Nice😊
Thankyou, they're a special species.
I’m really impressed with your RUclips channel! The content you’re creating is top-notch and incredibly informative. The way you present your topics is really helpful for your audience.
Thank you, I enjoy telling people about my day.
@@rawlosfishing Yes. But your videos are not reaching the right target due to lack of SEO
You are indeed a skilled and graceful fish hunter
Thank you so much, fishing means the world to me. It's my down time from work; it also challenges me physically and mentally, further allowing me to interact with wonderful people all over the world. I couldn't ask for much more.
Rerally in this video just wow
Thank you for watching. Light tackle fishing is a huge challenge, especially one up. You get to see the struggles in this one.
Do you think the tuna are earlier this year
I've found every year a little different, with our non winter bite this year I wasn't sure if they'd show at all. I'd say they're about normal however the kings are slow.
@ I reckon it’s only gonna get better though
We couldn’t get a mako that day as well but luckily the gummy’s where on the chew
The frustrating part was a mate raised a mako in his boat and wasn't fishing for them. That's fishing I guess.
Yeah on the Portland complete angler instagram a heap of people got them
Good stuff man
Cheers mate, was a heap of fun and a great change of pace.
Did you manage to hook anymore?
Sorry for the late reply... I sure did, this was the pic of them. There's plenty of small fish on offer, I had the most success on small occy type lures with squid strips attached. I'm sure they'll take metal slugs or plastics if you pull up and cast at them.
Great effort solo mate , bit different to rocklands yellas !
Thankyou... I'm out of practise, puffing a fair bit.
Great feed there, and the flat sea conditions make it a awesome day
It's not often we get glassed out conditions, it was just unreal.
Nice vid mate. What a great day on the water. I should have been out there!
A few Makos taken today but we couldn't raise one, conditions were awesome.
Outstanding thank you. Just wondering why you need to gaff the school sharks compared to netting the gummy’s ?
The Schoolies teeth dictate as to how they are dealt with boat side. They are extremely dangerous and could inflict a nasty wound if bitten by one. The decision to gaff is purely to protect those on board and minimise the opportunity for the fish to bite through the leader and find freedom.
How deep?
This is in forty metres of water east of Lawrence Rock. I have a previous video called "My Portland Gummy Mark" which will show you the coordinates and general area on Nav Maps.
Love your videos Thanks
Thank you, I love sharing what's happened in my day and lucky enough to catch a few on the way.
Persistence always pays off out there, my father and I drifted between black nose point and the pivot for 5 hours for virtually nothing and then all of a sudden whiting after whiting with plenty of flathead as well. Maybe a tide change or wind change stirred them up, but who knows. Great video, l enjoy watching Portland as l haven’t fished there for years.
Thank you and you're spot on, a westerly wind change saw the fish come on. Say hi next time you're in Portland.
Great video mate
Thanks Pete, hoping to see you on the water soon.
Great job mate.
Thank you, it was an amazing session once they got going.
Bloody hell
Was an amazing trip.
!! 👍💚💚💚💚💚💚
Ended up going fishing up near the wall on Friday and I had some good luck got a few nice yellas and then this morning I hooked an absolute monster and it instantly bent out the little assist hooks on my tt switchprawn, still spewing I lost the fish but I don’t think I even had a chance, my bad luck streak had ran out in the end but there’s always just a big fish that gets away I guess 😂
As Robbie Alexander says, I think you had a near Cod experience. In all seriousness, great to hear you broke the drought, yell out if you see me up there... I'm always up for a chat.
@@rawlosfishingi tried to look out for ya but i think i woke a bit too late
Dooh
A few choice words were edited out, hahaha.
Not as though it’s a cheap lure..Disappointing..RAPALA..
I would've preferred the leader to give way rather than knowing the lure snapped. We certainly keep the tackle stores in business.
Bad luck mate , looked like a good fish
I sat in the boat and pondered what might have been, it keeps me going back though.
Hey mate, I’ve been camped at glendinning since Tuesday morning and only caught a few Redfin, any tips on what speed to troll, what depth, etc? Because I’ve almost lost all hope, I’ve been trolling a couple size 3 stump jumpers at around 4m and 4kph and as I said have caught barely anything and need a few tips on what to do
Hi mate, the bite has been in the mornings for me and all over by lunch time. I've tried to match the hatch and use small redfin / perch or minnow coloured lures. Don't be scared to go as slow as you can and get as close to the bank as possible. The Berkley Twitcher and Rapala Shad Rap lures have been really successful in my trips, for some reason they're taking the smaller lures. I'm hoping to be up there Saturday if you're still there, come say g'day. Orange DMax.
@ alright mate, I’ll try look for you tomorrow haha. I’ll be in a blue kayak with shimano stickers. Thanks so much for the info mate
"He's gone under the boat". Where have I heard that before! Awesome fish.
Thank you, I'm having way too much fun chasing these fish.
Do you think a Daiwa double clutch would work
Sure will, trouble with Rocklands is the timber... I hate losing good lures when I forget my tackle back.
Great work mate can I ask wat depth water you like troll 👍
At the moment I go as shallow as I can, I have to downgrade the lure size though to adjust. Reason for the shallows is the warmth, today was two to four metres.
You can’t get much better then a big yella
Great video! What was the setup you used for sailfish and jigging? Planning a trip out there next season.
Thank you, we had an amazing trip. I travelled with my own reels, they're Shimano Stradic 6000's which were loaded with 30lb braid. The rods were various Daiwa and Shimano sticks provided by the trip organiser. Don't be scared to fish light, if you start losing too much line the skipper will assist and chase the fish. The locals use reels as small as 2500, 3000.
