From a cold start up how long to reach oven baking/roasting temperature? Is it true that house holders had to keep these stoves fired 24 hours a day lest they cool too much and have to start over. Oh and what is the oven temperature? Thx!

Hi Proberly about a half hour to forty five minutes from a cold start. The dryer the wood and size will result in a faster temp.I don't know about keeping the stove going 24 hrs in the summer . In the winter the stove was going 24 hrs .They usally put them in their summer kitchen depending where they lived.

Your video just saved me a huge service bill. We have had a Queen Atlantic for 10 years, purchased it totally refurbished, and absolutely love it. Cleaned it religiously every year. Started smoking at times through the burners this fall when the oven damper is closed. Thought well maybe an internal crack has developed or something, i was quite disappointed as we would be lost without this stove this winter, or had to limp it along til spring putting up with a little smoke. So fast forward to last night and some how stumbled across your video, you showed the clean out under the oven! Im quite embarrassed to say that i never knew about the clean out under the oven!! It was packed full of course, cleaned it and the Queen is brand new again! Thanks for your video!!

I'm restoring a Monarch Malleable. It's black and nickle. I was going to use stove polish but decided to use high temp stove paint. I wanted polish but it's never ending, once a week to be done properly and doesn't add long term protection for the stove. My question to you, is your stove top painted like the rest of your stove or is it seasoned like a cast iron pan? Thanks for any information you can give and making the video on your stove

Hi,the stove was painted with high temp paint when it was restored. The paint over the fire box has burned off over the years.I now polish the top every week when in use.I have replaced the Herald with a newly restored Union Crawford, the Herald is now in our farm house in New York and I'm considering repainting the top.I may do a video on the Crawford.

@@notoffthegrid618 Hello thank you for the speedy reply I appreciate it. I was thinking the paint above the firebox would burn off so I haven't painted it yet. I will polish the top then, if it works for you should work for me. What type of polish do you use? I have Rutland liquid polish readily available but not the paste. I could order in paste however. I tried the liquid on my stove before I decided to paint it with no luck. It simply would adhere. It was clean, I even used acetone to make sure no oil or debris would cause a problem
