I understand your concern about the ethicality of the Udawalawe elephant orphanage but I highly disagrees with your view. The orphanage is a transit home for wild elephants, who would have otherwise found it difficult to survive in the wild. They care for the elephants and then release them into the wild. The elephants are never chained and are free to roam around and human contact is kept to a minimum. I would say that it is more of a wildlife conservation site than a tourist trap.
