Guam's HIDDEN Beach Paradise

In this video I am showing you a place i've been wanting to visit for a while to see if it is really worth the trip. Guam is known for many public and crowded beaches, but did you know others are less visited and more hidden? Well, this video will aim to give you a glimpse of such beaches. You will see the reality of some beaches on the island and how they are mistreated. You will see how peopl...
Guam's ABANDONED Beach Hotels
Просмотров 7 тыс.21 день назад
This is a video i've always thought about making. Even more, I would love to get an inside view of these hotels to see what they really look like. Since it might not be safe or a good idea to do so, i'll keep my distance. Did you know Guam has 2 big abandoned hotels right on the beach? It's such a shame that this beach front space is going to a waste for the last 2-3 years. Hopefully things wil...

It's been a while since I've stepped on the board. After just about 4 months, I've decided to try and skate more often again. This video will be a low-key first-day-back video. Watch as I try to get comfortable and test out my new setup. Don't worry, I won't be making a lot of skate vlogs like these but just some to capture my progress going forward. Thanks for watching and see you in the next ...
Guam's AMAZING Diving & Snorkeling is Here...

In Episode 3 of this series, we check out Guam's #1 snorkel & dive spot. This is The Fisheye. The Fisheye is a marine life observatory where visitors can enjoy views of coral reefs from an enclosed structure. The price is a little pricy to walk out on the structure and see the marine life through the glass window. I think it's best to get the full experience by hopping in the water. I have visi...
Guam's Marine Life is THRIVING!! (So Many Fish)

In Episode 2 of this series, I take you along for a snorkel at Gun Beach. This beach destination is known for great snorkeling and scuba diving. I must warn you that this is a snorkel beyond the reef of Tumon Bay. The currents and conditions can be dangerous depending on the weather and time of the year. If you find the right time to go, you'll love it. Old pipes are running from the beach out ...

It is looking fresh with the vibrant colors, bringing it back to life. There are still some repairs needed, but this is a huge step forward. Come along for a fun little skate video as I test out the new paint and try to revive som...

Asiga is a newish cafe near Agana Bay offering a trendy atmosphere and a selection of baked goods, coffee, and ice cream. The second place is a channel near the Piti power plant in which you can see some super beautiful transparent water with local marine life. It is also a tourist destination so don't be sur...
What Life in GUAM is Really Like 🇬🇺

After living on Guam for about 1 year (technically 9 months due to a 3-month travel), I have fully understood what I love and hate here. In this video, I break down the 5 things I have come to really enjoy about life on the island, as well as the 5 things that drive me absolutely nuts. As I break down these 10 points, I explore Ritidian's Lotte Loop to see what the Guam jungles (if you can call...