@rawlosfishing thank you
@rawlosfishing which charters do you recommend?
We booked through the Australian based Ocean Blue Fishing Adventures. They were amazing. 😊
Looks like it’s been a great piscatorial year (so far) Ash.
I've had a heap of fun... look out 2025.
Awesome fish Rawlo, did well to land that one on the light gear, well done.
They're such great fun on light line, I'll run into one soon that I won't be able to stop.
You missed a lovely stew at Lake Fyans.
Hope you boys have had a wonderful trip.
Beauty catches! Great channel too I’ll definitely subscribe
Thank you... I've just subscribed, can't wait to check your video's out.
@ thank you so much man!
Daiwa Steez RPM Crank MID-10 are a great option for a chubby lure if you’re looking for one for Rocklands. Has been awesome this season
I love their colour range too, they certainly do a great product. Sunday arvo online shopping?
Gorgeous Cod Ash. Nicely done 💪🏼
Will head up tomorrow for a look... fingers crossed.
Love it keep up the sensational work
Cheers mate, loved catching this one. 😊
Have you ever went a bit further to Taylor’s lake near Horsham because that’s also an awesome cod and yella fishery
Taylors has some huge fish in it, thinking I'll head up that way in a couple weeks if the weather holds.
How deep were u fishing,
This was in 130 metres... we were lucky enough to have glassed out conditions.
@@rawlosfishing i was behind rock drifting, couldnt find a bite, n yes backed right off through out the day
We actually expected more on the day being out deep, the sharks didn't move in. Always next time for us.
Awesome story and great result for the fish.
It was amazing to be a part of...
Epic big brown Mick and top release mate, well done. 🇦🇺
It was so good to be part of with Mick.
That's a Banger! Good work on dislodging the treble & line, thats good karma for the group! Good job on the net... Lot's of casting & mixing it up ..positive mindset...gets that unforgettable moment. Cheer's
It was an amazing fish to be a part of, I'm thinking March, April may see my return.
Bloody ripper fish Mick love ya work mate, well done 👌🏻👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺
He's a truly talented angler.
These are Canals fed by Lakes,
They certainly are, Lake Pukaki, Lake Tekapo and Lake Benmore all hold great fishing in their own right.
Hi. a comment from Sweden....I don't know if that river has connection to the sea, but that fish is far more a big Seatrout than a Brown Trout. To many small spots to be a Brown I think. In Sweden we have them both, often in the same rivers. Our Brown is brown with red spots and the Seatrout is just silver when it cames from the sea to spawn. Fantastic fish anyway. :-)
Hi and thankyou for watching, the area we were fishing is in the central part of the south island of New Zealand, no connection to the ocean that I know of. They do have sea run Chinook Salmon in NZ however, I'll do some homework for you.
Definitely not a seatrout ronny. Everything is just big in the south island of NZ. Including deer and other game. You have to come here to believe it 🤝🏼🐟🐟🐟
NZ is such an amazing place, we just love coming to visit.
@rawlosfishing there's some dinosaur sized trout in those canals . Glad you enjoy the fishing . Great video bro 🤝🏼👏
We had such a great week chasing them and can't wait to go back. They continue to challenge angler's and we wouldn't have it any other way.
Lol. Scared to get his tootsie's wet
It was so good to watch absolute cracker fish mate
That’s awesome fishing. What sort of gear r u guys using to land those crackers
A range of long Samurai and Daiwa rods matched with 2500 sized reels, my personal reel is the Vanford however I do love my Stradic. All matched with 4lb braided line and 8lb leader.
Great recap on the trip mate, awesome footage and awesome fish by all and was a pleasure catching up and having an awesome week away with you and all the boys 👍🎣
Was the best week mate, and I learnt heaps about the NZ wilderness thanks to Trev. Hahahaha
@@rawlosfishing I think we all did mate lol never to go down tracks you don’t know 😂
Great footage 👌
Was the best trip brother, can't wait for next time.
@@rawlosfishing most definitely mate

I am going fishing in port fairy at about 10:00-10:30 in the Moyne and in the sea of u wanna come
But not a boat
I would but have commitments. Let me know how you go, we need to get you a go pro. 😊
@@rawlosfishing you should come
For a fish
@@rawlosfishing I I hate put Australian salmon on the lures also we are heading to rocklands on the week end you should come to glendening
Thanks for posting, looks like you guys did well! I was there for two weeks in July, temps as low as -7. Not a lot of flow that trip so did a lot of soft baiting, best fish went 12 pound, it's defiantly getting harder there. Next trip is planned for May, 3 weeks. Looking forward to your next vid.
Thank you, I personally had a challenging trip but was so happy to be a part of the fish that were caught. I just adore NZ and will definitely head back in 25.
Well done ! I'ts not a easy fishrie...due to the high pressure angling it let's.. nevertheless...time on the water, gets the results & smiles! It's a place you go back time and again...due to the fish it produces...I am sure you would have got some Intel..for next year.
I agree one hundred percent, I had such a good week and adore New Zealand. My personal fishing challenges will only encourage me to return. I'm open to all suggestions to help take the pressure off this fishery for future generations.
I've been trialing a new jig head -that you should try- they are super sharp+++++ & tungsten..they are an* outbarb and just been super impressed - if you get a chance try them..japanese "Ichikawa"for all things trout.
I'll jump online and check them out.
