Hey Pete, cool video! Looks amazing to fly there. Did you have to register yourself somwehre in malta, or can you just go and fly there?
@@Husse43 thanks very much. I contacted a local pilot and he said just turn up and follow the rules on paragliding log book App. The wind direction seemed to change day by day and was occasionally strong. I went in December and really enjoyed it.
@@petejones482 Okey, thank you for the quick response :) I'm goning in november, hoping to have some good winds.
Nice spot. Is there any permission you have to ask for on the airport / tower?
Hello, it's a great site. Maximum 400m ASL and don't fly past the radar dome. More info on ParaglidingMap App.
Impressed, very impressed. Thank you.
Great vid. When you cored down the engine didn't get close to the limit line. It looks like it stayed right in line with you. Like the limit lines wouldn't be necessary. I set up a hanging mock up and put the weight(40#s) 3' behind my harness boot and besides more pressure on my chest in the harness it felt very controllable but heavy. I moved the weight close to the boot like an explorer or mosquito and it was way less pressure on the chest (like normal hanging weight) but very similar in controllability. The engine wants to stay in place while you apply bank input. I was pretty happy with the controllability, weight at boot and out where prop is located. The extra pressure feels like you have more authority for maneuvering but might get tiresome over time. Loved the video, especially when you circled to get down. Very informative. Thanks a bunch!
Pilotage aux petits oignons 😅😅
J'ai volé avec une baguette lors du dernier run. 😉
Hey man ! Was that your first speedwing or did you have a bigger one before ?
I first got an Ozone Firefly 16m, did about 15 short flights then bought the 13m Mirage, now flying an 11m Mirage. I'm light at 70kg.
@@petejones482 nice thanks for the quick reply! 13m maybe is small for a first Speedwing at 90kgs
@@MrTheXyo if you've got paraglider experience it helps. Starting on a 16m is a good idea to get used to the higher landing speeds and steeper approaches than a regular sized paraglider.
How is this filmed ?
It is filmed with an Insta X3 360 camera on a selfie stick attached to the rear of my harness. You may see the shadow of it. The video is then edited with the Insta360 software to make a 16:9 video.
@@petejones482 ok. I asked specifically because I couldn’t catch it on the shadow, so it looked like some black magic !
Oh yeah it is clearer at take off indeed. Impressive run btw !

Hi Pete, that was scary and amazing. A video like that should go viral. All the best, Rob. [Shared]
Thanks Rob, speedflying is really great fun. I uploaded this so I can watch it on the big telly when I'm home and need a flying fix. Hope you're keeping well dude.
@@petejones482 I'm good ta, looking to get back into paragliding after a lengthy hiatus (ooo, 6-7 years I guess). Been watching a load of the Andre Bandarra videos and that Leavesley fella over last few weeks. Very uplifting and inspirational, so much so that I've bought a kit off ebay (gasps of horror lol). I've even written a history of the Eggmotor book. I got the wife and Brian at Cloudhoppers to proof read. Trouble is, Amazon just terminated my kdp publishing account as a note book I published had a trademark image within the front cover. So I'm appealing that but not hopeful. Other than that, tied up with househusband stuff, dog walking, shopping, etc., etc. Y'know, all the stuff that gets in the way of flying. Anyhoo, enough of my ranting. Hope all is good your end. Rob.
I’ll turn 71 later this month. A few years back I sold my powered harness and all my gliders. So now, whenever I get the itch, I pull up one of your videos and they scratch it. Thank you, Pete!
That's awesome 👍 I haven't flown a hang glider since before COVID, I've been paragliding and speedflying. HG is still in my blood.

