Enjoy it while you can. They grow up so fast. 😭😭😭
Sure seems like a blur already!
@@wiseforgeandfarrier Keep up the good work brother. With both your kids and the Iron work.
@@emeric7303 thank you!!!
@@wiseforgeandfarrier You're Welcome Brother!!!
That’s cool
She’s the coolest!
meaning the foot is so stretched out because of excess moisture the natural landmarks ie the WL might not be an accurate indicator of sensitive tissue.
Yea that’s a pretty good way to put it. Instead of the white line being what is stretched, the sole is.
So during the wet season you have a tendency to just gather to even hoof wall thickness and fit it? I’m in the west and the feet are harder than rocks rn.
This is actually a really hard subject to have a conversation on because until you have lived it, anatomy says it’s wrong. But, honestly, I’m trimming more off feel, I’m trimming the distortion away by cutting the shape in, but because I’m leaving all the depth, and the sole is stretched, I end up actually nailing “inside the white line” quite a bit. I plan on doing a video on this in the future
Hey There Wise Farrier! Very nice looking foot when you were finished. I'm glad to see you cutting the clenches first thing, which I've noticed some of the other Farriers i follow skip, and I think that increases the amount wrenching on both the horse and the man. Your attention to detail is seen in your own clenches, and your sanding and your application of hoof oil. I hope you have a good one! 🐎 👍 🇺🇸
Hey there! I definitely agree, since I swapped to using pull offs more instead of create nail pullers, it definitely makes life a bit easier for everyone when I cut them. I think crease nail pullers are definitely a huge difference maker in cutting clenches or not! Thanks for the comment and for watching!
All them hoof wall shavings swirling around got me singing “do you wanna build a snowman!”
😂😂 I literally thought the same thing
Solid work 👍 Keep'em coming
Thank you!!!
Show 👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷
Thank you!
Thank you for explaining the difference in shoe styles and how one differs from the other.
Definitely isn’t a full explanation but a brief synopsis for sure
Bad ass!!!
Thanks homie
Why is this stuff so mesmerizing?
Because they do their jobs well.
That my friend, is a million dollar question
I see the taps between hits, I really enjoy people taking pride in what they do and making something look so easy while they do it 👏
I’m glad it looks easy, I still feel like I ride the struggle bus lol
@@wiseforgeandfarrier I think you’re right about that, everything feels like it takes on new hard part new things to learn and new challenges to overcome but coming from a guy with absolutely no forging experience I definitely know someone who likes to show off what they do and being proud has gotta be one of the easiest steps along the way of mastering anything.
Very nice glad the skill ain’t lost to the digital world the way you make that look easy you must be doing 100 horses a week great job
Haha thank you, definitely not doing 100 horses a week, but trying to make as many shoes as possible as often as I can! Muscle memory goes a long way, repetition, repetition, repetition
You have unlocked a new achievement: 45 degree bend!
I don’t guess I understand…
The part that takes skill is not closing up the fullering, or hollow section, of the steel or dinging up the concave, or slanted section, on the inside of that “45 degree” bend. For those that know, this takes some well practiced skill to get proficient at.
This may be an unbelievable high amount of physical work (even with another person to help), but this is my dream job/hobby Edit: Any tips to start out?
It is a ton of physical work. The best piece of advice, find a good mentor and stick to them like glue!
I've always been fascinated by the ability to reform a material like metal, the unfortunate thing is I don't think there's anything in the state where I live
@@Tectonicbeatle1 there are blacksmith associations and farrier associations in pretty much every state in the U.S.A
@wiseforgeandfarrier I'm more into the whole of blacksmithing than anything else. But I'll do alittle research one of these days to see if I can find something
@@Tectonicbeatle1 definitely man, check out ABANA. It’s Artistic Blacksmiths Association of North America

Keep em coming man, love your perspective. I was wondering. How much do you shoe around the Coffin joint and come off the toe in your everyday shoeing?
