NDMS Pilot Program Webinar - Texas Region
The NDMS Pilot is being carried out over five years, in three phases, at five regional NDMS network sites. As a result of San Antonio’s unique and mature medical surge capability and capacities, the five distinct tasks seek to describe and refine specific components of the civilian response to NDMS activation. This highlights projects that are being implemented by our teams in San Antonio. Joe Palfini and Eric Epley will discuss their work on the Pilot.

If you leave the tourniquet on without checking to see if the bleeding has stopped then you have made the decision to sacrifice the limb. If you haven't made that decision then you should check periodically to see if the bleeding has stopped. This is from "Wilderness First Responder" Second Edition.

Note: put the tourniquet as far up the limb as you can, not 2-3 inches above the injury.

I've always wondered about the _style_ of pressure to apply, a person could apply pressure to the middle of the wound which may spread the skin edges further apart preventing clotting... should pressure be applied to try to push the edges together or is it about reducing blood flow by clamping blood vessels closed

A lot more people need to attend these classes. Most hospitals provide these classes free of cost, and my class gave me a free trauma kit with tournequit, gauze, trauma scissors, and blood clot. Worth it, take it, you may save yourself or one you love.
