Really??? Mazzilli hitting 3-0 when you're down 1-0 with 2 outs in the ninth??? So were the pre-Davey Johnson Mutts
Don't know why I'm still watching this over and over...
16:31 beginning of FDR’s speech
When was martial law enforced?
That was a very nice race.
John Walker is not cursing. Why do you say things like that?
One of the all time great American heroes. Nolan Ryan. My favorite.
Thanks Carlos Lopes! 👍👏👏👏🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹

If he had had better control and played for better teams he would have had the greatest career in history.
They should have called it the history of the plumbers union and the fire department, narrated by GayGay Reddick.

Yes hold your line when your slightly boxed in, nothing to answer for Bud being in front, if anything Decker had to break stride which is poss what caused this. Plenty of runners have sufferred this and got back up. She had plenty of time with 4 laps to go.

Жулик и допингист был этот марокканец, как и впоследствии Геруж.... Давно надо было бы пересмотреть результаты этих "чемпионов"!

Grande Carlos Lopes!
John Treacy of Ireland who won the silver medal - it was his very first marathon - he usually ran the 5km or 10km. What an extraordinary performance. I remember watching it, all those years ago.
Man talk about a finishing kick! 😂
Doug Padilla - from BYU.
Y lo poncho tirándole 😮
This was supposed to be a 'coronation' for Mary Decker, poster girl for the Regan/Thatcher era. Didn't quite work out that way! The commentators were hardly unbais, it was also nauseating listening to Mary Decker whinging and rolling around like she been speared! What did she think was going to happen? Stop the race at that point and all start again! In case anyone was interested the women who stayed on her feet and won was Maricica Puica, also before the Olympics she had run the fastest 3000m that season, the race was hardly a forgone conclusion. 🤔
I was in grade school during the '84 Olympics. Now, I'm over 50 years old. Al Michaels needs to retire.
Selfcentered Yankies😢. Little reminder again!!
the first dream team my opinion ✌✌
wonderful that the women's running audience kept booing budd out the stadiums, the ioc started to make certain policies were upheld, then followed the usa coin-toss-system approach (usa big league courts) and held decker responsible for the violation done against her, done by not only a violation-runner but from an apartied-history-place (not-long-enough abolished)
Gutsy run from Tim Hutchings - he got a bronze in Euro Chaps 2 years later beating both silver and bonze medalists
Great night. My father and mother were crying of happiness.. Unforgettable.

My goodness how times flies, 40 years ago I watched this on TV in New Jersey, USA pulling for my Portuguese guy, Carlos Lopes. Forty years later I am re-watching this great race in my home country of Portugal forever proud of this great man, Carlos Lopes!❤
I was a fan of Mamede, forever wishing he could do the business in a big championship final, sadly , not to be.
@@johnstirling6597 Mamede when he was on the up, was actually better than Carlos Lopes, and was a world record holder on the 10 k but sadly, it is true he was never able to deliver. That brought him a great depression which he still fighting to this day, poor guy. Carlos Lopes is sick nowadays, and thinks the country has forgotten him because of the likes of CR7, but that is far from the truth!! He will never be forgotten by us. Just goes to show how tough it is being an athlete. Never easy physically, but surely just as hard mentally. Thanks for ur comment!
@@Alfablue227 Fernando seemed to be almost the "perfect" athlete, he had speed, acceleration, endurance and a good sense of tactics. He ran brilliantly in heats, the 1976 Olympic 1500 heat where he blew the field apart at 1250 meters was a fantastic run, similarly the 83 world champs and 84 Olympic 10k heats where he romped home in front were both dynamic, but come the finals ,(or semi in 76) he was disappointing and faded to nowhere. It would be interesting to have a talk to him and perhaps find out where the problem lay. Carlos Was a slow and steady builder as a runner, starting in 1970 he was very ordinary, eliminated in the 10k in 72, silver in 76 , then not much ,(apart from cross country ) till 84. From all that I have read about him he was not very well liked by his fellow athletes, whereas Mamede was an all round nice guy.
@@johnstirling6597 Yes, Mamede was ailed by his trainer to be THE guy, the major athlete, but somehow he failed miserably, and that has hunted him all his life. As I said he went into a deep depression when he withdrew from competition and never recovered. Carlos is a nice guy, really, but not sure how he maintained his relationship on the tracks. He did have a lot of "perks" from his bank job (extra hours to train, sponsorship, etc) that other athletes in his team (Sporting of Lisbon) didn't. Not sure if that was part of the issue, as personality wise Carlos is a real sweet, humble man.
@@Alfablue227 I, (along with most of the rest of the world) was desperately sorry for Domingos Castro when he just failed to win a medal after being so brave in the 1988 Olympic 5000 meters final.
Pathetic unprofessional commentary.
Grande e eterno CARLOS LOPES ❤❤❤
Carlos lopes 4k made in portugal❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤jose luis je suis aussi 4k pourt ceux que ne savent pas me voiere je vais les l'amener en chine 😂😂😂😂😂
Carlos Lopes was cleary on doping! Red wine, portuguese red wine; that shouldn't have been allowed!!
All Portugal watched this Epic moment back 40 years ago! 🇵🇹
Was the game televised back in Los Angeles. This clip comes from KMSP in Minneapolis which was the Rwins TV home at the time
Salazar’s form is more like a race walker than a distance runner. He missed his calling.
살라자르는 시대를 너무 앞서갔다.
Portugal's anthem is EPIC!!!!!!!!
Forty years later, still the greatest marathon ever. The first rate field, the gruelling weather, the suspense, the high quality of the results -- all that along with three romantic favourites winning the medals, made that the very best marathon in History. Unsurpassed and unsurpassable! 👏
