    another thing i loved about her braids in this movie is that while they’re definitely their own style and have cultural significance, it also felt like a callback to the musical since elphaba had dutch braids (is that the right term?) in a lot of her scenes. like they were expanding on her character from the musical, both in terms of personality AND personal style. it was such a neat detail i think, whether intentional or not :]

    To me, micro braids are more interesting to look at in a movie cause up close, you can see all their intricate detail, where just black hair is more commun and less interesting in a movie but can be more practical on stage.

    I think the micro braids worked so well for when she tried doing Glinda's hair flipping thing, the extra weight compared to just straight hair let her make it really awkward like it's meant to be. I don't know if I really thought about her hair but I think subconsciously I was staring at it the whole time because it just looked so right.

    Even setting aside all the great BTS reasons for the microbraids, I really like them because they look like an INSANE amount of work for something as simple as self-decoration, showing from the very beginning that Elphaba cares a LOT about how she looks. It's just good character design!

  • @amelief7623
    @amelief7623 Месяц назад

    I’m obsessed with her entire look for this movie - I mean in general she is a stunningly beautiful woman, and this movie her look was just so gorgeous in a natural yet very different, artistic way, while still feeling authentic to her - the nails, the hair I could stare at her all day. Absolutely beautiful. And when Galinda tells her “you’re beautiful” you could feel that she believes it and sees it, too. I’m sooooo glad they chose Ms. Erivo to play this role. She is perfect and iconic.

  • @TheGalWithTheBlueCat

    Her hair was so, so gorgeous! And still so versatile. They were still able to recreate Elphaba‘s signature hairstyles, honoring the original broadway styles, while, in my opinion, improving them and making the hair fit her portrayal of the character. Straight hair on Cynthia’s face would’ve felt off. Like a wig. This was just perfect. Also think of all the love and all those hours of work that went into those wigs. They really went all the way and made the effort.
