Missa brevis in G major, K.49/47d (Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus) with original manuscript
Mozart's Mass in G major, K. 49/47d), is his first full mass. It is a missa brevis scored for SATB soloists and choir, violin I and II, viola, and basso continuo.
Mozart wrote the Mass in G major at the age of 12. It was however neither his first setting of a part of the mass ordinary - two years earlier he had already composed a Kyrie (K. 33) -, nor was it his largest composition with a religious theme up to date: his sacred musical play Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots had been premiered in the previous year.
Composed in Vienna in the autumn of 1768,[1] this mass is Mozart's only missa brevis to feature a viola part. It is not clear what occasion it was composed for, and it has been co...

Composed in 1843 and first performed at the Salle Herz, Paris on 3 February 1844. A stand-alone overture intended for concert performance, made up of material and themes from Berlioz's opera Benvenuto Cellini, including some music from the opera's carnival scene - hence the overture's title. It is scored for...

Vorodin, thank you for the brilliant posting! Who did the wonderful drawing? It is modern I am certain but quite lovely.

This magnificent piece and orchestral style ("fairy scherzo"), with its light scoring, rapid timbral alternations, and virtuosic writing in general, may have been a strong influence on Tchaikovsky's orchestral writing. I don't know if Berlioz pioneered this type of scherzo (perhaps it was C.M. von Weber or Mendelssohn).
Must be Montreal

Hanneke ,16 juni 2011.
This is a really nice recording. Does anyone know what group is recorded playing here?
For some inexplicable reason this wonderful Berlioz Overture is rarely played. Too bad concert promoters can't be a bit more adventurous. As an example, at this year's (2014) BBC London Proms season "Le Corsaire" is featured twice but no other Berlioz overture is performed. What nonsense is this!
thank you very much for posting this. who are the performers?
i would be interested to know what you consider to be wonderful music. The world is waiting with baited breath...
I've never heard a perfect performance of this piece. It's really difficult.
awww :nyan: I'm so jealous, why has he never come to latin america :( if he survived the bible belt he can survive latin america, perhaps Argentina, they're sort of down to earth there :S I wouldn't suggest my country.......... now, that would be dangerous!!! hahahaha
@Cellogamer The first time I played this, I found it so beautiful that tears fell from my eyes. then i realised I wasn't alone :)
The first time I played this I was like "It sounds like Christmas!" Then it got hard. And I was like "Okay, it doesn't sound like Christmas anymore."
@Thespex99 Wow ridiculous comment
I agree with "elberliozano", I love that section 2:51-5:05 too!
Wow terrible music
¡Esa pandereta está en llamas! ¡Grande Berlioz! ^^ That tambourine is in fire! Great Berlioz! ^^
The nearly constant shifting is what makes this piece fun for string players, at least violas.
Ohh, I don't understand everything he says, my english is still very bad.
fine dont believe me. But i know he is because my grandmother has told me many times that her mother's uncle was berlioz
that masterpiece from Berlioz is a tough one to play, whatever your instrument is....
Berlioz got a lot of inspiration for this workwhen he was 27 yrs. old,-he won the coveted Prix de Rome; a composerr's scholraship. It gives the recipient four years, all expenses paid, in Rome!-Nice huh?
Excellent idea to publish this, thanks ! This orchestra sounds very virtuosic, the interpretation is very light, what is this great period music orchestra ? Champs Elysées ?
i adore Richard Dawkins.
This is certainly pleasing to the ear! Keep it up with the posting!
This overture is simply pleasing to the ear! Keep up with the posting!
Argh! Me hubiera encantado asistir. Desgraciadamente estaba fuera de España el 31 :(
Gracias por subirlo!
i am related to Berlioz
Awesome.
Thanks for posting this. It's a wonderfully grumpy, stormy and slightly unhinged piece - much like King Lear. I know people cite other composers as being more worthy, but Berlioz is the one I always come back to....the twists and turns of his melodies - the wonderful sounds he makes, especially on the strings - the dancing rhythms, the sudden outbursts and the outrageous endings. He always makes me smile.
