Is there a gasket seal under tap against sink surface ?
Manufacturers say no to the dope and over tightening .👍
Just no, and work out how to use a wrench too
Worst advice
@@Sinistxr_gaming go on, why?
This was painful to watch.. Go to the hardware store and get yourself some Pex cutters.. Saves this world of hurt.
What is the tool called?
Wera joker 👍🏼
Crikey I didn't realise the leg was so serious. I thought that it would be 6 weeks until you were out of the cast! Pleased to hear that it's on the mend
It’s a very long story, and I’ll go into it all one day. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Im a DIYer, do I need to heat/solder all the joints at one time, Or can I do one at a time, for example joining a 'T' Yorkshire fitting (3, joint's closely together)?
Hi, I was always taught to heat them up one at a time, starting at the bottom joint as the heat rises and you’ll use less gas that way. Hope that helps 👍🏼
Nice video mate, I need to do my outside tap as that leaks when it’s on.
Hi, next time I fit a outside tap I’ll try and do a video 👍🏼
Sweet Finn!
👍
I also wanted to ask, can you do a video or dispense some advice about air locks in systems? I have a gravity fed system that I’ve been adapting and I seem to be plagued with air locks which I’m finding quite confusing. I thought about converting to an unvented system and although our water pressure meets the minimum needed (2 bar), our flow rate is only around 16l/m (20 is recommended as far as I understand). I suspect our immersion heater is generating the air in the tank which is getting sucked along some long pipes via a shower pump, where it gets stuck and accumulates. I fitted a s flange to the tank yesterday, which acts a bit like a straw, drawing the water from a lower part of the tank, which I hope will improve things. Any advice welcome!
Hi James, I appreciate you’re getting frustrated with it. But I can’t really give you any advice without seeing the system. Hope you understand 👍🏼
@@copperflowplumbing Yes that's understood! It's a difficult thing problem to convey over text
I was asked to look at a leaking flexi connection for a friends sink… whoever had fitted it had tightened it so tightly to the service valve that they had cut a perfect disk out of the seal! I showed my friend but she didn’t seem interested or understand why I was excited to have unpicked the issue, oh well at least I can tell people on the internet!
I’ve had similar responses when I’ve tried to pass on a crumb of info, but as the saying goes “you can lead a horse to water but you can make it drink” or my favourite “and some fell on stoney ground”.
We’ll all meet up here for a group virtual pat on the back. 😂😂
It's an Olive NOT a ferrule, we are not Americans
I’m with you, but the amount of flack I’ve had over it 🙈
Very very good video for beginners Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
👍
Great channel mate. Can learn alot from you. Thanks
Awesome, thank you!
basin mate seal every time....never fails
Yeah I’ve recently seen them, will give them a go at some point!
Another informative video. Good job!
We call what you call a spanner a crescent wrench, an adjustable wrench or a thumb wrench in the U. S. I like the term spanner, though.
Watching from Alabama in the US. As always, very informative.
Remember to keep your putty in the fridge, especially in August as we know will happen!!! 😂 ☀️☀️☀️
Greetings from Canada, I enjoy watching your you daily videos, of plumbing with a broken leg....looking forward to the next :) I would love to have you sign my name on your cast :)))))
Hello Canada! This is so crazy that people all over the world are watching!! Is it all relevant from what I’m saying to Canadian plumbing- if that makes sense? Maybe we could sort out some kind of auction for spaces on the cast 🤣🤣🤣

Good job, Paul!
Thank you Claude 👍🏼
Crikey sorry to hear about the leg! Hope that you're on the mend. I plumbed a little and low basin in for the first time last week for my toddlers. I hung the basin in about 20 minutes, so far so good. Adjusted the water supply and connected up the taps in another hour.. excellent. And then it came to connecting the trap and waste pipes, what a nightmare! I learnt that there's different waste diameters, various external pipe diameters depending on if it's push fit, compression fit or solvent. My trouble was that I was trying to connect it to some 40 year old push fit plastic drain pipes with an external diameter of 36mm. I managed it in the end with compression fittings. I also ended up using a load of jointing compound on the connection between the waste and the trap to stop it from leaking. Overall that step must have taken four hours and a number of trips to screwfix! I think it's probably the hardest bit of plumbing I've ever done because as far as I can tell there's a lot of choice of components that are not compatible with each other and you must maintain a fall. Then again I'm probably just doing it wrong!
Hi James, that’s plumbing in a nutshell right there, what should take X hours on paper in reality….😂😂 Glad you got there I the end 👍🏼
👍
Can never see too many of these type of vids!
Nice soldering video but I would use a dry rag rather than a damp rag. The wet rag will cool the pipe and solder too quickly leaving lumps and waves on the pipe. Your video is educational and well explained.
Thanks for the tip 👍🏼
3:38 "making sure you don't nick the pipe" you mean like you did 😂
Yeah I know! Too busy filming to pay attention to what’s going on 🙈👍🏼
You didn't admit to catching the pipe with the hacksaw which was clearly visible when the olive came off.
Yeah I know, too busy filming 🙈👍🏼
If you unloosen something does that mean you tighten it.
No it means it comes off twice as fast 😉
Why is the music always ten times louder than the speaking????
No idea sorry 🤷🏼
Ok, I have never heard of calling a ferrule an olive. Then again, I get paid in dollars not pounds.
Is there a way to remove (or reduce) that slime from the pipe that goes into the wall? Preferably without removing the trap? Just thinking more preventative maintenance. .
No idea sorry 👍🏼
when i worked as a plumber we just used a regular pipe wrench to "chew" in different locations around the olive. This increased its diameter and it was then easy to pull the olive off moving the pipe wrench back and forth.
Can an olive be re-used?
If you can get it back I’ve the end of a pipe, possibly if it’s still in good shape. But they are so cheap, you probably wouldn’t bother 👍🏼
You’ll have to ask the person who put the basin in originally 🤷🏼♂️
why a bath trap on a basin?
Previous plumber 👍🏼
I recently used a variation of the hacksaw trick on a 1/4" ferrule, instead of a hacksaw I used a Dremmel cutoff wheel to split the little bugger.
Did it work well?
@@copperflowplumbing Yes, did the job.
Too bad you nicked that pipe with your hacksaw. Use a couple of wraps of teflon tape over the "olive" for lubricant instead of that pipe dope.
I’ve had a few comments saying I nicked it, so I’ve just revisited the video……yes I did 🙈. I was too busy trying to film and talk rather than completely focussing on what I was doing!
Unloosen. How about loosen. Sorry pet peeve.
Yeah already had that one pointed out 🙈. I will try and improve my grammar in the future videos. It’s a huge learning curve stepping way out of my comfort zone
The main purpose of flux when soldering metals is to prevent oxidation. Without this the solder wouldn't stick to the copper and flow into the joint under capillary action.
Every day is a school day, thanks Graham! This is what I want the channel to be, somewhere where people share knowledge and learn 👍🏼
Mostly I prefer to use end feed because they are cheaper and look neater. However in certain situations where access is limited I will use a Yorkshire fitting and in my experience they are very reliable.
Completely agree with you 👍🏼
👍
thanks for sharing! very interesting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
It's all wonky.
🤦🏼♂️
Some people are calling it a ferrule but in Britain we call them olives or rings, a ferrule is a round piece of metal or brass put onto the end of a chisel etc to stop the handle from splitting when struck with a hammer. This is to explain to some of the reviews what we call them in the uk.
That olive couldn't have been done good enough if all it took was an adjustable spanner to knock it off, frightening what could happen if it was under a lot of pressure, why bother removing an olive when its easier cutting the pipe and adding a piece on.
Wow ! Great !
