Camino de Santiago Time Lapse Series - 09: Carrión de los Condes (Sep. 28, 2020)
after a day without a Holy Grail time lapse, I was craving to shoot one¡ Luckily, I stopped for the nicht in Carrión de los Condes, which has it all: a river for some long expo, and am ancient bridge over it that gets illuminated at night and also provides some light trails from the cars that occasionally cross it.
I picked a lovely spot right by the river, submerging my tripod some 50 cm in the water. My Canon 6D Mark II with EF 24-105 lens was set at 35 mm. Running it from iPhone, I started shooting at 0.6 sec. at 6:55 pm, and went all the way to 15 sec until 7:32, finishing with a total of 211 frames.

Camino de Santiago Time Lapse Series - 08: Hornillos del Camino (Sep. 27, 2020)
Просмотров 903 года назад
The skies continued to be beautiful and motion-filled throughout the day. Stepping over the hill and getting the first view of Hornillos del Camino was a time lapse site not to be missed - fortunately, just to the left off the Camino there was a nice little hill to get up on top and set up my tripod with Canon in the auto time lapse mode, and to sit back and soak up this perfect Meseta vista!
Camino de Santiago Time Lapse Series - 07: Castrojeriz (Sep. 27, 2020)

The skies were beautiful that morning, with just the perfect movement of the clouds to make for a great, motion-filled time lapse, so I stopped on what little hill I could find next to the Camino and spent some time taking in the view as my Canon was taking its time to do the same in auto time lapse mode.
Camino de Santiago Time Lapse Series - 06: Hontanas at Sunset (Sep. 26, 2020)
Просмотров 713 года назад
I made sure to arrive early enough at the Albergue in order to have the time to shower, wash, eat and then go out to scout out this spot on the hill above and to the right of the village. Ths was my third Holy Grail time lapse. My Canon 6D Mark II with EF 24-105 lens was set at 40 mm and mounted on the tripod. I was running it via the Canon App on my iPhone. The first frame was shot at 1/6 sec ...
Camino de Santiago Time Lapse Series - 05: Burgos at Sunset (Sep. 25, 2020)
Просмотров 993 года назад
After having scouted out the perfect spot (see my previous video), I returned to this epic location in the evening, ready to shoot my second-ever Holy Grail time lapse. The Burgos Hill top was surprisingly empty - I had feared that I'd have to fight for a spot. I quickly set up my tripod and, having the sunset at about 120 degrees to my right, I waited until only the towers of the Cathedral wer...
Camino de Santiago Time Lapse Series - 05: Burgos - daytime (Sep. 25, 2020)
Просмотров 703 года назад
On all my previous Caminos, I had no idea there was a hill looming right over the old historic center of Burgos and offering a magnificent view of the Cathedral and the downtown. I wanted to shoot another Holy Grail time lapse (coming up next), but since I arrived in Burgos early and had a lot of time, I decided to go up on the Hill in the afternoon to scout it out and pre-select a location for...
Camino de Santiago Time Lapse Series - 04: Atapuerca (Sep. 24, 2020)
Просмотров 723 года назад
This is my very first attempt at shooting a Holy Grail evening-to-night time lapse. I arrived in Atapuerca fairly late, and noticed that the skies had sufficient, but not too many clouds. The Church of San Martin Obispo is a few blocks to the right of the Camino, and it was hard to tell whether I would have a good shot of it, so it was a lucky gamble to find that the church is at the edge of to...
Camino de Santiago Time Lapse Series - 03: San Juan de Ortega, Castilla y León (Sep. 24, 2020)

The next in this mini time lapse series is a windy afternoon recording in front of the Monastery San Juan de Ortega, 1 day before reaching the city of Burgos. I didn't have anything to eat until getting here in the afternoon, so first thing - I enjoyed some delicious snacks from the local bar nearby and the windy quietness of this beautiful, scenic place. This time lapse was shot with Canon 6D ...
Camino de Santiago Time Lapse Series - 02: Eunate, Navarra

The second time lapse in this mini time lapse series is a recording of the Knights Templar Church Santa Maria de Eunate, on the Camino Aragones, just off the French Camino and near the town Obanos where the two Ways converge. This was shot with my Canon 6D Mark II camera on a tripod, thou there's still a bit of a shake due to the high winds that day (which made the clouds that much more interes...
Camino de Santiago Time Lapse Series - 01: Alto de Perdón, Navarra (Sep. 16, 2020)

The first one in this series is this mini time lapse recording done on the Alto de Perdón summit, roughly between Pamplona and Puente la Reina, on day 3 of the French Camino. Like in most places on the Camino in the COVID year 2020, this summit, normally filled with Pilgrims resting and picture-taking, was almost completely empty. I shot this time lapse with my iPhone 11 Max Pro, set on a tripo...

