This video was very cathartic for me as somebody who never could enjoy the new horizons soundtrack. New Leaf was my first game, and I played it obsessively throughout my childhood, so I’m definitely biased towards it, but to me there’s not a single track in NL that doesn’t perfectly encapsulate the hour while still sounding amazing. NH, on the other hand, completely missed the mark IMO. It’s just missing the quirky factor that the previous games had in their soundtracks.

Am I the only one who likes the New Horizons soundtrack, lmao? Seriously though, I'm really fond of most of the hourly music in Animal Crossing. If I had to rank the soundtracks I'd probably order them in this way: 1. New Leaf 2. GameCube 3. New Horizons 4. Wild World/City Folk Most of my memories I have are with New Leaf and New Horizons since I was born in the 2000's but I did go back to Wild World at one point. I didn't get to play much because my DS was all janky so it'd time travel for me and it was a but frustrating but whenever I did long on it'd always be at or around 6pm so even though I don't like the hourly music from those games much it's one of my favorite tracks in the whole franchise. I'd hum along to it and everything. Unpopular opinion: I actually really like the New Horizons 3am and 2pm tracks. I find their goofiness endearing rather than annoying or grating. I also like a lot of the evening tracks, but that's when I'd play the game most often during the Summer of 2020 so I suppose they're just nostalgic for me. My favorite track from that game is 12pm by far, though, I'd always bop a little in my seat as I played and I'd be sad when the hour would end. I was in elementary school when I'd play New Leaf and the 5am and 10pm tracks would kind of scare me low-key. I was a bit weird in that I'd play by doing all my chores for one day and then traveling to the next and then I'd just do that for hours. I'd always pick 11am to "wake-up" at because everything was open so that was the track I'd hear the most. 5-7pm are also super nostalgic because that's when I'd pick to "wake-up" on fishing tourney/bug-off days so there wasn't a chance for anyone to surpass my score later in the day. Yes, I was a big fat cheater, lmao. I unfortunately haven't played Population Growing, so I don't have any memories with those songs. But there's something about them that's just so... quintessential Animal Crossing. Animal Crossing is so special to me. It was a GIANT part of my childhood, I was literally obsessed with it. Thanks for making this video! :)

if there is one song in all of animal crossing that makes me tear up it's definitly new leaf 11PM song. I used to play with one guy I met in the game for 2 years and one day he died, I was devastated and the only thing I thought to do was a monument for him in my town. The monument was built with 11PM music in the background and everytime I hear this music it makes me remember my old friend again. This song has a special place in my heart as well as all the other new leaf songs and now it's been years of me playing in the same town and the monument is still here, and it will forever.

7pm NH (no that's not a typo) will always be my #1. I used to listen to it when I went out on bike rides in the evening when it's getting dark and it fits perfectly.

The one that hits me like a ton of bricks the most is 6:00 AM from Wild World / City Folk. I used to take my Nintendo DS with me to school in 2005-2006 and this music track would be playing while I was on the school bus in the morning. I also really love 8AM from New Leaf, because it was the first hourly track I heard from the game, back when it was only out in Japan. I was in my senior year of high school and STILL hyped as hell for New Leaf. 8AM from the Gamecube version is kinda similar to this track, at least in spirit, but I don't have a connection to it. Most fitting track? Definitely 12PM from Population Growing. It SOUNDS like 12PM in a way no other track directly sounds like their respective hours. I think overall, New Leaf has the strongest OST, with the most peak tracks. New Horizons has the weakest. Some good songs, but most of them are forgettable and blend together.

Really don’t get the hate on new horizons to be honest. Yes a lot of the songs have a similar vibe but they’re not THAT similar. They fit the island theme of the game imo but obviously it’s my opinion and a lot of players have bias and nostalgia to the older games (very much so)

New Leaf had 14 tracks which did not feature the game's main theme motif in them (Specifically AM: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 10, 11... and PM: 12, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11), and even of the tracks that DO have the motif, many of them are rather subtle (12AM, 2PM, and I guess 1PM). I think it's part of the reason why its sountrack is so memorable. New Horizons' hourly soundtrack, by contrast, has the main theme in every single track I believe, and if I recall correctly, it's always a substantial part of the song.

This is a good list but 9am gamecube was way too low! It was my favorite, waking up on a Saturday morning and hearing that song greet me, good memories.

I honestly feel I would've enjoyed New Horizons more if the music was better... I started with City Folk when I was about 5-6 years old, I wasn't really old enough to understand how the game worked until the 3DS came out and I got New Leaf, I might be biased but New Leaf was/still is my favourite gen, somewhat because of the music but also because of the features that weren't really in the other games. 7pm in New Leaf hit different as a kid, after 11pm it's my favourite soundtrack 😭

While a lot of new horizons soundtracks are also low on my list, I’d say it’s because they’re not as memorable, but that’s a good thing. If you hear the same song every day, you want it to be more background music than memorable

just began to replay new horizons and decided to start fresh and honestly, ive developed much more appreciation for the hourly music than i did when the game was still young. while its definitely the weakest in the series imo, it really just gives me the time to just chill and go fishing or smth! anywho, i love recounting my memories of all the new leaf tracks, they all have such a special connection to me and i can associate every single one with a specific memory, what legendary pieces of music

All of the slowness of these tracks seem to make me want to go to bed earlier in the night (9:34 pm right now as I'm writing).

I haven't played and have not been too big into ACNH as I was with ACNL so most of ACNH songs I just know from JSchlatt's Tiktok videos. I probably should have guess they were related to Animal Crossing.

Before New Horizons came out, I was sooo excited to get a new Animal Crossing soundtrack, these games were known for their fantastic soundtracks and I had high expectations. And dear God did NH's soundtrack suck. It's so irritating! It's definitely a big reason why I avoid that game more than the others. Such a shame...