I returned to the Dededo Skatepark for a little skate challenge. In this video, I try to do as many tricks as my age requires. Recently, I turned 30, so that's 30 tricks to do. Watch to see how many I can accomplish. I thought it would be quite challenging for the hour or so I had at the skatepark. P.S. Hey matt alot of your comments are based on you not having any real knowledge you say a lot. I don't know if it's true or not. Please do some research before posting guam in a bad light. FYI, there is no nuclear power plant
Not necessarily...there are a lot of comments that would say differently. "Real knowledge"?...lol. This isn't a deep dive into 20 things tourists don't know, but a glimpse at what one might not know. Some that are positive and others not so positive (could be positive one day). If I were to provide sources and further knowledge about each point, this video would be 2 hours long (that would be boring). I mentioned plenty of great things about the island, but some people probably haven't fully watched it. Some people get butt-hurt about how things aren't going so good on the island, but in today's world, that's how it works as nothing is perfect. If you think this video puts Guam in a bad light, you most likely are very sensitive and might want to dig deeper into what else is happening here. Btw...I've already added a comment saying that I didn't mean "nuclear" when it came to the power plant and it just came out but that was my bad for mistaking the correct power plant form. Is what it is...
he didn't mention the tree snakes and lack of birds
Hahaha true forgot that one. Maybe I should do a wildlife video of Guam. Birds are almost non-existent, because of Brown tree Snake and same with the bats, from snakes and people.
6:41 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 🚗
When I edited this, I was like what a coincidence
I agree with everything you said!
It's just the truth, at least from my prospective
Thank you!!! Your video was very honest and very real. I considered moving to Guam but I had no one to ask for information, until I found your video. This was REALLY INFORMATIVE and easy to follow. I felt like I was going on a tour. I look forward to hearing from you on EVERY trip you take!
Thanks for watching and i'm glad you found it informative. Felt like it was better than talking from a desk ya know
Been wanting to go hiking here, never had the chance. Thanks for the tour, now i know what it looks like 😀.good to go hiking early morning or 5pm.too hot here.🥵
Yes that is correct. Mornings are better, nights are risky as you need flashlights on the return haha
Don’t wanna mess with them sea urchins! Lol
Def not!
So true. Thank you! Beautiful island but too much trash all around.
It really is beautiful but the trash situation is a sad reality. Some people can't respect the land and dispose of things properly
Pacific star used to be Marriot.
Ah as I have heard
Owners have passed away idk if any children or family left???
But the owners didn't sell it? Or it is only on one of those like 99 year loans?
Your video is super clear! What kind of GoPro do you have? I just started scuba diving in Guam this year and want to get into filming while down there to show my family how beautiful it is! 😊👏🏻
Thanks! Currently using the GoPro Hero 10 with waterproof housing. I recommend using a 10 or higher. Also, recommend filming in 2.7k over 1080p. You should do it! I bet you will see amazing things. Depending on the depth you go, your camera might require lens filters to catch the correct colors at certain depths
@@MattReardonVlogs Thanks so much! I'll definitely do some research about lens. We've gone down to 60 ft so far, but it's also really incredible at just 25-30 ft! 👏🏻🤿🐠
Snorkeling in Guam is top quality, but everyone and everything else in Guam is trash. Super depressing culture / vibe. I will never go back.