My Packing List in a Time Lapse - essentials and not only for my March 2020 Camino de Santiago (Way of St James)
What brand is your sleeping bag?
Thankyou for the vid, great information.
Thanks for your time!
Any time! Buen Camino!
I just returned from the Camino Frances April 2023. Prices are quite a bit higher than in this video… Municipal 7-10 Albergue 10-15 average 12€ Coffee 1,30-1,70 Pilgrim meal 12-15€
Thank you for your comment! Yes: the prices have increased quite a bit, and that started with COVID - businesses had to increase prices to stay operating with half the volume. I will be going on the Camino again soon, and will then update the prices.
@@caminographer705 buen camino! I plan to return in October… maybe our paths will connect!
How the hell does he get all that stuff in a 50 l rucksack????
Nice reassuring video, i'm good , definitely using a DSLR camera clip for my backpack strap so camera is close to hand, and the phone stays turned off at the bottom of the pack and a kindle. Thanks
Learned something from this video! Thanks!
So. Wonderful. You brought me back to the Camino. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Buen Camino!
Really Well Done. Thank You !!
Thank you so much - happy you've enjoyed it!
Клаааааас!!!!
🙏🥰
Nice, well done, brings back memories. Thank you.
Thank you so much, I'm very glad to hear that watching this video takes you back to your memories... Buen Camino!
Max, super commentary. Realistic and very grounded. I like your observation wrt avoiding the 'overs' - packing, planning, stressing... Great advice for many who's lives and plans are over-structured. I also appreciate your strong message that most things can be 'found' in N Spain! Thanks again for your guidance.
Much appreciated, Steven! Buen Camino!
How much cost to send the backpack from one town to another another town?
Based on where along the Camino you are, you can budget between 6 and 8 euros (prices as of end of 2022 season). Given the inflation, it wouldn't surprise me if they would go up a euro or 2 this season - let's see what happens, the season is about to begin. Buen Camino!
Great video! Where did you buy your sleeping bag? I've been looking for a small one. Greetings from México!
Thank you - glad you enjoyed the video! I got the sleeping bag years ago at an outdoors store in Germany. Not sure what's out there for sale in Mexico, but I imagine you could find quality products online these days. Suerte, y Buen Camino!
I just bought some of the Scholl's Deer Tallow Foot Cream from Germany an am looking forward to using it. Thanks for the tip!
Awesome: I hope it serves you well! Buen Camino!
I did not get the details about the massage oil you are mentioning around minute 12, can you please enlighten? great video by the way!
Thank you so much - happy you enjoyed the video! The massage oil I mention and use is Arnica Massage Oil by Weleda. I hope you can find it where you are at! Buen Camino!
Thanks man! And I totally get your hate for those microfibre towels! Ugh
hahahahaha thank you Mark - most people are fine with them, but... There's nothing like a real towel, even if it's impractical and weighty to carry. Buen Camino!
Beautiful! Can watch a thousand times!
I really loved your frankness and packing essentials.. And you remembered the 'female essentials' ( danke to your wife!!) I''m about to depart in 68days ...Spring => any possible weather combination!!! I will def look into your creams. Buen Camino
Thank you Hanna - I’m very happy to hear that you’ve found the video useful and helpful! April is an awesome time to be on the Camino, you will love the beautiful Spring! All the best wishes, and Buen Camino!
Great video. Do you mind posting the mames and or links of your gear? I'd liked to buy your sleeping bag and foot cream Thank you.
Thank you so much - happy you've found it useful! My sleeping bag - I got it 16 years ago before my first Camino, so I don't know if you can still get it, the name is "Freetime Mikropak 600D" - I am sure something similar is available, also depending on where you are in the World (this one was bought in Germany). As I said, important for me was the weight (600 g) as well as the fact that it has down/feathers. The foot cream is sold in every toiletry store in Germany, but I haven't seen it anywhere in the US, for example. So it depends where you live / shop. It's not a particular brand (there are various), but the type: deer tallow. The German word for deer tallow is Hirschtalg. I just put this German word into amazon.com - they have it: www.amazon.com/Balea-Foot-Cream-Hirschtalg-100/dp/B073YBKSZ5/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2XBE3AWOLBSCE&keywords=hirschtalg+creme&qid=1636282379&qsid=130-9612386-7216759&sprefix=hirschtalg%2Caps%2C150&sr=8-3&sres=B073YBKSZ5%2CB006IB5T4W%2CB00TTD9BRC%2CB01ES349CY%2CB000NWGCZ2%2CB00D14EJCC%2CB00AREGVUM%2CB01N7ULJSD%2CB074RDF9WN%2CB000JVCBBG%2CB0002QB9NE%2CB000ORV3NC%2CB07FM9HHYR%2CB001B1MZ5U%2CB01HOHBS6G%2CB084SFNJX4%2CB00314GCJU%2CB014MRR7NY%2CB0073E7JFK%2CB000H0JYYG&srpt=SKIN_MOISTURIZER I hope this helps, Jacqui - let me know if you have other questions. Buen Camino!
@@caminographer705 thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I will do my research and try to find it online, if not I do have fam. in Madrid and can pick up before I head out to the camino. Btw. Do you have plans to do a new camino? I have been struggling for months because I can't decide which one to choose. I have reduced my choices down to the Francés and Portuguese, but I'm stuck there. 😌 Any how, Blessings to you.
