I got into fish keeping thanks to a couple of middle school students where I work gifting me a betta in a one gallon acrylic box back in Sept 2019. It has just ballooned from there. This channel is really a video diary of my journey with this obsession.

It's been a while since I did one of these. These are my home tanks. Most of them have US native fish. One of these has mostly Mexican natives. The other tank has a mix of Asian, African, Australian and South American fish.

They are longear sunfish, native to the US. I got mine from www.jonahsaquarium.com/.

What do you feed your long ears?
In the video they were eating chopped tilapia and chopped shrimp. They will eat pellets too. I used to feed them Vibrabites and flake when they were smaller.

We had a strong thunderstorm overnight, and the puddle looks like a normal puddle now. The blue is completely gone.

You definitely need to contact somebody. Looks like fabric softener. I'm amazed anything is alive in there, but whatever was put in that water definitely isn't good for the ground water!

It's funny that us American fish keepers, keep almost no native fish. Your tanks are BEAUTIFUL!
Same goes for south american fishkeepers, they go for asian fish most of the time lol

Jonah's Aquarium except for the blackbanded sunfish. I got them from an LFS.

How can you tell? Serious question
The "ears" on all of them are large and really easy to spot. The "ears" on the females are way smaller, at about 5 times smaller they appear more like a dot.

I have 4 of them in my community tank with a leopard catfish /gold nugget pleco /3rainbow cichlids/a bichir fish and neon tetras and surprisingly they don’t eat the tetras

How do you siphon it
I use a Python for my 4 feet or longer tanks. I do have to leave the water on for the 60 breeder though.
