A 3 DAY Adventure in Buena Vista, Colorado.
Hiking a 14’er in Colorado was a life goal that my daughter set when she was just a little girl. So now the time has come, she has graduated HIgh School, and we head west to Buena Vista, Colorado to summit Mt. Princeton with a dear group of friends. And, of course, I added in a bit of high mountain fly fishing and whitewater rafting to the list of goals.

Hiked into the 2nd meadow about 30 years ago to fish for cutthroats. The only problem was a lone bull bison that wouldn't leave the trail and would move to cut me off whenever I tried to go around him. Finally he got bored playing that game and wandered off. Awesome green drake hatch while I fished there and the cutthroats were attacking them. I'm planning to get beck in there again next year if my legs can take it.

    • @the_anglers_path

Two ways down. 1. Get to the top of the incline from the road (about 1 mile). Where you can just see the river. Then drop straight down. 2. Stay along the Specimsn Rifge Horse trail, about 2miles) then cut down the hill at when you get yo the trees. Old, big burnt tree is you market.

Man, I love this place. Fished the rivers and lakes near roads my first trip. Was good, but went 15 miles in the backcountry on my on my second trip and the fishing was life changing.. just completely next level. The size of Trout in the upper Snake River near Heart lake and The Yellowstone River above Yellowstone Lake (Thorofare area) was unbelievable. Takes determination to get there but so worth it. Can't wait til next time.

@@the_anglers_path We hit the upper Green River north of Pinedale up by Green River Lakes last year...2nd week July. Hot as balls, relentless sun but really windy. It was crazy. It would get into low 90s during the day and in the morning we'd wake up to heavy frost and frozen waders. We learned that the really nice looking slower water with eddys and cuts, holes, etc...wasn't where the fish were despite water temps being great. The local guides told us to stay away from those areas and fish the fast water. They were right and we did well. We went up to Union Pass and fished some remote streams up there. That was really nice and we got into some Cuttys as we came down closer to Dubois. The scenery is unmatched.
