Hi there, my name is Arne and if you're new to the channel, in addition to various home DIY projects, I look after the facilities maintenance end of things at a multi-campus K-12 school (plus a Preschool & Daycare) in Langley, BC. With nearly 1300 students, 200 staff, 5 campus' and various other outbuildings, there's always something to do.
I love my job; not only does the work I do benefit many, every day brings new challenges, which keeps me on my toes and in problem-solving mode.
Stay safe and be kind to one another!

    How frustrating. I know how you felt because I've been dealing with a leak in my concrete stream with no liner for years. I'm pretty sure that I've isolated the individual pond that it's in and have tried epoxy, spray foam,, acrylic concrete sealer, and last night, an epoxy concrete sealer that is supposed to work under water. It seemed to have held overnight, so I started the pump again, only to find that the pump lost vacuum after a few hours and the water level has gone down again after re-priming and refilling the stream. The mystery is that there is no indication of where the water is going. Maybe back into the aquifer? I'm thinking that I might be dealing with more than one issue. Next step is to turn off the pump and see if the same pond is still losing water and if it is, I'll try food coloring to see where it's leaking.

      Their true value will be measured over time, I think. In the 3+ years we have been using them in other locations I've only had one issue where I had to replace a handful of them at once due to a power brown out... otherwise they have been fairly reliable... and their cost is coming down. As for the actual lighting ability, it is arguably a nicer light - more even, adjustable colour and brightness, and none of that low-level fluorescent buzzing, which is nice. Thanks for watching!

    Nice start to the work as always, As you have electricians on site, can they lengthen the motion Sensor ‘Lights out’ time to perhaps an hour ? That way, you will at least get an hour’s work in, before being plunged into darkness, but the lights will still get automatically turned off (just a little longer) when the rooms not in use ?? Being LED lighting, there shouldn’t really be any cost deficit 🤷‍♂️ Look forward to part 2

    Background music = instant Dislike.

    • @facilitiesmaintenancebyarne
      @facilitiesmaintenancebyarne Месяц назад

      I'm curious... is it the music choice (type, genre, style, etc.) itself that you don't like, or the fact that there is background music? Have we become so entitled as a society that we openly critique that which we don't have to lift a finger for? (that's a rhetorical question). Most things in life are subjective, I get that, but since the music does not detract from the value of the content, and since it is my video (not yours), negative comments about something that someone else has put a huge amount of work into, reveals something about the character of those who criticize that which they benefit from and receive for free. As a content creator I spend hundreds of hours actually doing the work; recording the work; producing, editing and then uploading the content for you to use and (hopefully) learn from. I do this all on my own time. I don't get paid to create it, and it costs you absolutely nothing to view it - in fact, you do so by your own choice. And yet, rather than appreciate the content, you criticize it. I invite you to do better.

    One thing about camper rv's, maintenance. Any little leak will rot the floors. You may think that you sealed the rubber roof but since most rv roofs are 1/4" plywood stapled to the roof rafters, the staples end up popping thru the rubber and thus causing small leaks. Marker lights, j-channel gutter screws and vent seams all seam to leak over time. They don't make campers to last or they go out of business. I have a park model trailer( not one to go camping with) that has a pitched shingled roof, 5/8" tongue and groove plywood floor and 2x4 walls. Most campers have 2x2 walls and OSB floors and cheap plumbing that tends to leak. You are basically putting lipstick on a pig. Lol

    Binge watched this whole series and that turned out pretty good. I will likely be helping my son replace the floor in his old camper that I gave him. It had a soft floor when I bought it and just decided to give it to him as I found it wasn't for me and my wife (a hybrid). Your videos gave me ideas on how to tackle it although it has actual aluminum floor joists. The previous owner just slapped a sheet of plywood over the rot and is now just soft and things are off kilter from the extra height. You experience with the laminate tells me to use vinyl flooring. Thanks and enjoy camping.

    I’m doing this exact job to a trailer right now. I’m lucky, I’m just in the bed/pass thru area. My styrofoam is 1 1/2” thick so I am going to use 1 1/2” square steel tubing for ‘joists’. I will cut ‘flaps’ at each end and screw each end to the square tubing under the wall. That will support the wall and tie everything together. It will be structurally fine (16” OC) and won’t rot again. A huge pain, but if I get a few more years out of my RV it will be worth it.

    • @facilitiesmaintenancebyarne
      @facilitiesmaintenancebyarne 2 месяца назад

      That should be plenty strong. You’ve probably already thought about this, but if you haven’t just be aware that 1 1/2 in.² steel tubing at 3/16 of an inch thick is about 3 pounds a foot, so you could potentially be adding 500 pounds to your base trailer weight… Something to consider with regards to the GVW of the trailer.

    • @rickschlosser6793

      @@facilitiesmaintenancebyarne I am using 0.100 wall thickness, about 50’ of it. The weight is about 100 pounds, so not egregiously heavy. But I never considered weight. Plus I have to ensure no wire conduit in the floor. I doubt there is any, but I have to confirm.

      @facilitiesmaintenancebyarne 2 месяца назад

      Well, if you want to do it yourself DAP makes a professional spray foam kit that will cover 600 ft.² at 1 inch thick. The cost is $1200 from Home Depot in Canada, but I don’t know where you live so your mileage may vary on that as well as different product availability, depending on your location. I would also think that you may want to have at least 2 inches of insulation, which would mean you’d want to double up on this kit so to do it yourself, at least here in Canada, the potential cost would be north of $2500. Personally I would get some quotes on having a spray foam company come in and spray it, because my time is valuable and DIY cost is fairly high.

    Great post. Any ideas on how to insulate from heat as i plan to use a container for my dogs to sleep in.

      Thanks! Spray foam, all the way. Any other will not have intimate contact and an imperfect seal between the insulation and the shell and allow for air movement... which leads to trapped condensation.

    Thanks for posting this, I had ordered a solar fan I was going to install into the door to pull air in. After watching this video I cancelled the fan and ordered the whirlybird. I had thought of doing this but didn't know how I'd install on a non-flat roof. I installed exactly as you show in this video. I'm just waiting on some side vents to finish everything. Have the same exact moisture problem in mine with a moldy ceiling. I appriciate you posting this video!
