How Strengthening Your SERRATUS ANTERIOR Can Help with Overhead Shoulder Flexibility
Your *serratus anterior* is an often overlooked muscle when it comes to working on our arms overhead shoulder flexibility (shoulder flexion), but it's a crucial player along with our rotator cuff muscles to help align the bones of our shoulder to be in the *best* position to reach those arms up and back.

Bodyweight good mornings (www.daniwinksflexibility.com/flexopedia/good-mornings-hamstring-stretch) are one of my favorite active hamstring flexibility drills. But for folks who find those too easy and are looking for a fun challenge, adding in an active back and shoulder flex component can be a fun multi-tasking addition!

I could only reach to the top of my kneecap when I started. I'm now down 9 inches from that point and I've only done this routine 9 times (every other day). The quick progress is unreal. Thank you.

Thanks for this easy-to-digest and very informative video, I never understood external/internal rotation so well and intuitively! I do struggle with this kind of sitting position though (my instep hurts). Does a cross-legged sitting position change the effectiveness of the exercises in any way?

Great video, Dani! Is serratus the muscle that is most responsible for the last 10 degrees of overhead flexibility (i.e for handstands)? Or is it some combo of serratus, lower traps...? Shoulder flexibility is very difficult for me to decipher. There are so many muscles involved that I'm completely lost.

Holy smokes! This video was so right on the money! Honestly I did not even know that I followed your channel. I’m a Partner Acro Standing Base, and meddle a tiny bit as a handstander. So a lot of overhead stuff. I’m constantly annoyed of my right scapula, which easily tend to “flag out”, especially when I push my interior shoulder rotation limit. The final exercise you showed might just be the strengthening that I need to bulletproof my wrapping in fully extended positions.

Great video! I do want to add though, as a person with low back pain, I find that leaning forward in front splits is like one of the best hamstring stretches because now only half your hip flexors are tugging on your pelvis and resisting forward rotation. But I try to be mindful and still make sure my hip flexors gets the love they deserve!

Hi Danny, I just found out about your channel and website. I'm really having a hard time getting my front split completely on the ground. I've been trying for almost 2 years now, and although I've seen progress, I'd like to finally make it. Which program from your library would you recommend? My hamstrings are approximately 1 inch away from the ground

You are a FANTASTIC teacher! You give the best flexibility information I've heard. I looked up "learn contortion over 40" & read about a woman who started her training at 43. I'm currently 43, so I was thrilled! Although I assumed any real & helpful information would be behind a pay wall, I clicked the Flexopedia expecting dictionary style definitions. You can't imagine how incredibly grateful & encouraged I am right now for such accessible & high-quality information. I just can't believe such an amazing flexibility professional has a RUclips channel. I've lived with a chronic illness since birth, which made me homebound for several years. I'm quite excited to rebuild my flexibility. I credit my flexibility, fairly active lifestyle &, more importantly, my faith with my ability to lie in bed for months at a time without becoming stiff. After 5 years of being in hospital 3-6mos per year & having bilateral hip replacement at 22, I'm slightly stiff, but more flexible than most. Thank you very much for helping me regain my life. Irl/virtual classes aren't possible right now, but the fountain of resources you've provided for free is overjoying.
