Okay, so I have vitiligo, which is an autoimmune disorder, so I don't wish it on anyone. This has been my experience. It's difficult. Because of the lack of melanin in certain spots, those areas are extremely sensitive to sunburn and to getting skin cancer. I have to be sure to wear sunscreen, especially on my face, which is difficult since it is always getting in my eyes, which stings like crazy! Wherever I go, I am always getting head turns, double takes, and kids asking their moms what is wrong with that lady. I've had many people think I was burned in a fire and thought I had scars. Once, a lifeguard told me I could not swim in the pool because he thought I had a transmittable disease. Of course, I educated him in a kind way. When I was a kid, the school nurse told me to wipe the yogurt off my face, and a young child thought that I had spilled milk all over myself. The most positive comments that actually made me feel good for a change were when a stranger on the subway said she thought my white spots were unique and beautiful. Once, a child told me I looked beautiful like a rainbow. 🌈 ❤😊
