391: Until next time, we’ll see you out there (Outdoor Diary)
Did you know I’m a journalist? I mean, you probably do because I mention it in the intro of many episodes of Humans Outside. But you probably didn’t know I’m launching a local nonprofit newspaper.
It’s an all-consuming project, and going outside has been key to helping me get it off the ground.
Going outside daily has also been key to helping me understand how to manage my time, how to prioritize what’s important to me, how to make all of it happen in one day.
But it’s also taught me that the world is full of natural beginnings and endings as a part of the seasons.
Listen now.

Many people who choose to tackle hard stuff outside are pushed to do so to honor some kind of “why.” For some of us, that “why” is health or to push our own personal boundaries. There’s something special about the way spring sounds in Alaska. Maybe it’s how dramatic the experience is as compared to the sounds of winter. Maybe it’s that they’re happy sounds that I can hear through my windows. Maybe it’s that the weather is so much nicer than it had been, that I’m outside more to hear sounds at all. Whatever the reason, I love the outdoor symphony. Here’s what I’ve been ...

I do it to myself and over and over again. That feeling of overwhelm sneaks right in, and it’s entirely because of my own poor choices. (You would think I’d learn my lesson, but I have not.) So when the going gets crowed, what do I do? I think you’re probably going to guess. But the wild thing is just how much adding more of it to my schedule helps. Listen now. Thank you for your perspective. I would however disagree with the idea that darkness is "bad" or it's only purpose is to exalt light. We need the darkness as many scientists and theologians know. It is vital to humans, animals, plants, .It's necessary for our sleep, our biology, physical and mental health, the health of our ecosystems, our creativity and our spirits. More on this from Paul Bogard in his book, "The End of Night" and his TEDx talk on the same, focuses on why we need darkness. I also found this: ruclips.net/video/QSr0qjT_rXc/видео.html for another perspective on this topic. Take good care, stay well and Happy Holidays!

Hi! Upon consideration -- I entirely agree with you. I will absolutely watch that and think about it. From the perspective of THIS moment, starved of light and feeling the hard parts of the darkness so deeply, I think it's hard to step back and immediately contemplate its strong points. Thanks for the push back and perspective -- it's valued. Happy solstice and happy holidays!

I just started reading 52 ways to walk. Omg I'm really amazed at the information in this book. I had no idea how important walking is. I've been lying on the couch for months. I went out today. Just a short walk to get started.

Your garden is beautiful . It’s amazing what can be done in a small urban space. I am on my 3rd season of gardening in my urban back yard. I never thought I could pull it off but RUclips gardeners like you have taught me so much. I just love watching my garden grow and change each day and I also make garden videos! Now I can watch your garden grow in your videos too. I hope we can learn more from each other as we grow!

Jay -- the oak wasn't acutally oak. It was a painted oak pattern. And we haven't missed the toilet once!

Funny, I was just writing about this earlier today. Explaining that these are motor courts. Lodging before there was hotels or motels. And this place has been restored. Never stayed in one but have been able to look in a few. Real throw backs to a earlier time

So was this just an anomaly of a downpour where any tent would have leaked through the floor or do you find a flaw in the tent?