I notice Guam and Saipan don't like to tear down derelict buildings. Have more pride in you Islands people. You have forgotten you live in a special place. Pick up your trash, stop ditching cars and dumping appliances.
Yeah it's a sad thing. They sit for a while until someone buys it up...then they take ages to do anything with them. Unfortunately, people decide to dump things because they don't want to pay the pricy fee to have it disposed of the right way
That beach used to be a popular and nice beach where I used to swim and hang out when it was called NCS. I also swam at that power plant. The last time I went down there to check out that beach there were a bunch of other sketchy islanders (not from Guam) hanging out there drinking alcohol and dumping their garbage everywhere...yes it was a very sad sight to see. I hope the government will take that beach back and restore it soon. Thank you Matt for the beach update.
Oh that's how it was. I hope the same. Could be a really nice place to be. Improve the park, repave the road, open a snack shop/little store, and it will be a lovely place again. Hopefully one day soon. Thanks for watching!
The hidden beaches with turquoise water ❤️ Matt can you show us the lively part of Guam where tourists go 🙏
Hey! Yes, one of these days i'll make a video of where all the tourists hang out. Just gotta find the time away from my everyday job haha. Good request :)
Beautiful spot indeed Matt! A lot of the trash and abandoned vehicles were left by the homeless that camped out there. It was big campsite for them during COVID.
Oh wow that's crazy. Just hate how much people leave their trash behind
Been waiting for this one!!!! Great coverage and truths!!!❤❤❤ Also made me want to come back for a swim ahaha 😂without all the trash and stuff ahahahha
Right. It does look inviting for a swim but i'd prefer to do so near the Mushroom rock
Sadly every secluded nature spot on Guam becomes a dumping ground and a hangout for sketchy people. Back when that power plant was still in operation we use to park up there so our cars won't get broken into. Those buildings down there are private beach clubs that cater to tourist. There is a private road to drive down but the gate is sometimes closed. In an area near that gate or inside that gate there are remnants of ancient houses (Latte stones). Just a little farther down from Sharks hole there's a small jungle trail that leads to Lost pond.
Very well put
Ahhh interesting. So that is where lost pond is...I wonder if there is water still there too?
@@MattReardonVlogs Yea should be Plenty of water with the recent rains.
Hi Matt…had to change the noti so I can watch it every time you upload. So sad to see those abandoned hotels. How is tourism in Guam especially that area? I always wanted 2go2 Guam but didn’t because I think there weren’t that many airlines that I could fly standby back then. I didn’t wanna get bumped 😂. I went to Fiji, Tahiti n Bora Bora instead where I had plenty of airlines to choose from. Sofitel Hotel just recently closed for business here in the 🇵🇭. I just hope they remodel/renovate and not abandon it just because it’s built more than 50+ years ago. The good thing about the 🇵🇭 is there are a lot of investors. There are so many projects going on right now.
Hi Thanks! Yeah, haven't been posting much so i've fallen in the algorithm for people's home pages. Tourism is usually good but from what I have heard, it isn't as strong as it used to be prior to Covid-19 and past typhoon. The airline issue is such a bummer. United has a monopoly on the flights here so thats why options are limited. So far, we can only fly to Philippines, South Korea, Japan, and Mainland Hawaii (also a couple other small nearby islands). No direct flights elsewhere :( Unfortunately, it seems as if there aren't a lot of investors here, and if there are, they aren't doing much with their money. That's what I love about the Philippines too. I'm due for a visit there. Miss it! Thanks for watching! :)

