Poor workman ship back in the 90's causes us to do a full in-frame. The cylinder liners were dated 1997 and Gus was parked around 2000. That's not very much run time! Gus is lucky he has you.
Keep us all Posted and do a video if able
Im no expert , but oil probably shouldnt be in your coolant 👍
That sucks! Check the gaskets too on the cooler. Thanks Jason!
We need the bus next weekend for an event, but will tear into it after that. I have all new gaskets and a cooler here waiting.
@@BusWithUs. Awesome!
Hopefully it's a quick repair 🤞
Interesting. My old irix O2 would have looked good there. So many old computers are simply scrapped. I had portable as400. Tru64unix on alpha.solaris workstations. Old Macintosh etc. Just no room for it
Looks like fun!
I see a trend here, you like old school stuff. Glad to see you post a video.
I like it that the whole front entrance is original.
We plan to keep it original looking to the first row of seats.
Duct tape fixes everything. Traveling Mercy once you set out on your trips.
Gus is getting gussied up😀 Duct tape makes great upholstery! Good job. Glad you're heading out.👍
I'm scared to drain mine! LOL!!! It's been over 50 years! Thanks Jason!
Ok . I would do it after a run of about a hour. Sometimes would even drive it around for 30 minutes. That way everything comes out. Remarkably nothing was stuck onto your magnet just sludge no residue of chipped teeth. Happy Motoring
Did you run the bus first? Let it get hot then drain after it cools down. Oil would come out a lot faster without the sludge build up
I did run it but not too long. Just enough to warm it up and flow better.
It's good to see you're still posting content and staying active. It seems like everyone else has disappeared.
looks good every time
Always good to see your steady progress on Gus. PB blaster for the win
I've been spraying those latches for almost 4 years to get them freed up!
@@BusWithUs. Talk about stubborn rust. Geeze.
Beautiful coach!
So.. the drivetrain in this bus was built by Gene Russell of Russells Diesel in Mill Springs,NC.. Gene has a 47 that has the same engine and trans set up. I have ridden in Genes bus.. seen only a couple ddec 671's.. saw one for sale year ago in a GMC truck.. too much $ for just wanting the motor..
Gene used RH truck ECU's and rewired them to fire LH. Lots of work!
@@BusWithUs. i saw the drivetrain in renners bus in action before his bus was done and went to nc.. gene had it in a bus and drive it around yard to work all kinks out. I forget what steering box comes out of..i think its a certain year ford truck one..modify the pitman arm off it for bus. He told me.. seen it..been so long..
@@BusWithUs. i know a guy who says he has a ddec 671..its in a articulated city transit.. sits horizontal under floor.. when i was there..was too snakey to go pokin around. I saw a truck in nc that had a ddec 671.. but price of truck was a bit high..like $9k or better.. all i wanted was the ddec 671. It was mid 90's. Been told some early 90's Flxible transits had them.but hard to find.
@@BusWithUs. need a video of 6v92 in 4104. I bought a 89 tmc transit with ddec 6v92.. maybe one day that drivetrain will end up in my 4104
You can test for leaks by pulling the valve cvr and plugging the return line and running it at idle
I guess that would crank up the pressure so they leak more!! Thanks for the tip.
Nice!
LOL, if it ain't leaking oil somewhere there's something wrong.
Nice bus! I hear a weak cylinder though. . You might want to run your rack and/or check your injectors.
Nice find!
G'day, It's great seeing and hearing Gus. It's been a while. So thanks for sharing man ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
It looks like you may need new injector cups, and that should solve your problem
I'm going to order new lines for when I install the jakes.
Last piece of free advice...order a full set of jumper lines ....they come with the fittings n all flared n ready to go..... you got them snugged down now n if the frames are not cracked they will be now n ur problem will be back and be worse.....new jumper lines will be good to have if you era on the side of the rd...ok gd luck. Luv GMs ❤️🇺🇲
Flares not frames...oops
I have a full set of jakes waiting for O-rings. I plan to buy a new set for them. Thanks for the advice.
@@BusWithUs. Ran 71 series in fishing boats for decades.....even the old 2 valve "Gray Marine" 671...... nothing will get you home like a GM ....god bless ❤️🇺🇲
I would have done the leak test with the valve cover off at an idle ur pulling all the fuel you need to see a leak on a jumper.....now you got the die all over the place.......🤔
Nope, i flushed out the fuel with dye till fresh stuff was in the return. Only a few drops ended up in the oil. I cleaned around the injectors. I just didn't show that in the video. It was time for new filters anyways.
Is that a 671N series??....if so ur on to it....ur getn fuel from the rack...jumper lines likely.....don't let the base get overfull by a lot cuz she will run away...❤️🇺🇲
Yes it was mostly off #2 injector.
That 6th sounds like crap many think that's a valve tapping... Buuut it's a faulty injector. Greetz Bjorn
That's the air compressor you're hearing. You can hear it shut off eventually in the video.
Gus sounds really great. Is Sage doing anything with his silversides?
Jeez, its been a while, great to see you back!
Yeah I realized I don't like editing videos as much as I like fixing buses :) I'm back to doing videos but they won't be as polished as before.
Good to see you. Gus is running great!
Gus is burning clean no smoke
I didn't think they made quite that much supply pressure.
50-70 PSI.
glad you found the leaks was first thinking it could be a leaking seal in the fuel pump?
Thought about it, but the fuel pump does have a weep hole in the bottom so it should go external rather than into the oil. But it is possible...We'll keep a close eye on the oil level for awhile.
@@BusWithUs. thanks for the reply...I forgot about the weep hole as a telltale. I, think you nailed it....safe travels!
Yea, more Gus content ❤ Nice job troubleshooting.
Nice fix, still waiting for the Dieter and Thomas go for a ride episode :-).
It's wonderful to see you posting an update. 👋👍
Look how clean that engine is... Pathetic. 😂
I tried to get it dirty. 😜😜
Hey Sage. How about posting an update on what you’ve been doing? Long time no hear!
I think I have radiator shroud envy. Glad to see you post again.
3 years after first posted. 1 correction. 671T is not a DDEC as stated. Beautiful bus!
This bus is DDEC2. The harness was modified from a RH engine.
PRECIOSOS❤. CUANTO 😮 CUESTAN..?
If you see another silverside along a highway abandon would you try to buy and restore ??
It would depend on the condition!
We usually do spinning in a Cessna and for the first time we did spinning in a Piper yesterday. I was a bit reluctant because I was told you can easily go into a flat spin in a Piper. Thank God we didn't. The question is, should you use both ailerons and rudders to recover from a spin in a Piper? As far as I know the procedure is control column neutral and opposite rudder to stop spinning. The instructor I flew with yesterday said I should use both ailerons and rudders to recover. A reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Recovery is standard as per the POH. Review if you have not already. Straight wing Cherokee spins fine, sometimes needs a little aileron application to encourage it to stall to the right. I would not spin a later Cherokee that is not approved as such.
Was hoping I can get some help. I recently acquired the exact same year and model of bus. It runs great but it needs a little bit of suspension work the steering is a bit sloppy. Where would one get parts for this bus? Let's say for example tie rod ends are ball joints are steering joints etc. Any help is greatly appreciated thank you!
I'm not sure where you could find parts for those. It's always a challenge with vintage buses. I'm looking for a drag link for my 3751 now.
Did this fix work? I need to do some work on mine
So far it's still working. I carry a spare.
Is this bus a 4 speed column shifter?
Silversides are 4 on the column.
Old busses are so fascinating to me. Thanks for sharing.
