DOUG DAVIDSON - Star (Of My Teenage Dream) (MOA, 1959)
Just heard it on the radio !
Very powerful guitar and vocal in comparison with other versions I have listened to.
This is my uncle song the brother of my grandfather
Jeffery, thank you for the comment. Can you share any details about Rufus Brown? I posted what few details I could find in 2012 on the following webpage. Sincerely, -Chris shreveportsongs.blogspot.com/2012/09/rufus-brown-somewhere-over-mountain-bw.html
Jimmie Rodgers
This is great! Who is the guitarist? Is the band the Nite Hawks? Excellent
I'm gueessing this is completely related to trumpeter John(ny) McGhee from this time?
14 February 1937 Adolphus Hotel, Dallas, TX - Leon’s Lone Star Cowboys (Leon Chappelear [vcl-1/gt], Howard Oliver [banjo], Carl Rainwater [steel], Slim Harbert [bass], Lonnie Hall [fiddle], Hugh Berry [clarinet])

This is my mother's church pastor and friend. I used to go to Zion Baptist church and hear this song live. Wonderful spirit of GOD ran through the church. My mother is still a member in 2020.

I only wish I could find a surviving episode of Old Man Henderson's KWKH
These great legends of the gospel singing era, was on the way to becoming some of the greatest gospel singers of all time, had they not separated, but then came back as the Golden Gospel Jubilee singers, but not a lot of people recognized them from before.
Putting the wrong context, I was expecting it to be about a waitress. Yet another variation on the Mississippi Sheiks "Sittin 'On Top of the World" blues number.
Came here to say this. Good call.
A very different version than the typical Fannin Street....
O MELHOR!!!
John Lee Hooker influenced or vice-versa? Prefer the other side "Avenue Breakdown" but both are great.
Good question. JLH's first recording was 1948, whereas Country Jim's was 1949, though Country Jim was recording in LA, and JLH's recordings did not start charting until 1949. So if there is a direct influence (which it's hard to believe there's not, given how similar their playing), it's likely that Country Jim heard JLH first. But this is hardly a pale imitation of JLH if there is direct influence. Country Jim is the captain of his own ship, as you can also hear here: ruclips.net/video/5FXJld0xffc/видео.html
@@Edward-vs4hz It's actually that John Lee Hooker had a stepfather from Shreveport who taught him, a man named Will Monroe. This style is unique to the Ark-La-Tex....compare Clarence London, Country Jim Bledsoe, David "Pete" McKinley and Johnny Beck (the latter was from Carthage, Texas, but that is only 30 miles southwest of Shreveport, and 30 miles due west of Mansfield, where London,. McKinley and Bledsoe were from.
this moment in gospel music, the Holy Spirit truly moved.
I remember that at Carver Heights Baptist Church in Dallas Texas
Everytime Pastor Blade sing this you be ready to just tear up the church,Shouting and praising God. Lord hve Mercy !!!!!
No one can sing this song with such spirit and soul...Than Pastor Blade,Sr.
Hasil Adkins does Slim Harpo?
Thank you for uploading this really incredible performance by one of my favorite Texas-based territory bands! I can't get enough of that bass saxophone!
So very cool.. some friends and I have a business now on Texas ave.
