    After white Kc7 black could have played Nxd6

    • @chessrecap9901
      @chessrecap9901 Месяц назад

      Then the match will end more quickly with a mate in one instead of a mate in two, with knight to b6 checkmating the black king, as all of its escape squares are blocked by the white king.

    • @chessrecap9901

      Then he can prolong the game for a few more moves, but he won't escape the mating net, as we will keep our rook on the third rank, capturing the knight the moment it moves. The king will be stuck on the h1 and h2 squares.

    • @chessrecap9901
      @chessrecap9901 Месяц назад

      Yes, Magnus was under time pressure. At the time of the rook to c2 mistake, he had half the time of MVL on the clock: 4 minutes compared to MVL's 8

  • @peaou
    @peaou Месяц назад

    Knowing how much time they had would justify such a blunder, to alow your opponent to fork your rooks like that.. what a miss on a first time!

    • @chessrecap9901
      @chessrecap9901 Месяц назад

      I agree with you; Giri had 1:58, and Firouzja had 1:11 at the time of the blunder. Firouzja is known for his bullet-speed chess, so credit can't be taken away from Giri for this win.

    Why would black move his queen to c5? Makes no sense

    • @chessrecap9901
      @chessrecap9901 Месяц назад

      Yes, bro, there are many choices for Black to play from that position. Black can keep checking the White king with moves like a3, b2, or d2, but Black is still in zugzwang and remains under a mating net. That was the point of the video: no moves improve the position; it’s not a forced mate.

    • @chessrecap9901
      @chessrecap9901 Месяц назад

    Pretty sure black can stop this by moving rook to e8 over queen to b6

    • @chessrecap9901
      @chessrecap9901 Месяц назад

      Rook to e8 won't work, because there is a forced mate in two moves after Black's rook moves to e8. White will continue with g4+, and the only move for the Black king is f6. Then, White's rook on e4 will move to e6, delivering checkmate. Thank you for trying out the puzzle; I appreciate your effort!

  • @udbhavrajput5985
    @udbhavrajput5985 Месяц назад

    The reason you have to take the pawn is to force the black to move the queen. There are no checks and wherever queen goes it follows with mate. Pushing the b pawn doesnt work either, figure that out yourself

    • @chessrecap9901
      @chessrecap9901 Месяц назад

      I believe I explained the same thing in the video. The Black king is in a zugzwang position, and after White plays queen to d3, checkmate is incoming. Anyway, thanks for trying out the puzzle!

    • @chessrecap9901
      @chessrecap9901 Месяц назад

      Alireza's move was strategic to exploit time pressure, keeping the game alive. However, with more time, Magnus could have found a winning sequence. It highlights the balance between material and managing the clock in high-stakes matches!

      @itsnotaryanshu Месяц назад

      @@chessrecap9901Magnus was very low on time and Alireza knew that if he took the queen the game will end in a draw so he let Magnus’s time ran out and since Alireza has a knight and Alireza can theoretically checkmate Magnus, he won the game instead of a draw.