@@jacquidunbar6779 thank you Jacqui! I just finished another Camino Francés, and I’ll be happy to share my ideas about your choice (Francés vs. Portugués) that you’re stuck with: email me (caminographer (at) gmail.com) and let me know what you’re stuck with in deciding which Camino to walk… Buen Camino!
Max,,, It was a pleasure to spend time in the camino with you..... I did realy enjoy,,,, good luck with your new adventure... Regards... Juan ignacio Garcia Mexico
Being Australian we need a plug converter/socket for the phone...great list, thanks
True, good point, also applicable to other parts of the World - but also to any other type of travel. It'll be lovely to see more Australians back again on the Camino Buen Camino!
Thank you! Precious information for everyone who is up to join pilgrims on the Camino.
Any time!
Is camping allowed along the Camino at all?
Yes - many people do just that: they carry their camping gear and find places to pitch their tents for the night.
In the double occupancy private rooms, is it 30 euros for the room? Or 30 for each person? Im traveling with a partner and we are wondering if it doesnt make sense to just pay an extra 3-5 euro each per day to have private rooms. But I cant find anyone to confirm if the private rooms are 30 for the room (so 15 per person), or 30 per person in the private room.
The prices vary, depending on when and where you are, and they have gone up since the pandemic. Many of the private Albergues nowadays charge around 15 euros per bed in a shared dorm, and their double-rooms (for 2) tend to run at around 40 to 50 for 2. So yes - paying 5 euros per person extra could get you the comfort of a private double-room. Hope this helps, and Buen Camino!
What mos is it cold
November through early March, in higher altitudes and on the Meseta even October has chilly nights… Buen Camino!
Thank you very much... 2022 will be my first Camino walk from Sarria to Compostela....... Thanks and God Bless You.
Wonderful! I’m sure it’ll be an unforgettable experience. Buen Camino!
so far, in any packing video, I have not seen anybody mention how they transported the backpack on the plane. Carryon dimensions are too large. how does the pack fare as checked in baggage?
Michael: I never (!) had a problem carrying on my backpack (the one shown here) on board, and we’re talking 2005-2020, both on flights from / to the US as well as within Europe. Moreover, this is the “luggage” I covered quite a bit of distance with on my many adventures in Central and South America. I just always made sure the weight didn’t go over 10 kg and, if it did, I’d take something heavy out and put it on - depending on the trip, it would be the sweater / jacket, lately also my heavy camera, or what have you. Hope this helps, and Buen Camino!
Awesome and very practical vid! Thanks for sharing your experience! :)
Thank you so much: I’m happy you e found it useful! Buen Camino!
Strangely enough, I first thought it could have smth to do with Don Quichotte. But it's not! ))) Those people are Pilgrims, either on foot or on horseback, and they make their way along the Camino to Santiago. The sculpture was erected in 1996. Below, engraved into one of the monuments you can read: Donde se cruza el camino del viento con el de las estrellas. Which translates into English as: ... where the path of the wind crosses that of the stars. Thank you for this time lapse, Max.)
The best time lapse of Burgos I've ever seen. Super!
Thank you! But: wait till you see the next one! 🙂🙃
Very useful and precious information. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Max!
Buen Camino!
What is the footcream you mentioned??
I think the English name is deer tallow. It is widely sold in Germany, where it's called "Hirschtalg." To be honest, I've never seen or heard about it in the US - but that's also because I was always able to get it in Germany. Hope this helps...
Your accent is absolutely unique! I do not think too many people can guess your nationality!
Haha I sometimes find it challenging to guess my own nationality :))
German ?
Nice video. You have a lot of gear there. How much does your loaded pack weigh?
He said 5kg with the essential stuff on the right and 9kgs with all the stuff
@@FABM27 Got it. Thanks.
Thank you very much - happy to hear you've found it useful! Yes, it seems like a lot of gear, but that's also because of the extras I choose (!) to take along. Depending on the weight of the backpack itself - also an important factor - the essentials shouldn't weigh more than 4-6 kg - depending on the season you go which may imply more vs. less additional gear. Buen Camino!
Yes, a lot of useful and additional info. I like to watch a lot of similar videos when preparing for a trip/journey to pick up the best advice and make my own plan. In this case my own customized packing-list. I will look for "Hirsch Talg" and the other feet product you mentioned - or find something similar in Denmark😉👌
Thank you Gunnar - glad you've found this useful! You're absolutely right: watch what others have to say, get ideas here and there, but then make your own, custom choices! I hope you can find Hirschtalg in Denmark; if not - perhaps you can order it from Germany (they sell it at stores like DM or Rossmann, and it is very inexpensive). Pretty much every German Pilgrim I've met on my Caminos swears by it and attributes lack of blisters to the use of it... Buen Camino!
Well done, Max! Good to see you, my peregrino friend. I often think back to our wonderful camino in 2017. Say hi to Andrea!
Thank you so much, Amigo Peregrino! Hope all is well! Any plans to return on the Camino any time in foreseeable future? Buen Camino!
Pretty cool! I am not planning anytime soon, but it is just entertaining to learn more.
Awesome - glad you enjoyed it!
Very useful infos👌