Hey there! Thanks! I would say I don’t necessarily think of it as shoeing around the coffin joint as much as it’s maintaining proportions, both in front and behind ducketts dot. I set a ton of shoes back off the toe, but I do it with a toe clip. Being as wet as it is here, the soles and white lines distort so to maintain vertical depth, a lot of time, I’m actually “inside the white line”
Make a 45-60 second Short with the nailing up part, zoomed in to the capsule as you are driving the nails. Pair it with a good country song at 15% of the volume. Watch the asmr magic happen.
Might have. To give that a go
“Do you want to build a snowman…. doesn’t have to be a snow man…..”
Go away Aunna!!!
@@wiseforgeandfarrier, 🎶 ooookay byeeee!
@@SouthFLFarrierShorts byeeeee
does this hurt the horse? if it doesn’t, how?
Not at all! The nails are driven into insensitive structure called the white line. The white line is basically the Velcro between the hoof wall and the coffin bone. Just like our nails, there’s sensitive parts and insensitive. When done proper, the nails are in the insensitive
Enjoyed this video ❤❤❤
So glad! There will be plenty more like it coming!
Does it hurt the horse when you are trimming his/her nails?
When it’s done properly, not at all. Just like trimming our own nails or a dogs nails, if you do too much it absolutely can be painful and these big animals will let you know.
still a tad short on that lateral heel
I would have loved to have maybe another 1/8 inch, but honestly this guys feet grow like he’s in New Mexico so I don’t mind a little tighter fit
u'd better wear gloves, for that..
Callus this thick don’t need bitch mittens!
Thank you for this!
Hope it helps someone!
Slicker than a KFC kitchen floor
😂😂
Ear protection?
Not real practical when needing to communicate with your atriker
Super talented and humble guy! Good clinician too!
Absolutely agree!
No eye protection, he will not make it to retirement.
You’re not wrong, I’ve only had to have 3 pieces of metal removed from my eye so far. I’m usually a lot better about wearing my glasses. Everyone’s comments will definitely be a good reminder to get the glasses back on
PPE ?
Overrated😂 just kidding, I should honestly get better about remembering
Very rare trait these days! Good to see some still have it
It definitely is a trade with more demand than supply. The desire to work hard sure isn’t what it used to be but it has made for a very lucrative business
Why do you burn the hoof?
That’s pretty dope actually
Where I come from it’s pretty common lol
@@kdugg not in Northeastern PA where I’m from 😂
Believe it or not the northeast is loaded with great farriers and blacksmiths. I do believe it’s maybe not as prevalent as it used to be but some really great handy guys up there
Good shaping, didn't understand a thing about horse shoes. Get your thumb off that handle though, it's bad technique that leads to needing elbow surgery in the long run.
I only use my thumb when I am doing finer more accurate blows, but your definitely not wrong!
Do you have to be strong to do blacksmithing cos I'm really skinny but always wanted to try and learn as a hobby
@@killabee420kl7 not really! It’s more about technique. There is some physicality to it but there are tons of women and girls as well as petite men that forge
@@wiseforgeandfarrier thanks I'm definitely gonna give it a try at some point then
@@killabee420kl7 definitely! Find a good mentor!
No eye protection .hard to do blind
Ahhh definitely the one thing I struggle with most! It’s hard to juggle the eye protection and the sweat. Sometimes I’m really good about it but most of the time I just use “safety squint”
S wide clip
Went on the hoof pretty appropriately though
Too much rust on that anvil to be his regular.
I live in Florida, our anvils and tools rust overnight, no matter how much you use them.

Thanks, still trying to get it a little better
Nail a shoe on with a pull off! I actually seen an old dude in a clinic at centaur forge shoe a horse from start to finish with a diamond pull off. He was an old farrier for the cavalry I believe. Same dude pulled a clip on a horseshoe cold. What a cool experience it was!
Man, that sounds like it’s gonna be rough,I’m gonna pack a few extra band aids and I’ll make it happen tho! Thanks for the suggestion!