I'm thinking of stepping up from Mito to Muira RS. Or should I go Arcus 2 RS straight?🤔 . Been flying Mito since 2019
It depends on your natural feel for the glider and the conditions you fly in. In UK we have relatively calm conditions and the Miura feels very subdued. I've been flying PG since 2001 and gliders have improved massively in that time. For the last 4 years I've been flying an Advance Pi2 23m and it's a lot more 'direct' and 'positive' than the Miura, but the Miura feels extremely stable and secure in rough air. It depends where you will fly it and how you like your glider to 'feel'. Miura had long brakes and a 'solid' feel.
@@petejones482 I fly here in Germany mostly. Flatlands and alpine. The Mito is great for rough air for example.
@@petejones482 someone told me since I have flown the Mito I should skip the Muira because it's pretty similar and go straight for the Arcus 2 RS 🤔
You certainly get around mate 😎👌

Hey Pete you ok did you go to that field to fly from I think 2 days ago flying over cfon but closer to the air field with a white wing
Wasn't me buddy, we were flying near Dwygyfylchi last week though.
Nice😎👌
Nice one Pete, great flying 👍
Looks like a great site & a great flight 😎👌
Cracking vid there Pete.
Imagine if that was a scree field... But if it was I'm sure you wouldn't be cutting it so close. Good to see you didn't get wrecked. You were balls deep in them breaks.. that's wild. You ever try using the C's for proxy? You get better control over your glide angle without slowing the glider down like you did there.
My big mistake was turning downwind too quickly to try to make it back to my van, there's a forest to overfly on the way, last flight after walking up 6000ft+ over 7 flights (ruclips.net/video/hDGReymzZdg/видео.html). The camera angle looking from below makes the brake position look worse, I realised I wouldn't outglide the slope so I slowed up and slid to a halt. I'm practicing flying on the rear risers, got a Mirage 2RS 13m now.
Nice one Pete! Smoooooth
Thanks dude, I'm settling in to it, trying out trims and roll reversals, hoping to get some high flights soon and try riser control with and without trims.
Right next to the vehicle, top job :)
link 4 diverter cable please?

You have to much brake , Thike about the fact of flying hands up and touche the brake only when you need it or for turn but most of time hands up
The camera angle makes it look like a lot of brake. When I realised I wouldn't outglide the slope I slowed up and skidded to a halt on the smooth grass.
Nice one Pete!
I know you were trying to make it back to your vehicle, but why did you not turn away from the hill? Seems like your flight path was side hilling the slope. It seems like turning away from the hill and going hands up might have helped. Glad it was a gentle grassy slope and not rocky!
Thanks for the comment. It's a conical hill with a shallow slope, I was heading directly down and hoped to outglide the slope. It was made worse by turning downwind directly after takeoff. Totally my fault, I'd hiked up over 6000ft and had 7 flights from other hills by this point and the idea of flying to the van and having a cup of tea was a strong reason to takeoff. Straight away I walked to a steeper section and relaunched.
@@petejones482 ahhh gotcha, it so hard to tell what terrain actually looks like from action cam videos. Thanks for the reply! Won't do that again eh!
@@nickbraun2488 thanks. Lesson learnt 👍
More of an unplanned landing, really.
What a great day! 😎👍
Thanks, it was a great day👍
Awesome Vid Pete!, the editing effort paid off.. I enjoyed that and even fancy a go haha.
Thanks dude. Glad you've got the electric scooter registered 👍
Hey Pete, glad you're alright and uninjured. You're quite heavy on the toggles - I'm aware you're probably thinking 'I'm not going to make it over this point' but you'd get much further full drive, hands all the way up, and following the slope where you can without pushing it in toggles, reducing the canopies speed and thus the glide. I'm considering an adventure up that way on the next weekend it looks good so maybe see you around =] All the best.
Thanks, I was thinking about getting legs down and flaring but would've probably face planted so I slowed up and slid to a halt. After turning downwind I quickly realised I wouldn't outglide the shallow slope.
Whoops. But that smooth grass was better than the launch surface of Babadag that I got to know so intimately 🙂

H I'm getting close to installing my heater and would like to set up the push button fill you did. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the electronics. I imagine you use some sort of relay? Is your push button momentary or locking?
It's a momentary switch which powers the relay, the relay then energizes itself through the float switch, when the level rises and the float breaks the circuit the relay is no longer energized and shuts, cutting off power to the solenoid valve. Hope that explains it, I'm not great with electrics and drew the circuit diagram on paper to figure it out.
@@petejones482 Could you please share parts numbers or links to the relay & float switch? Great installation very neat.
