Highbrook End Model Railway
Великобритания
Добавлен 16 май 2020
Hello and welcome to Highbrook End Model Railway!
Previously I've been best known for everything to do with model trains - reviews, servicing, running sessions, challenges, train games, electronics and more. Since the beginning, I've also filmed dozens of trainspotting episodes across many stations, featuring hundreds of locomotives - something which I have always enjoyed going out to film.
Now, I've shifted my channel into making more varied types content, as I've found that trains with a balance of other stuff is much more fun and enjoyable to create. This could be anything from analysing films, TV or songs, servicing and repairing engines / lawn mowers, or anything else I find interesting.
I've kept my old channel name as I rather like it, and trains will probably be what I am remembered for and known for in the future too.
Highbrook End Model Railway - trains with a sprinkling of everything else.
Thanks for checking out my channel, and do take a look around.

GWR 4073 Class No. 7029 "Clun Castle" with "The Christmas White Rose" stops at Pontefract Baghill
Well, wasn't this a lovely surprise! On the timings, Clun Castle was schedule to stop at Pontefract Baghill for around 20 minutes or so, but previously (you may recall seeing the video on my channel) when scheduled to stop for water, Clun Castle sped straight through and ended up filling up further down the line. Albeit schedule to stop for a passing train this time, me and everyone else more or less expected it to fly straight through. So what a lovely surprise it was when we heard the gentle puff of a steam engine rather than an erupting roar - we knew we'd have plenty of opportunities for photos!
This has probably been my favourite spot to date, the fact that nobody was really expectin...

Class 57 57311 "The Institution of Mechanical Engineers" on the back of the tour. I think I was incredibly luck to capture this railtour today! The tour had been running about 1hr late when it arrived into York earlier today, so I was hoping that, given it had a 2hr 30mins rest break before turning round and heading back to Barrow-In-Furness, that it would get back on schedule. I was very wrong...

The first time I've seen 2 different railtours (and steam locomotives!) in the same day, so yes, we're back 30 minutes later at Church Fenton! Now we see Class 47 D1924 "Crewe Diesel Depot" leading and LNER A4 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" on the rear, shortly before arriving at Gascoigne Wood to be reversed and A4 Sir Nigel Gresley to be put at the head of the train again. We're back at possibly my favourite train station (for trainspotting at least!) - Church Fenton! Here we see Class 47 47848 leading and Black 5 44871 on the rear, shortly before arriving at Gascoigne Wood to be reversed and the Black 5 to be put at the head of the train again. Thanks to RailAdvent not putting this information on their usual website post for this railtour, I didn't know the stea...

Blue Peter is back! This is the second time seeing her (him? can we make an exception considering the name?) today, and I'm glad I made the effort to stand out in the cold again - it was absolutely fantastic to be able to have a good look at Blue Peter with my own eyes for such a long time (as a result of the low speed) rather than it just being a blue streak flying past! I think this is also t...

Replacing a damaged point and wiring in new signals at Highbrook End Model Railway

Apologies in advance if there are any audio-video desync issues, my phone was overheating due to the loft being incredibly warm and me filming at 60fps - I've done my best to fix it in the edit but small issues may remain. Today it's time to replace the point I damaged about a year ago when adding point motors onto my layout - hopefully we can get the 3rd to 4th radius crossover back up and run...

A nice little spot and nice weather for it too! A whistle from Tangmere and a horn from the 47 too! I will mention that Tangmere's fire didn't look all too healthy on the approach to the station, with voluminous quantities of really black smoke coming out of chimney - not as apparent in the video as I cut it down to prevent the video being too long. Also she seemed a little reluctant to get awa...

