Neelix and Kes were both extremely useful additions to the crew. Kes she could read minds and was able to assist the doctor in sickbay. Neelix was able to help keep the crew's morale up and the pantry stocked with food that was safe to eat. During the journey,they have made a lot of discoveries to keep the ship in one piece. The doctor's mobile emitter which allows him to go anywhere on the ship he is required, the Delta Flyer etc. They have made first contact with many species, all of this information will be used as vital teaching material for future Starfleet cadets.

One thing that has ALWAYS confused me about this scene - Seska transports to a vessel a mere 14km away. In space, thats a TIIIINY distance. In fact, its very likely close to weapons range with each other if not already in that range. Why in the shit did tom or anyone else on the bridge not call for red alert, and tell the captain that a kazon vessel was quite literally right next to them?

"Even with our superior defence capabilities we cannot prevail against three Kazon warships....." If we're talking the big ones then yeah probably a threat so just blow the one with Seska on up and then get out of there.

Seska in two words. Brilliantly Crafty... Every plan went according to plan. Only Tuvok wasn't far behind her schemes and as usual his suspicions were warranted

I remember this episode going out on BBC Two for the first time and this entire scene was hit by sound problems so I didn't hear a word of it until years later.

Unfortunately Seska was right. Captain Janeway realized later she had made a mistake and started sharing technology with the people of the Delta quadrant in exchange for survival and faster ways home. 💁🏽‍♂️

With the Borg, "DS9" (which did reference them afterwards, even though they didn't show but once in the pilot) and "Voyager" couldn't do it essentially because they were not really petty creatures. Even in "First Contact," and "DS9" their mechanical nature somewhat took over them. But yes the Borg went through the they-deny-their-crimes bit too because they were humanized to the point of no return by the time "Voyager" and UPN in general was in their prime apex of glory - 1998.

I never liked Seska but I loved Martha Hackett as T'Rul on DS9. I was bummed they didn't bring T'Rul back after Seska was killed off.

I like to think Janeway took what Seska said to heart and decided to change her mind about trading technology. That or the network decided the sagging ratings meant a change up in the writing staff.

Seska does have a point, Janeway did get them stranded in the Delta quadrant.

It took a long time for Janeway to come around to "building a base of power in the quadrant" but when she did, she didn't mess around.

A species so insignificant, even the Borg don't want to assimilate them? A species who is, in essence, the Delta Quadrant's version of a high school bully who wants respect, but has no idea how to go about getting it? These are the 'strong alliances and powerful friends' you're suggesting? You... you do realize that they're the ones who are begging us for scraps, right? If we're gonna ally ourselves with anyone, shouldn't we pick...oh, I don't know, *literally any other species in the Delta Quadrant* . Well, except maybe the Ocampa. No offense, Kes...

Janeway was a fool -- worst captain ever

Janeway is hypocrite, in on way she did not want to give technology to Kazon, and did not want to create aliance with them, but in another hand she create aliance with Borg, and gave replicator technology to Hirogen. One of the signs how inconsistent this TV show was...

Seska’s methods might have been unorthodox but she was quite right. Voyager needed to build alliances in order to aid its objective of returning to the Alpha Quadrant. Janeway was too fixated with following Starfleet protocols and Federation values.
