Time to Upgrade Wheels - Project Frankenstein - 1988 Jeep Comanche
I've talked for a while about this issue, so now it's time to fix it. This is mostly a guess on my part regarding the underlying problem, but it did make it better. Little by little, it will be better every time.

This is a video that's been 2 seasons in the making. It took a while to cover all of the work and the video isn't really showing a ton of crazy work, but work it it. This video covers the floor and rocker repairs, and everything that had to happen in between for what I've decided to call Basilisk. With this out of the way, next is seat cleaning, mount creation, and floor completion. Then, it's ...

    Watching you struggle to remove the rubber bushings. The easy way to remove them is to use a propane torch to heat up the center which will be easy to push out, then continue to heat the rubber and then just pry the rubber out leaving a clean mount for poly bushing.😊

    • @monstermodcustoms
      @monstermodcustoms Год назад

      Yeah, I just don't trust what they did here, and its so inconsistent that I think it's just easier to get better ones. Thanks for all the info. I generally use the dremel for the fine work at the end, but I never made it that far.

    • @jonathoncouchey7151
      @jonathoncouchey7151 Год назад

      @@monstermodcustoms let's just say. You get some light valves. A good very good peeforomance valve job. And get rid of casting flash. You will be in a very good spot. Moat of your flow is determined based off the area between 1 inch before and after the valve. If anything when you port a head. Do the valve job after.

  • @jonathoncouchey7151
    @jonathoncouchey7151 Год назад

    I would save those "modified heads" alot of stock valve jobs are mich smaller than the valves. And the port work looks okay. They would need a valve job. but obviously you wouldn't do anything with them anytime soon. Machine shop valve jobs will generally thin up and move the valve jobs out creating better low lift flows.

  • @jonathoncouchey7151
    @jonathoncouchey7151 Год назад

    One thing I usually do is a take a sandpaper roll from one of those Drexel kits and I polish all the transition cuts except the valve seat. you want fuel to shear off the the valve and valve seat. that way the bowl creates more of a venturi shape.

  • @jonathoncouchey7151
    @jonathoncouchey7151 Год назад

    You could definatley cut down those valve guides in the ports. I find for fine work a Dremel works well. For the larger die grinder I used 6binchblong bits to reach in and cut the valve guide bosses down.

  • @jonathoncouchey7151
    @jonathoncouchey7151 Год назад

    Yes, get rid of the casting flash. Port reshaping really only helps on very old designs. And also for very high lifts. Get a good high performance valve job. That will make up for almost all what you could do porting. If you feel adventerous on a new set of heads. Clean up the valve guide casting boss. Transition the roof of the bowl to the top of the port. Also get a back cut on your intake valves. In most cases that is worth 10 cfm.

      The next big project on it is probably going to be coilovers. And with coilovers comes linking the rear, which is an idea that's been rattling around in my head for a while. Not gonna lie, there are some things I don't have the best understanding of, and link geometry and coilover math kind of fit in that. I'll have to put some real planning into it(and money). But for now I want to, at least, get it to reliably drive places, so that comes first.

      Maryland restricts land use, even if there is a trail, so going on any public land can result in a ticket/fine. And they've got nothing better to do around here than get the easy pickins. So unless you know someone with enough land that will allow it to be trailed, you're out of luck.
