My first souls-like was Lies of P. I just got really good at that. Decided to play this while waiting on the DLC and I don't understand when to parry at all in this game. I get lucky and hit it sometimes but I don't get the timing at all. And this don't help, I don't even understand what I'm looking at.

I've finished every souls game minus DS2 and Sekiro for the LIFE OF ME has me struggling to get the parrying system down pat cuz in souls games I'm totally a dodge and get behind the enemy type of player, really wish this prompt would be in the GAME just to help me get better, still I will get it down eventually but this helps immensely so thank you!!!..

I need more games that have a focus on parrying. I love all the other Fromsoft games but Sekiro just scratched an itch I didn’t know I had.

I'm sorry but that is not a parry, it's just a perfect block. At least by video game standards it is. I mean what exactly is the point of a parry if you can't counter afterwards but you just have to keep on parrying until the enemy is done with their attack pattern? I think the Withcer 3 does parrying a lot more justice, where if you just block, then the enemy can continue attacking you as you keep blocking, whereas if you parry, that's going to leave the enemy open for an attack. And I understand that "parrying" in Sekiro means that your block isn't going to break but then why not just call it a perfect block then? And the problem that I have with this mechanic is that it is so unrewarding. What do I get if I make a perfect block? Oh my reward is that I get to block even more! Wow Amazing! Whereas in the Witcher 3, making a parry rewards you with a chance to actaully start attacking the enemy whereas blocking is simply a safe way to not mess up a parry and get punished for it.
Hi, idk if you'll see this comment, but parrying in Sekiro is extremely rewarding. I'm not gonna argue with you too much over whether this is a true parry or not. The term parry comes from fencing, and it roughly means to ward off a weapon or blow with your own weapon. Back to Sekiro. Every enemy has essentially two "hp bars". One is a regular health meter that decreases as you do damage to them. The other, arguably more important one, is a stance/posture meter that decreases as you both do damage and parry the enemy. This stance meter decreases much faster than the health one does in most fights, (though it can regenerate so keeping up your pressure is key). What I love about this system is that even while you are on the defense, that is parrying while the enemy attacks, you can still make progress towards your goal, slaying the boss. Because when that posture meter depletes... ded. I hope this helps, i simplified a bit cuz i could go on forever but yeah! It is a different parry system than most games but it feels extremely rewarding to play!
I think Sekiro doesn't even call it a parry, but a deflect. I'm guilty of calling it a parry, but don't think i'm gonna stop honestly.
@@Envivii Honestly that's a good point. I forgot that "parrying" in Sekiro also helps in breaking the enemy's stance not just to prevent your own stance from breaking.
in reality a parry or a block is the same thing.
@@etendudeaufraiche146 If I'm not wrong, they might be similar but their intention is different. While a block is used to simply stop an attack from hitting you, a parry is used to create an opening for a counter attack.

it makes complete sense for parry windows to be this forgiving when you remember you have to parry atleast 5 times a second

That parry window definitely doesn’t feel that big when your heart is going the speed of sound while your at nearly zero hp fighting for your life against a boss😭
Well, that's a lie. There's a great video "The Truth About Sekiro Parry Frames" which shows the actual number of parry frames using DSAnimStudio software. Parry window is 12 frames. Block is frames 13 to 36. Thx for spreading misinformation. It clearly feels while playing parry isn't half a damn second. I don't know how anyone who played it can believe that nonsense.
Just picked this game up and having trouble learning how to parry properly. This video really helped, I think I’ve been parrying too early rather than late.
