and lettuce. Some sowing for autumn and winter (summers not over yet though!) like kale, broccoli, chard, basil, mustard. A little Christmas potato update too - I prefer planting mine in containers, one potato in each.
Can you grow oyster mushrooms in a no dig bed? First full plot tour!
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.Год назад
First full plot tour - mid July 2023. Trying to grow mushrooms on our plot again, by digging in spent inoculated mushroom bags into our raised beds. If we don’t get pink oysters, at least we’ll have good healthy soil! Managed a little harvest to take home too.
First polytunnel tour and a new creative wood path!
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.Год назад
My first polytunnel tour! I’ve been going round in circles with this path… are creating part of my Hampton Court garden in my own allotment!
My allotment garden tour at Hampton Court

A year after attending Hampton Court for the first time as a visitor, it was my turn to exhibit the design I’d drawn on a train home 12 months earlier! Pots to plots shares the concept that anyone, anywhere, in any space can grow. Raised beds, containers or micro greens.

It’s exciting to come back from a holiday and have food to harvest. It all looks great Hannah, the flowers are so pretty on your plot, not untidy. Just think how happy the pollinators are with some late season nectar 😊

I’m sure blight needs living tissue, Charles Dowding puts everything on his compost heaps unless it’s a disease like leaf curl or black spot on rose leaves. Other possibly diseased material like club root he burns. Personally I burn all my brassica roots.

We havnt watered the greenhouse or the poly for over a month. But cos the plants are in the ground I think with all the rain we have had it’s soaked into the ground in poly and greenhouse. We have had a handful of blight toms in poly and outside but it’s not made a lot of difference as we have tons and tons of toms. I have made so much Tom sauce and salsa. So we are happy.

What a shame about your holiday. I hope those melons were ripe to make up for it. Eating fresh picked melons in your garden in the sun will not quite make up for a cancelled holiday, but at least you can pretend you were on holiday. Your flower bed is absolutely glorious. I have a pallet collar bed that I will try to do the same in next year. I have a large pot of star flowers on my patio (bought from a garden centre as small plants as my sown ones perished in the heat of June sadly). They have done so well, I am a convert to Strawflowers.

What a lovely harvest and love the impromptu plot tour Hannah. Very excited to see mushrooms appearing. How cool! My Victoria Plum lost some branches last year under the weight of plums, so it is a bit thin on the ground for fruit this year. Still got some, which is fine for me as my hubby doesn't like them anyway. Interesting tip about the leeks and the twisty central leaf. They look very healthy. I did the root trim thing last year and it didn't really affect them, Logically I guess they would appear a bit behind in growth compared to the non-trimmed ones as they are having to divert a bit of energy underground to grow more roots as well as the new leaves. I am pretty sure they will catch up. ☺

Melons look good, try applying pressure with your thumbs at the opposite end that you cut from the plant. There should be some give, if not leave, them on a sunny windowsill for a couple of days and see if that makes a difference 🤞.

Hi Hannah. You should be able to push the vine off the top of the melon with your thumb where the cracking is. If the vine doesn't detach, it's not ripe. For reference; I spent 9 months picking melons and pumpkin in Oz 😁

where ever you plant your Rose make sure its somewhere where you can enjoy it. If you have a seat (if not why not ) near to that is ideal. just because it says shrub don't let that bother you. One of my best climbers is Ferdinand Pichard bought as a shrub and I let it climb up against a wall slowly and now we get long arching branches covered in flower. and the scent is gorgeous. I'll not comment on your Melons ... it would just sound wrong 🤣

Sorry to hear about your holiday's. I only have a small garden and find nasturtiums a bit unweildy, this year year I have grown some called Orchid Flame. These have been developed by Thompson and Morgan and are a more compact bush variety. They have loads of flowers that change colour, realy beautiful. They germinated really well too. Your melons look great, I hope you enjoy eating them.

Hi Hannah i have never heard of if you grow onions from seed you dont get white rot im going say i would take that with a pinch of salt im not saying 100% not true but white rot is in the soil so i fail to see how grown from seed makes any difference and the reason i think this is i have had big show onions growing from seed get white rot ok they was big onions not small but im sure that doesn't make a difference but i just like to say be careful if you do wish to try this for yourself incase you end up losing your crop of onions 🧅 i can tell you a way to grow them if you do have white rot that i have done with great success message back if like to know but this message is long enough thanks Craig

What a fab harvest of plumbs Hannah, I bought a plum tree from a well known supermarket it was in for years, I got one plum in all those years so I dug it up and put raised beds done the hugleculture way, much more productive, I always sow my leeks in a pot then I separate , use a dibber Fork handle I use, make a hole drop leek in then fill with water then leave them to get on with it, take care Steve

Melons, look to the lil curly cue tendril closest to the stem of the melon. When it turns brown and crispy, it is ready. ❤

Like Black Opal, Rosella, Tigerella, Shimmer, San Marzano & Marmande. Not impressed by Black Russian, Ildi or Principe Bourghese.