To be fair LSL did a lot better with 60+ year old rolling stock than most of the normal TOCs managed at the weekend!
I agree there, although not anyone's fault for any of the delays of course. The broken rail at Stalybridge looked bad, not to mention the weather and flooding! Bet it was nice and toasty on Mayflower's footplate!
I don't think they will be refunded. Most companies have 'exceptional circumstances' clauses and storm Bert would probably count as such on the insurance. You might get something from Network Rail for the broken rail situation but, again, there wasn't a failure to provide a service, and I don't think delay repay applies to TOC's such as LSL...
Hmm, you might be right there! Some free Champagne on board instead maybe!
Great video! I've subscribed!
Thanks Henry, appreciate it! 😊
@@highbrookendmodelrailway You're welcome! I saw her at York.
@@HenrysAdventures You know I've been to York many times but never to spot anything, I must make a trip of it sometime, especially with all the tours around this time of year. :)
Where was this filmed btw?
Hi Christopher, this was at Normanton :)
In 3:4 aspect ratio because long things in 9:16 (shorts format) don't work very well!
Hi I was watching Tony’s dock video from 6 yrs ago on how to wire LEDS for direction on control panel but it was for DCC. How do I wire on a DC layout using your method I’m struggling lol
Hi Graham, if you're ok doing this I'm happy to help over email? It will be easier if we need to send diagrams or anything, etc. My email is modelrailwayreviewyt@gmail.com Happy to help and I'll see if I can be of any assistance!
Hi try using a flux to stop your solder blobbing, I use Topnik 85 it is non corrosive and works very well, Well done so far Regards Alan
Thanks Alan for the suggestion! I've got some better solder since then, although it wasn't bad stuff, it was lead-frer. I've now got some proper 60/40 tin lead stuff and I find it a lot better. Probably didn't help as I was soldering upside down and onto rubbish tinned aluminium Chinese wires! Thanks for watching :)
Nice one George! A lovely loco with a lovely route! Take care :)
Thanks mate! :)
great george, really enjoyed that
Glad you enjoyed it Pete! :)
This is the locomotive I imagine "Ivor the Engine" to be:-)
Small and green, I'll give you that!
37s are great locos they are rightfully number 1 on your list
Great vid mate, always nice to see the Sprinters - I need to persuade you to buy a Bachmann one!
I'd get a Northern one if I had the funds!
@@highbrookendmodelrailway I think they make one as well 😂
Just another thought, if youre using a lot of screw terminals in areas where you may meed to disconnect them eventually, id highly recommend use of Squires tools 'choc-bloc' connevtors, which are screw terminals, two sets, kust one of them (the sets of blocks) has a pin which locates into the other set, making it easy to clip the joints together. Hopefully you understand what i mean 😂
Just a thought about ballast - I use Pets at Home Calci Sand - about a tenner for a couple of Kilos. It's real stone too and looks incredibly fine and pretty realistic too. Much better value than other types, I highly recommend you take a look at some of that for the bit that needs reballasting 😁
All of the ballasting is done on the layout apart from that little section, and I'd quite like it to match, plus I can buy it in small quantities (as little as 50g) so it's ideal for just patching up small sections. I will definitely keep it in mind if I need some scenic aggregate for any of the sidings though, thank you!
Have you tried spraying the ballast with warm/hot water to soften the pva and then remove it?
I have tried it before when I re-ballasted some sections I did poorly the first time round, it worked but wasn't too effective (maybe my glue is too strong!) This area is right where two baseboards join, thus there is a slight gap and I didn't want to risk everything getting soaked. For larger areas this might be good idea. :)
Hmmm. I just did a video on my insulfrog points from Hornby not isolating the passing loop, I'm toying with ripping it out and probably should
Thankfully this didn't take me too long, maybe around 2hrs 30mins and that was with filming and setting up shots / re-recording explanations that I messed up! Odd that it's not isolating, not had that problem myself yet. Maybe a metal fragment in the mechanism?
Nice work. Better to do it once and do it right. 👍 Happy Modelling
Thank you! Absolutely, I should've realised sooner how much of a pain it was going to be and installed the motors right from the start!
There's 2 ways of doing things the great Western way or the wrong way
We got one of these at the SVR - really nice bit of kit, sounds fantastic! Great vid mate 👍
Thanks mate, yes they are lovely things, got a bit of a better view this time!
It pulled into Wigan station yesterday.
Nice, haven't seen this in a while, it is a lovely livery so would definitely like to see it again sometime!
Nice work. Very tidy wiring compared to under my main layout. Great work. Happy Modelling
Thank you so much! It's not too bad I suppose, as long as I know what everything does!
great video, thanks
Thanks for watching, no problem!
ive been servicing 08s since 1978 and i still get the base plate wiring wrong sometimes, i find it quite funny.
Wow! They are really lovely to work on :)
He won't be a "trainspotter" or a railway enthusiast. Just an idiot with no interest in Railways until he's heard Flying Scotsman is coming. For this reason its best the general public are not told when Flying Scotsman is running.
As this video is now a year old, I have no doubt that you will have made considerably more progress on your layout, but there is a problem with the method of wiring your signals to the points in the way you have shown here. One of the routes through your points will always have a red signal, rendering it unavailable if you intend to run your trains whilst taking heed of the signal aspect.
Rather amusingly I actually haven't done that much, but hoping to change that very soon! :) I am running on DC only so although one of the lights will be at danger I can only run one train on any two given lines when crossing between them - as otherwise there would be a bit of a crash!
The 08 box is missing a bare cardboard sleeve. I've got a contemporary (1965-72) princess Victoria loco with the same sort of packaging.
It did look incomplete, thanks for the info! Thanks for watching :)
What is the height of the light ?
Hi, from the base to the top of the signal, it's about 6.4cm / 2.5in, here's the listing on eBay if you are interested: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373737324347?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=THJ_7RrqTam&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=_nabt7q6swe&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY (Not sponsored, just happy with the product!) :)
Amazing railway. How long did this take you? Im looking to make one myself.🚅
Thank you! It's taken about 2 years I think to get it to this point, although I've not been able to work on it consistently for any of that period of time. Hoping to get a whole load of scenery done and some big progress made soon! That's great - good luck! 👍
@@highbrookendmodelrailway Thanks appreciate it 🚆.
No problem, feel free to ask something anytime, I'll try my best to answer! :)
Just rewatching - if you thought the Lima ones were good, check out the Airfix Mk2 Air cons. Theyre brilliant too.
Thanks, I'll take a look! :)
Does the loco fan only work on dcc.
I run on DC but it will run on either DC or DCC, it's just driven with a rubber belt from one of the flywheels on the motor. :)
@@highbrookendmodelrailway Ok the fan on mine does not work on DC for some reason have not tried it on DCC yet
Apologies, I've just remembered that the new 31s (and 56s) don't come fitted with the fan unit as standard. The old "Super Detail" models did but the fan unit was something I bought and added as an extra for this model. Part of the frame for the fan assembly will be there but some of the pulleys will be missing. If it's a relatively new Class 31 then it won't have the pulleys and equipment fitted to make the fan turn.
Oh yeah Google has tagged Highbrook Apartments as a place! 😅😂
Oh my god 🤣I've disabled that feature now! Normally I set location to "United Kingdom" for the only reason that people know I'm running on 240v 50Hz when I waffle on about electronics!😆
Really enjoyed this, sorry i couldnt be in for longer
