Hi Paul & Michelle Glad you liked the video. It’s one we uploaded last year after our top end trip. Unfortunately, somebody put a copyright claim on it, so I deleted it, changed the music and uploaded it again. I could have left the original one as it was but it annoys the crap out of me when all the music I use is licensed. We left for WA on Easter Tuesday and headed south to Holbrook before making our way across the Murray Valley. We freecamped at Cohuna and Wentworth. Both good RV stops run by the local councils. We then spent 3 nights in Nuriootpa catching up with friends. Tonight we are camping at the Melrose Showgrounds. We were planning to head to Pildappa Rock tomorrow night but have just discovered it’s now a day use area only. We hope to camp at Bunda Cliffs and maybe the Head of the Bight, depending on the weather. From there we will make our way to Esperance and Lucky Bay for the start of our WA adventure. Enjoy your trip. I hope the weather is OK. Luckily we dodged the East Coast Low that hit not long after we left. Safe travels. Cheers Peter & Annette

I read that too about Pildappa Rock, We stayed there a couple of years back was nice but was a bit of a mess with rubbish. I did hear that there was going to be a new donation camp area away from the rock. Might be worth checking. enjoy your trip to WA. looking forward to the pics. Cheers Paul & Michelle

Hi Paul & Michelle. It’s great to hear from you. We have been looking out for videos of your next northern adventure. In 2017 we did our first big outback trip heading from Boulia to Alice via the Plenty Hwy and EMR. Then on to WMR, Kings Canyon, Palm Valley, Uluru & Rainbow Valley. From there we followed the Old Ghan Heritage Trail and Oodnadatta Track to Lyndhurst, with side trips to Chambers Pillar and The Painted Desert. From Lyndhurst we headed to Innamincka and the Dig Tree via the Strzelecki Track. It was an awesome experience. This video is made up of photos taken on that trip - in the reverse order to our route. Hopefully it might help anyone planning a similar trip. We are not long back from the Eyre Peninsula. What a spectacular place! In early July we are heading to the Top End via Western QLD, then heading back home to the Hunter Valley via the Red Centre. That should take care of most of the winter! Cheers Peter & Annette

Hi Paul & Michelle In 1974 we travelled through the NSW Snowy Mountains and the Victorian High Country in our 1968 Holden Belmont Panel Van. We slept in the back and our camping equipment included an esky, two-burner stove, gas bottle, hot plate, lantern, tarp, two folding chairs and a shovel. We used the tailgate as a table. The tool kit comprised a shifter, screwdriver, wheel brace and a hammer. The panel van was two wheel drive, had a three-speed column shift with no synchromesh on first gear, a 161 motor, no air-conditioning and manual wind-up windows with flipper vents to direct the air. The heater didn’t work but the speakers salvaged from an old HMV radiogram and fitted between the rear panels and connected to an AWA state-of-the-art push-button radio / cassette player, made the whole van rock to the sounds of Cream, Led Zeppelin, Iron Butterfly, Traffic and Jimi Hendrix. On the flat, top speed was about 60 mph. A tank of fuel cost $8. Petrol stations in the suburbs closed at midday Saturday and didn’t reopen until Monday morning. Many country service stations didn’t open at all on weekends. There were no ATMs, EFTPOS machines, credit cards, mobile phones, internet, email or GPS. Cash was king! Public telephones, if they worked and you had enough coins, were the only means of communication, apart from letters and telegrams. Some country pubs opened on Sundays for bona fide travellers who purchased a meal. Otherwise, everything was closed. On that trip we drove to the summit of Mt Kosciusko. That’s something that you cannot do in a Disco! The access road (long since closed) was a very steep, narrow winding track with little if any room to pass another vehicle. The climb up was challenging enough but on the way down we encountered a tourist bus! The bus pulled over, hard up against the bank. With the driver waving us on we inched along the edge of what Annette said very much looked like a vertical drop off into the abyss. From Bright we headed east following the Great Alpine Road, which would have been better described as a very rough track. As we drove through Harrietville, Mt. Hotham, Dinner Plain and on to Omeo we didn’t see anybody. Apart from cattle grazing along the track, we had the high country to ourselves! From Omeo we headed to Lakes Entrance before making our way home along the coast. Those were the days! Cheers Peter & Annette
