First of all, the fact that UNITED STATES IMMIGRANTS call themselves EXPATS… G T F O O HERE! I’m from Chicago and I now live in CDMX. I’d be so embarrassed to call myself an EXPAT. I come from a family of MEXICAN IMMIGRANTS.. US IMMIGRANTS in Mexico need to get off their high horse… EXPAT MY ASS!!

This situation should definitely be regulated by the government. It is the greedy Mexican landlords who abused and took advantage of this situation; they are the ones who need to be regulated.

Same thing is happening here in the states and so there is now no cheaper housing for anyone even if your in a small town out in the middle of nowhere .

A lot of this anger has to do with ignorance regarding the economic context gentrification. It is a buzzword that started in US cities such as NY and SF, and Mexicans are using it in Mexico City out context. Nobody expects to be able to live in the most touristic areas of Tulum, Cancun, Cabo, or any of the touristic and expact hubs in the country. What Mexico have not experienced is having a popular touristic and expat enclave in a major city. No Italian expects to live cheapy in the best areas of Rome or Venice. Mexicans need to adapt and do what is best for the economy overall. Those high prices in Roma and Condesa benefit the overall economy of Mexico City, the services sector is booming and that creates more jobs and more opportunities. Let foreigners come and help people move to places they can afford in an orderly manner.

Bringing money to a country and therefore enhancing the local economy is amazing. Most mexicans have no problem with foreigners as long as they behave well. These "digital nomads" live in the rich neighborhoods of Mexico City. The "gentrification" doesn't affect normal people. You all just love complaining,,

You never mentioned the Istmo de tehuantepec...Mexican version of the Panama canal, but four tiemes more poweful....Probably the biggest proyect of Mexico for the nearshoring.