HAHA appreciate the devotion my friend 😃
Have you ever been to Marizo/Malesso
one time I think
I had my junior and senior prom here, went to high school right up the road, John f Kennedy high school. I remember going in the ball room and the main lobby. I used to go to the gym that was in the pacific star hotel.
Oh right, so close to each other you can walk within ten minutes. I bet those are some fine memories
Yeah we just moved here in February and everytime we passed we looked at the same. It definitely looks crazy!
Sure is! Many decaying buildings around the island
Thank you for sharing your video! It is sad knowing that the Pacific Star has been closed down & not in service anymore... I used to sit in the lobby & just enjoy watching the plenty of tourists running in and out
Wow that sounds like an interesting hobby haha. But yeah, people watching can be fun here. Thanks for watching!
I still remember roaming the floors & waiting for my father to get out at 5:00 pm. In the early 1990s Pacific Star Hotel was one of the best hotels...waioo uwa pwal mutii ei neni ah... So many memories of my late parents & my cousins!
Well I am glad I could give you a little glimpse of what it looks like today. Hopefully improvements come and you can revisit one day to relive some of those memories
Cendol is originally from Indonesia🇮🇩
Is it?
Sherwood was long abandoned before 2021. Back in its glory days it was a popular hotel for Chinese and Taiwanese tourist. After the 2002 typhoon it was fixed up and turned into a massive spa. It was abandoned after 2015. The Pacific Star use to belong to the island nation of Nauru. Back in the 80's when they use to be rich. I use to work there back in 2009 when they were borrowing the Marriot name. They had a good Dim sum restaurant and big ball rooms. The interior was kind of 90's vibe.
Thats super interesting! The 90's vibe in a hotel kinda sounds cool, as long as it was clean. Interesting because Nauru doesn't even fly here, at least anymore (I think they did in the past)
I went to Sheerwood Hotel for one of my birthdays before it shut down
And how was it back then?
@@MattReardonVlogs it was awesome! Full buffet with great food and the chocolate cake I had was DIVINE! oh I miss that place.
Oh man i'd be in it for the choco cake too. What a time huh
Mr.Matt always enjoying your postings & more keep it coming please stay & be safe.👋🙌🙏👍
Thanks for following along! More to come soon hopefully :)
thank you friend for sharing video. you should do a piece on tumon bay capital hotel. its not abandoned but it had same vive when i stayed there for 2 nights in 2023. great location on hillside with best sunset view of tumon bay, and staff super friendly but man, everything else was just a mess. dated and old everywhere; lingering typhoon damage; moldy rooms with beds and furniture from 80s, ants on your food in seconds; tv but no connection; shower drain problems n hot water issues; pool dirty; but what got me was lobby, elevator area and hallways not well lit at night from dis-repair so it gave the hotel a spooky-ghostly feel to it, esp with lots of empty rooms and not many guests. that was one heck of an experience. ive been spooked in some hotels in philippines but never thought Guam, USA 😅
I actually haven't heard of that one but I might know where it is. Will have to check it out! Hahaha what an interesting stay you had there. Do you recall how the pricing was back then per night? Probably not worth the money. And what you described gives me Southeast Asia Hotel vibes (of course there are better ones too but sometimes the photos are 10 years apart from current time)
located in main area of downtown tumon on hill behind Duty Free Galleria and Guam Plaza Resort n Spa. And yup, got drawn in by website photos. price was $283 for 3 nites, mybe stil same. Similar to the properties you showed, i think hotel was already old with no regular upkeep then got battered by typhoon with no funds for repair. No shades at owners, i would have been kinda ok staying there if only place was bustling with more guests and place was well lit at night 👻🥶. gud thing i had rental car in case i had too flee😅 Go up there at night sometimes n jek it out. i tell u that place makes the best halloween haunted house. that lone lady that worked there graveyard shift was a brave one😅 alright, enuf said.
Ah ok I know the location now. So fascinating though. I will def have to put it on my list of places to check out. Sounds thrilling haha. Thanks
I rented a room at Verona awhile back, the air conditioning was bad and the room had mold, very dangerous
So sad to hear. Mold is a big issue here!
Not surprised. Guam is one of the most uncomfortable places on earth so hot and humid with no wind.
In terms of weather, that is somewhat true for many. Many locals would even say the environment is unbearable during the day
Pacific star closed down from covid. They housed gov guam employees during pandemic and they ended up having a gangb*ang with some military guards 🤣🤣
Dude like what?! HAHAHA now we know what the government is up to haha
Need more Chinese investors to buy them up
But do we? Hahaha hey, whatever it takes to beautify them and get them back running again
@@MattReardonVlogs it was somewhat satire. But then again they’re the only ones willing to invest on Guam
Yeah true
the owners of these properties should be fined everyday they aren't remodeling or removing these structures.
Very true...maybe they are doing some work from the inside? Probably while wearing turtle costumes haha
Sad to see that pacific star is not operational. I used to work there
Oh foreal? How was it back then? Looks like it would be fun to work at
I stayed at the Sherwood sometime around 1998. We were sent by an employer in Hawaii. Some of those hotels were victims of the collapse of the Asian 'tiger' economies in 1997. They were also battered by some strong typhoons, with no funding for repairs.. The hotel was also damaged by strong winds and the windows leaked every time it rained at night. Very few occupied rooms . Just a skeleton staff working and the pools were filled with algae. At the time , there were some restaurant chains on the first floor still operating (Tony Roma's was one). I cannot believe the building is still there. Brings back memories, enjoyed it.
Wow that is interesting to hear! I figured the typhoons really did a hit on it. Seems like the issues go farther back than I imagined. Hey! Tony Romas is pretty good and still around :)
As part of being a contractor, one of my clients purchases hotels and I make them new again. I might encourage him to buy a hotel in Guam so that i can have some work there.
Hey not a bad idea haha....there are many here...like crown plaza, hyatt, dusit thani, hilton, niko, tsubaki, etc..

Nice sharing . Have a great day.
Thanks for watching :)
If you don't know what BGC is, the original name of the place is William McKinley the 25th president of the United States during the U.S. occupation. I'm sure you will like my car if I bring it there. I'm also sure no one has it there. Rent a scooter, walking in heat is tiring.
Hahaha true. What car do you have?

Is Guam diverse? Is it ideal for black people to live there without experiencing racism?
I'd say pretty diverse. Many different ethnicities living here
Exactly! Well said
I was there in1990-1991 you should have seen it then!! Love it there but way to costly to live there.
It really is. How was it back in the early 90s?
Sounds like a nice place to visit but not to live.
Both are possibilities depending on your income and what not. Can live by the beach and be totally blinded to everything else
